The Jasmine Revolution Tunisian Media Freedom Road in Five Years

    No full text
The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of the Tunisian media freedom road since the 2010 revolution and contrasting it with the past situation. Five years have so far passed since the Jasmine Revolution that sparked the tsunami called the Arab Spring. Tunisian media have been playing a key role in the country's transition to democracy and in shaping Tunisia's image on the national stage and international arena. We hypothesize that in these five years, the Tunisian media scene has witnessed an unprecedented mutation, from 'Not Free' to 'Free,' media in Tunisia are trying to find their path to freedom. The analysis considers secondary qualitative data collected from international organizations and research centers reports

Creating Equity for Clients Seeking Safety: Substance Abuse in Domestic Violence Programs

    No full text
Intimate partner violence (IPV) and substance abuse (SA) are issues that affect all segments of society. Research supports that IPV and SA often co-occur in domestic violence (DV) survivors, yet DV programs lack the resources to adequately address both issues. While agency intake forms often assess for substance use, there is little follow-up during advocacy and counseling services. Many shelters will reject or discharge clients who are actively using. In order to better serve DV survivors, agency staff could be trained in short assessment and brief interventions for substance use/abuse. The literature supports that brief interventions are successful in harm reduction and increase the likelihood that individuals will seek treatment. Therefore, this research proposes that in order to deliver continuity of care for all DV survivors, programs should provide additional training of staff in evidence-based practices

Marklogic DB - An only Enterprise NoSQL Database

    No full text
With advancement in the technology data is growing at a staggering rate, and storage is declining more data come in online. Therefore, for handling those data database came into action and the relational era of technology is not designed to solve problems in a sufficient manner for unstructured data. NoSQL database come to handle such data. NoSQL means non-SQL or non-relational databases which provides mechanism to store and retrieve the data other than relational databases. MarkLogic DB is one of the Enterprise NoSQL database that supports multiple-model database design. It is optimized for structured and unstructured data that allows to store, manage, query and search across JSON, XML, RDF (Triplestore), and can handle data with schema free and leads to faster time-to-results by providing handling of different types of data. It provides ACID Transactions using MVCC (multi-version concurrency control). One of the important key feature of MarkLogic is its Bitemporal behaviour by providing data at every point in time. Due to its shared-nothing architecture it is highly available and easily and massively scalable with no single point of failure making structured data integration easier. It also has incremental backup means to only backup the updated data. Marklogic provides Hadoop integration and Hadoop is designed to store large amount of data in Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and works better with the transactional applications and many other future advancement applications which can be thought for like Sample Stalker etc

    Mortgage Backed Securities

    No full text
The economic crash with its bailouts and bankruptcies, led to hundreds of thousands losing their jobs and homes. Time, tax cuts and other economic stimulus programs along with the experiment the Federal Reserve was trying to implement of a zero interest rate policy and bond-buying program has led to small increments of progress of economic recovery. 2008 was one of the worst times for mortgage backed securities because it was being compared to stocks as how risky they were if not more riskier than stocks. It became a domino effect all throughout the U.S. with more and more people defaulting on their loans. The U.S. became the land of foreclosures. With all of the foreclosures happening and nobody being able to buy these homes it was a nightmare for investors in these pools of mortgages

The Customer Relationship Management Paradox: Five Steps to Create a Fairer Organization

    No full text
Purpose: Favoritism of customers reveals great benefits, as focusing on the most profitable customers ensures better use of marketing resources. Scholars suggest, however, that such favoritism imposes a danger to customer management, potentially creating perceptions of discrimination. We explore the fairness of differential customer management practices and propose a framework contributing to fairer marketing practices with implications for social businesses. Approach: We critically review the literatures on perceptions of fairness and evaluate the customer relationship management (CRM) paradox. Findings: Within our framework, we identify four stages towards fairer customer management practices: (1) generating awareness and diagnosing problems, (2) managing targeted and non-targeted customers, (3) creating emphasis on positive inferences and goodwill, and (4) promoting morality in marketing. Implications: This framework assists firms in incorporating fairness issues in their marketing schemes, improving the well being of both customers and society alike. With increased fairness, all stakeholders will benefit, and it encourages more 'compassionate management.' Contribution: This paper critically reviews related literatures to suggest best practices for overcoming these dangers in a framework involving four phases, and presents an action program comprised of five steps for practitioners to practice fairer customer management

Student-Identified Requirements for Persistence in a Limited Residency Ph.D. Program

    No full text
The attrition rate for students in traditional doctoral programs hovers around 50%, while students in limited-residency and online programs tend to leave programs at rates 10% to 20% higher. Other than a student’s intrinsic motivation, prior research with the population studied in this program has not uncovered factors that may be predictive of attrition. The goal of this study was to better understand this phenomenon from the perspective of this population. Analysis from interviews with graduates of such a program yielded a set of best practices, focused primarily on assisting students as they prepared for their dissertation. The development and application of policies, procedures and tools based on results of this research may help administrators and faculty address the additional 10% to 20% they have historically experienced

    Tourism Forecasting

This paper is about the estimation of tourism demand which is a foundation of all tourism-related business decisions ultimately rest. Here forecasting of tourism for goa for goa state. The state tourism is the key success for largely business. The tourism forecasting developmental methods are of two categories they are quantitative and the qualitative methods. The quantitative forecasting is of 3 sub categories they are non casual time series model, time series model and artificial intelligent techniques. A time series model explains a variable with regard to it's own past and a random disturbance term. for the forecasting of the tourism data mining algorithms like linear regression is used and the multiplicative linear regression is also used it is widely used in the modeling and statistics. Here we forecast for the next 12 months tourism by using the past data. Here the data is available in the two forms they are of foreign tourists visiting goa and the domestic tourists visiting goa every month. Because of the tourism forecasting it uses for not only government but also other sectors like hotels, tourism providers etc

A Hierarchical framework of Cloud Computing using Heart beat as Biometric

    No full text
Cloud computing is the technique which is mainly used to create a cloud space. These cloud spaces that are created by the user, can store files and also can upload and download information. So in this paper we will be mainly discussing about the security purpose that we are going to use in this project. Till now we have used the biometric security methods like face recognition, finger print and so on. But in this project what we will be discussing about it is a combination of two or more biometrics. We fuse ECG and Palm print for achieving the multi modal system. Moreover we take the heartbeat of the human being as the main biometric. So here we will be also discussing about few algorithms and methods in this topic. The two signals that we consider are Electrocardiogram and Phonocardiogram. When these two signals combine together we will be able to run the multimodal system. The ECG purpose is to record the signal frequency of the heart and store them in the database. This is done because for the user authentication purpose. The usage of PCG is to record the sound made by the heart, that is nothing but the sound of the heartbeat. There are also few complications in this model, because it is not that easy to show as a real time model. All the templates has to be stored in the database, only then the user will be able to authenticate. Considering in all this the basic challenge is the time dependency, this is because the authentication has to be done in a timely manner
