Designing the University Competitiveness Management System: Functions, Levels, Objects
The purpose of the current study was to investigate the problem of systemic university competitiveness management in order to propose a vision of the structure of the university competitiveness management system (UCMS), its levels, functions, and management objects based on the implementation of the constructive competition theory. The basic research methods included the following: content analysis, analysis of the modern concepts of university competitiveness management. The constructive theory of competition was used as the basic methodology of the research. Based on certain factors affecting competitiveness, the competitiveness of university (Cu) coefficient was calculated. At the intersection of four management functions (planning, organization, motivation, and control) at three levels of competitive behavior (strategic, tactical, situational) and three spheres of system influence (resource usage, optimizing actions, achieving results), 36 special functions of competitiveness management have been identified. At the same time, it was unveiled that the implementation of the UCMS in the overall university management structure is accompanied by organizational changes. In view of this, the success of the operating activities of the university as a higher education institution should be ensured by monitoring competition in the market and implementation of the competitiveness management program developed precisely for this institution. The study revealed that the competitiveness of the university increased after the introduction of the UCMS, the coefficient of competitiveness (Cu> 1). Implementation of the proposed competitiveness management system can significantly increase planning flexibility, adaptability and contribute to an increase in the world ranking of universities in developing countries
Covid-19 Effect on the Assessment of the Use of Smartphone Apps in STEM Learning
The purpose of the study is to analyze the impact of the Covid-changed learning environment on the assessment of mobile applications for learning STEM disciplines. The study presents the results of the surveys of teachers (n = 38, age 32-52) and students (n = 188, age 19-21) of Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University and Kazan Federal University. The participants evaluated the effectiveness of mobile applications designed to study STEM disciplines. A thorough analysis of three apps dedicated to STEM learning and nine auxiliary niche apps allowed revealing their pros and cons, in particular, expanded student opportunities, the ability to study while staying in the Russian Federation, the availability of a Russian-language version, and the ability to make an appointment (for teachers or students). Due to the increased use of mobile devices by young people, the time frame for completing lessons and motivation to accomplish assignments (tasks related to engineering, solving problems in a notebook, taking notes, completing assignments on the device and in the notebook) were also defined as important. The analysis of mobile apps in the context of distance and blended learning unveiled that, in addition to the well-known criteria, the assessment of such learning means should also make allowance for the possibility to complete tasks outside the digital space, screen time reduction capacity, and accessibility for users. Learning based on a mobile application must be planned to encourage student thinking, the desire to obtain good results, and involvement in project activity
Information System for Learning Control in Teaching Russian Sign Language: Process and Data Modeling
The article describes project of the information system to control the teaching of Russian sign language. The aim of the conducted study is to consolidate existing algorithms and software tools to ensure the integrity, and objectivity in the implementation of professional training of specialists in the field of Russian sign language. The authors conducted a study of specialized sources in order to highlight the features of the subject area for the implementation of design processes. With the employment of structural analysis methods, a formal data model is obtained that describes the concept of a database that provides data storage and processing necessary for the full-scale operation of the information system. Using a combination of methods of structural analysis and object-oriented design, a model of the process of user interaction with the designed information system is obtained. The advantage of such a model is the selection of data objects necessary for the implementation of each stage of the process, as well as the objects obtained and available after their execution. All users of the system are classified according to the principle of data availability. The results obtained at the project stage in the future are the basis for the development of the corresponding software product
Artificial Intelligence Research During COVID-19 Pandemic: Contributed to Future Education
Besides being able to cause death, it turns out that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused problems in various sectors, including education, health, and Social Life. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic also has an impact on the field of research, including the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which has become an interesting issue in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Based on Scopus data (search by article title, abstract, and keywords), it shows that there are 381,691 documents. Results of Bibliometric through VOSViewer found some parameters or interrelationships among variables to capture the trend and novelty of researching on AI During COVID-19 Pandemic, such as researching on AI During COVID-19 Pandemic and technology, detection, patient, diagnosis, performance, radiologist, feature, education, and image. Implication research in general evidence, (1) AI researchers have bright career opportunities in the present and the future. This is evident from the condition of the central role of AI in all lines of human life, (2) The trend of AI research is also classified as having a very large contribution to have entered various fields during the COVID-19 pandemic. (3) Including the prevention of COVID-19 transmission with AI, various tools and media have emerged in the medical world that provides many benefits. (4) AI needs more exploration in education field research. In the last five years, AI has made a major contribution advancing the field of education
Situational Interest and Engagement of Public Junior High School Science Students in Modular Distance Learning
Due to the ongoing global health crisis, the Philippine Basic Education opted to implement modular distance learning (MDL) as an alternative mode of learning for the current school year. This modality depends highly on the use of self-learning modules (SLMs) with the goal of bringing about learning and continuing students’ education amidst the pandemic. The present study employed mixed methods research to describe and examine the relationship between situational interest and engagement (behavioral, emotional, and cognitive) of public junior high school science students in modular distance learning. Participants in the online survey were 380 students from eight different public secondary schools while the interviews involved 19 junior high school students who were determined based on their initial responses on the survey. Results revealed the significant correlation between situational interest and the three dimensions of engagement (behavioral, emotional, and cognitive). Emotional engagement obtained the lowest mean among the engagement dimensions while novelty attained the lowest mean score among the situational interest dimensions. Results showed that although most students in the current study are interested and engaged in MDL, the format and content presentation of the SLMs do not always necessarily interest and engage students into learning
School-community Collaboration in Inquiry-based Learning to Strengthen Religious Character and Improve Learning Outcome of Students
Character education and student, achievement are two main focuses of education in Indonesia in recent years that must be improved. The educators are given the mandate to innovate the learning strategy following the government policy to overcome these problems. This study aims to strengthen the religious character and improve the learning outcome of students through learning innovation that integrated the religious values into learning material that was carried out by involving the school-community collaboration in biology class. This is quasiexperimental research of pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design that involves 240 participants of four public high schools in Bengkulu Province, Indonesia. The students' religious character and learning outcome were measured using questionnaires and essay tests, respectively. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using the ANCOVA test. The results showed that there was no interaction between the pretest data as a covariate with learning strategies, both on religious character data and student learning outcome. Both religious character and student learning outcomes in the experimental group were significantly higher than in the control group. The results revealed that school-community collaboration in applying inquiry-based learning that integrated religious values can be used as a strategy to strengthen students' religious character as well as improve learning outcomes
Preschool Educators’ preparation on Child Assessment based on Relevant Instruments according to Official Documents
This paper examines the preparation of educators for their planned and carried forms of assessment in the classroom with children aged 5-6 years in preschool institutions and preparatory classes. Moreover, the paper arguments the cooperation that educators maintain with parents to achieve the development of children and to convey information about their progress or stagnation. The purpose of this study is to understand whether educators are prepared to conduct assessment based on the needs and interests of children through various evaluation instruments, systematic monitoring and application of different methods during daily activities. The results of the study are based on the quantitative method - survey with educators (N = 150 questionnaires) and the qualitative method, 5 observations of evaluation instruments by 20 educators from different kindergartens, 6 individual interviews with educators and 2 interviews with headmasters. The results depict the views and preparation of educators in the field of early childhood assessment, as well as their approach on how to observe children and inform parents about their children's progress and stagnation
Preferred Leadership Styles of Physical Education Teachers and Relationship with Athletes’ Satisfaction
Although the leadership styles of physical education teachers are important for increasing athlete satisfaction, choosing the most appropriate leadership styles is difficult for physical education teachers owing to the numerous leadership styles suggested by scholars and researchers. Therefore, this study attempts to answer the following questions: 1) What are the leadership styles of physical education teachers preferred by athletes? 2) Can the leadership styles of physical education teachers predict athlete satisfaction? A total of 136 athletes from 12 schools in Iraq are selected randomly, and the Revised Leadership Scale for Sport and Athlete Satisfaction Questionnaire are used to measure the leadership styles of physical education teachers and athlete satisfaction, respectively. The data are analysed using SmatPLS 3.0, and results show that the democratic behaviour and training and instruction behaviour leadership styles positively affect athlete satisfaction, whereas the autocratic behaviour leadership style negatively affects athlete satisfaction. This study contributes to the expansion of theories on the leadership styles of physical education teachers in the context of the education sector in Iraq. To increase athlete satisfaction, this study recommends physical education teachers to employ the training and instruction behaviour and democratic behaviour leadership styles and refrain from using the autocratic behaviour leadership style
Effect of Model-Eliciting Activities using Cloud Technology on the Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability of Undergraduate Students
Problem-solving is considered as an important skill for learning Mathematics. Integration of cloud technology into Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) has been considered as an instructional approach to study students’ mathematical problemsolving abilities. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the suitability of the MEAs using cloud technology, and assess the mathematical problem-solving ability of undergraduate students learning the proposed model compared with the criteria of 50%. The participants were 50 undergraduate students who were enrolled on Numerical Analysis courses, selected by using a purposive sampling technique. We conducted quasi-experiments using a one-group design to determine the impact of the model on students and assessed whether the students had exceeded the criterion for mathematical problem-solving ability. The research instruments were instructional plans of the MEAs using cloud technology, a suitability assessment form, and a mathematical problem-solving test. The data were analysed quantitatively using descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation, and a t-test. The findings revealed that 5 experts evaluated the model as being “most suitable”, and that the mathematical problem-solving ability of the undergraduate students exceeded the criterion of 50% at a .05 level of statistical significance. The students displayed satisfactory competence in implementing key mathematical concepts to solve problems
Networked-based Inquiry: An Effective Physics Learning in the New Normal COVID-19 Era in Indonesia
This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of Networked-based Inquiry model on 21st -Century Skills and learning outcomes of physics students in senior high school. This research was a quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group and 2x3 factorial design. One hundred twenty students participated in this research. Research instruments were 21st -Century Skills assessment sheets and learning outcomes test items. Descriptive statistics and two-way ANOVA tests with a significance level of 5% were used to analyze the research data. The average level of students’ 21st -Century Skills at the end of the experimental term in the experimental group was 85 and the average N-Gain scores was 0.64. Two-way ANOVA test results showed that the experimental group and the control group had a significant difference in 21st -Century Skills level (p=0.000). There was no significant difference in the level of 21st -Century Skills of students in each experiment group (p=0.438). There was no interaction between Networked-based Inquiry variable and school category variable in determining the level of 21st - Century Skills (p=0.774). Learning outcomes test result showed the average scores of cognitive competence in the experimental group was 79.00 and percentages of completeness was 93%. The findings conclude that the model is effective in improving 21st -Century Skills and learning outcomes and can be used as a solution in the New Normal COVID-19 era
