Development and Validation of Scale for Assessment of Followership among School Teachers
The teaching profession in the researcher's context is becoming a machine-like job because teachers’ followership i.e. competence, commitment, courage, and selfmanagement, is least prioritized, and more focus is given only on their regularity and punctuality. Effective followership is desired among the teachers for the achievement of educational goals but ignored and resultantly, there is no scale on teachers’ followership. Moreover, the followership measures particularly for teachers in the research literature are rare and the available measures lack recommended psychometric evidence. Therefore, the effort to develop a followership scale for teachers (FST) has been made. Through literature review, 55 items were constructed. Five items were discarded from the item pool having poor Content Validity Ratio i.e. below 0.42 that is estimated through the judgment of 14 experts. The items were administered using google form in the what's app groups of teachers and 346 school teachers working in high schools have responded. Exploratory factor analysis using varimax rotation and confirmatory factor analysis on AMOS-21 was performed for construct validation of the scale. The scale was finalized containing 16 items with no item representing less than 0.40 load. Subscales of followership indicate moderate correlation and the overall Cronbach alpha of the scale was estimated at 0.88. Finally, FST includes four subscales i.e. (a) Competence, (b) Commitment, (c) Courage, and (d) Self-management. The scale containing recommended psychometric properties is available for use
In-depth Examination of Attitudes towards Distance Education in Students Attending a Special Education Preparation Program
Students’ attitudes towards Distance Education (DE) could easily affect a relative program’s success, as well as participants’ satisfaction. This is why a DE provider should examine future or current participants’ attitudes. The aim of the present study was to examine the attitudes towards DE in the context of an online program on the field of special education. Six hundred and ninety-one participants answered a questionnaire of 22 items and 3 subscales concerning attitudes. The results revealed slightly positive attitudes (as a whole) towards DE, slightly positive attitudes as far as the affective component was concerned, definitely positive attitudes regarding their beliefs about DE and their intention to participate in a DE program, and negative attitudes towards DE when it was compared to the traditional model. Moreover, the analysis revealed no possible impact of age and gender on participants’ attitudes. Findings of the present study could be very useful in planning DE programs for special education teachers/ trainees
Self-Efficacy and Students’ Mathematics Learning Ability in Indonesia: A Meta Analysis Study
Improving self-efficacy in the learning process of Mathematics is very important as the key to success in learning Mathematics. Self-efficacy in learning mathematics is a belief in one's ability to solve mathematical problems. Many studies have been conducted on the relationship between self-efficacy and students’ mathematics learning ability in Indonesia. However, there are different representations or conclusions regarding the results of this study. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship of self-efficacy to students' mathematics learning ability in Indonesia using a meta-analysis approach. This study analyzed 40 research publications in national and international journals that were screened with certain eligibility criteria. The effect size in this study was determined by an acceptable 95% confidence level. To support the accuracy of the calculations used JASP software. The results of the study found that the effect size value generated by using the random-effect model estimation in the research analyzed was (M* = 0.65) with the lower limit of the confidence interval (LLM* = 0.51) and the upper limit of the confidence interval (ULM* = 0.80). This correlation measure is included in the strong category. These findings indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy and students' mathematics learning ability in Indonesia. This means that the higher the self-efficacy, the higher the mathematical ability, and the lower the self-efficacy, the lower the mathematical ability. These findings will provide a solid theoretical foundation to improve students' mathematical achievement in the future
Leadership Characteristics for Muslim School Leaders in a Multicultural Context in Thailand
This mixed method study examines the leadership characteristics of Muslim school leaders in a multicultural context and studied the confirmatory factor analysis of leadership characteristics among Muslim school leaders. Using sequential explanatory approach, this research is divided in two phases. The first phase was a qualitative research and gathered data from semi-structured in-depth interviews and group discussions with 15 key informants, including administrators, teachers and parent representatives from a model Muslim school in a multicultural context in Thailand. The combined-level triangulation technique method was used to validate the data and the qualitative data was analyzed through content analysis. The second phase was a quantitative research that conducted secondary confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) through a questionnaire created the results from phase one. One hundred and sixty questionnaires were retrieved from school administrators, teachers and parents at four Muslim schools in a multicultural context in Thailand. The results of this study found that there were five leadership characteristics for Muslim school leaders in a multicultural context, including gentleness, justice, flexibility, tolerance, and interpersonal relationships. The five characteristics of Muslim school leaders in a multicultural context were in harmony with the empirical data with factor loading scores between .83-.96 and a factor loading matrix between .68-.86. The results demonstrated that the item corresponded with the empirical data and the five factors of leadership characteristics can be utilized for training school leaders in a multicultural context in Thailand
An Analysis of the Distribution Map of Physical Education Learning Motivation through Rasch Modeling in Elementary School
The distribution map of physical education learning motivation could provide information about the electability of motivational items (questionnaires) distributed to several elementary school students. In more detail, this study would analyze the grouping of the electability level of physical education learning motivation items in elementary schools through a combination of standard deviation (SD) values and logit mean scores. Twenty-one students aged 13-14 years participated in this study by filling out a motivation to learn physical education questionnaire. The data analysis technique was performed through Rasch modeling assisted by the Winsteps 3.75 application. The results indicated that there were variations in the level of electability of physical education learning motivation items. The grouping was based on several item categories, including extremely difficult to get elected item category with a logit value greater than + 1SD; difficult to get elected item category with a value of 0.0 logit +1 SD; easy to get elected item category with a value of 0.0 logit -1 SD; and extremely easy to get elected item category with a value smaller than –SD. An ideal set of motivation items could identify the various motivations of students with diverse levels of motivation
Effectiveness of Using the IMPROVE Program on the Achievements of Preliminary Students
The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the seven-stop IMPROVE program (Introducing new concepts, Metacognitive questioning, Practicing, Reviewing and reducing difficulties, Obtaining mastery, Verification, and Enrichment) on the achievement of preliminary students at Taif University, Saudi Arabia, at the first three levels of the Bloom's taxonomy (Knowledge, Comprehension, Application). The researcher used the experimental design to achieve the objective of the study. In order to achieve the purpose of the study, the sample was chosen in a deliberate manner from groups that were taught using cooperative learning in mathematics classes. The experimental group (32 students) who studied using the IMPROVE program was compared with the second group (32 students) who were taught in the traditional lecture style. The results of the study showed the effectiveness of using the IMPROVE program in mathematics teaching at the knowledge, comprehension and application levels. This study recommends the use of this metacognitive strategy in mathematics teaching for other stages of education. It also recommends expanding awareness in educational institutions of the concept of metacognition and its importance in improving the learners’ awareness to deal with mathematics problems
The Study on Awareness, Ability and Policy Suggestions to Meet Job Requirements of the Digital Transformation
The discourse that revolves around the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Vietnam has witnessed participation from policy makers, business circles, and academics. This study sought to explore the future of Vietnamese workforce’s awareness and competencies in meeting labour market needs in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. To capture these awareness and competencies, the study used the mixed method. Questionnaires were initially conducted with 800 third- and fourth-year students who were studying in four fields: social sciences and humanities, science and technology, natural sciences, and finance and banking in public and private universities in Ho Chi Minh City. Thirty lecturers and managers from private and state-owned enterprises were then invited to participate in interviews to gain a multidimensional perspective. Analyses showed the large proportion of students had heard of the Fourth Industrial Revolution primarily from the media, which led to a difference in both awareness and behaviour towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The survey students had a positive outlook on employment trends, but felt doubtful and diffident about job-seeking after graduation. From a multidimensional perspective, the study also pointed out obsolete knowledge, traditional teaching, and the shortage of connection between universities and enterprises. The present study provided significant implications for higher educational institutions in the development of future training programmes to prepare the future workforce for the digital economy
Improving the Efficiency of Mathematics Education through the Development of a Stochastic Worldview of Students
This research is about developing stochastic worldview formation among high school students (grades 10 and 11) based on integrating scientific approaches, namely, information and technology, interdisciplinary, system, and activity approaches. Developing the structural components of a stochastic worldview, such as motivation–value relations, intuitive–figurative perception, and rational–logic acceptance, determines the most effective way for students in grades 10 and 11 to form a worldview when teaching stochastics. The research site was School Gymnasium No. 11 in Yelets, located in the Lipetsk region. Tests, questionnaires, and documentation were used as data collection methods. The methodology of data analysis included descriptive statistics. According to Fisher's angular transformation criterion (φ), the validation of the experimental data confirmed the research efficiency. This study showed that the proposed tool improves students' motivation, value, and worldview constructs, guiding them to understand the stochastic component of the world around them. The results complement the methodological and methodical features of math education, which aims to develop helpful worldview qualities of students. These results can be beneficial for methodical science since, with their help, it specifies the known approaches, ideas, methodological means in mathematics education, and upbringing of high school students
Online Career Intelligence Test: Self-Assessment for Students’ Career and Abilities
Career intelligence is of major importance for students to understand their aptitudes, interests, and abilities. The aims of this quantitative research are 1) to develop an Online Career Intelligence Test (OCIT) for Thai high school students, and 2) to confirm factor analysis of the test. Multistage random sampling was performed on a sample of 2,000 high school students from 6 regions of Thailand. The instrument was an online individual test (OCIT) to identify students’ career abilities, based on several different Theories integrated into a concept with a Thai context namely Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence Theory and Holland’s Theory, and Career Interest. The data was analysed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), means (M), and standard deviation (S.D.). The results were: 1) This test was composed of 9 factors; verbal-linguistic Intelligence, logical and mathematical intelligence, spatial and visual intelligence, bodily or kinesthetic intelligence, musical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, natural intelligence, and existential intelligence, totaling 90-items. 2) The findings of CFA showed that nine components of the OCIT corresponded significantly with empirical data by CFA ( 2= 48.89, df=17, 2 /df=2.87, RMSEA=.031, RMR=.00, GFI=.99, AGFI=.99). The OCIT can be used to assess students both effectively and conveniently
