    No full text
Professional Learning Community (PLC) is embedded in one of the Malaysian educational policies with the aim of improving teachers’ effectiveness. However, the robust empirical evidence upon this matter is scarce, especially in terms of the relationship between school culture and PLC. Therefore, a correlational design study conducted to examine the relationships between the school culture dimensions (Collaboration, Collegiality, Emphasis on Learning, Professional Value, Sharing Planning, Transformational Leadership) and PLC. A randomized controlled trial cluster involving 612 teachers has been conducted. The Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS version 3 was applied to analyze the data. The result from SEM path analysis shows that only three constructs have significant influences on PLC, which are Professional Value (β:0.045); Sharing Planning (β:0.071), and Transformational Leadership (β:0.040). This study has gone some way towards enhancing the understanding of the importance of school culture in promoting teachers’ professional development through PLC

    No full text
Actively open-minded thinking (AOT) is a crucial aspect in the education of adolescents; however, it has been insufficiently researched in the Spanish context. The purpose of this study is to analyse AOT and its relationship to critical thinking skills and personality. The participants in this research comprise 877 Spanish secondary school students. The study design is multidisciplinary, correlational and predictive. The findings show that personality traits, especially honesty, empathy and solidarity, and critical thinking skills, the development of new knowledge, analytical skills, and not learning by memory, are directly related to AOT. Actively open-minded thinking is the synapse of critical thinking because it allows for the achievement of objectives, reflection on and/or consideration of alternatives before making decisions. It is concluded that AOT is significantly related to the projection and value of critical thinking skills. Personality traits as well as identified competences can be used to integrate specific skills of both kinds of thinking into the educational curriculum

This research aims to reveal the effectiveness of the use of Kofie GeBoL media in improving (1) vector representation ability and (2) critical thinking ability in physics instruction. It is a descriptive quantitative study with the quasi-experiment design. It was conducted in two stages: empirical try out and implementation of Kofie GeboL to see the media effectiveness. It was conducted in four high schools in Sleman Regency, including State Senior High School (SSHS) 1 Mlati with 64 students, SSHS 1 Ngaglik with 96 students, SSHS 1 Ngemplak with 56 students, and SHS Bina Umat with 46 students on the learning materials of Parabolic Movement in October, Semester 1 of the academic year 2019/2020. The research instrument is a vector representation and critical thinking ability test which is valid and dan reliable according to the empirical test. The data analysis used the QUEST application to see the validity and reliability of the test items and the MANOVA test to see the media effectiveness. The research finding shows that the Kofie GeBoL is effective in improving students’ vector representation and critical thinking abilities with the Cohen’s value in each variable being 0.46 and 0.57 interpreted as Large Effect Size. This can also be seen in the N-gain scores of vector representation and critical thinking abilities of 0.7 and 0.8 respectively, which are in a high category. So similar research can be done for other physics theory to improve students’ scientific abilities

Guided by a framework promoted by Zimmerman (2000) and empirical evidence, this research examined the relationship between achievement goals involving mastery goal and performance goal and PERMA (positive emotion, engagement, relationship, meaning and accomplishment) that might affect lifelong learning. A total of 274 prospective mathematics teachers (93.8% female; 6.2% male, with age range from 18 to 22 years old) in Indonesia participated in this research. A relational survey model was taken to test and measure the degree of relationship among achievement goals, PERMA and life-long learning. Exploratory, confirmatory factor analysis and descriptive statistics were applied in this research. The direct path coefficient of mastery goal and performance goal to lifelong learning was significant. The findings of bootstrapping for the indirect effect test revealed that there was no indirect effect of PERMA for mastery goal and lifelong learning. In addition, a partial indirect effect of PERMA for performance goal on lifelong learning was observed

The COVID-19 pandemic gives a big impact on various aspects of human life, including higher education institutions. Institut Agama Islam Negeri (State Institute for Islamic Studies) Surakarta (IAIN Surakarta) as one of the Islamic higher education institutions in Indonesia has developed online learning management using Moodle platform. This study tries to measure the level of implementation of learning management in three dimensions of Moodle-based online learning; planning of learning, implementation of learning and evaluation. This study used a quantitative approach with a sample of 718 students from five faculties based on the descriptive analysis, report showed that planning of learning was in the high category with an average of 4.06 (in scale 5), the implementation of learning was in the medium category with an average of 3.35 and evaluation of learning was also in the medium category with an average of 3.14. It meant that it was necessary to optimize the implementation and evaluation of learning. While the results of CFA showed that the three manifest variables were below 0.4, namely the use of Zoom, Google Meet or others (outside Moodle) for synchronous (λ = 0.01, mean = 3.86), the use of Google Classroom, WhatsApp or others for asynchronous (λ = 0.04, mean = 4.31), and the examination in the form of assignments (λ = 0.11, mean = 3.86). So, it can be concluded that the use of e-learning based Moodle has less optimal in implementation and evaluation of learning. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the quality of applications, supporting facilities and user capabilities

    Get PDF
Today, hundreds of studies on the technique known as Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) have been discovered. Numerous trials yielding contradicting results. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to ascertain the overall effect of RME and to examine the moderator variables in order to explore the consequences. The ERIC database, Sage publications, Springer publications, semantic scholars, and Google scholars were used to identify empirical data. The study examined 54 effect sizes from 38 individual studies conducted in the past two decades, involving 6140 participants. The estimation procedure was according to the random effects model, and statistical calculations were performed using the CMA program. According to the research findings, the study's overall effect size was 0.97. This suggests that implementing RME has a significant favourable influence on pupils' mathematical abilities. Moderator variables analysis shows that RME implementation would be more efficient when considering sample size, intervention length, learning mix, and education level. This finding contributes to the future implementation of RME to consider those variables that are shown to moderate the studies' effect sizes. Finally, comparisons of RME across countries and limitations of the study are discussed, providing vital information as a starting point for later studies and development of RME
