In the case of (∞, 1)-categories, the homotopy coherent nerve serves as a right Quillen equivalence between
the models of simplicially enriched categories and of quasi-categories. This paper constructs a homotopy
coherent nerve for (∞, n)-categories. The synopsis of the paper goes as follows.
§1 is concerned with preliminaries and background. §1.1 recalls the relevant model structure for
(∞, n− 1)-categories, while §1.2 recalls the model structure for categories enriched over (∞, n− 1)-
categories. The model structure for Segal categories in (∞, n− 1)-categories and the diagonal model
structure are reviewed, respectively, in §1.3 and §1.5. §1.4 recalls the Quillen equivalence between
models of (∞, n)-categories given by the strict nerve of categories over (∞, n− 1)-categories.
§2 is devoted to constructing the homotopy coherent categorification-nerve adjunction

and describing the left adjoint C. To this end, building on work by D. Dugger and D. I. Spivak
[Algebr. Geom. Topol. 11, No. 1, 225–261 (2011; Zbl 1213.55015); Algebr. Geom. Topol. 11, No.
1, 263–325 (2011; Zbl 1214.55013)], the authors introduce the notion of a 1-ordered simplicial set
in §2.1, studying its category of necklaces. §2.2 recalls the classical homotopy coherent categorifi-
cation ch by J.-M. Cordier and T. Porter [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 100, 65–90 (1986; Zbl
0603.55017)] as well as the description of the hom space in terms of necklaces. In §2.3 the authors
define the desired functor C using , while in §2.4 (resp. §2.5) they give explicit formulas for the hom
Θn−1-spaces (resp. the homotopy category) of the homotopy coherent categorification C.
§3 is concerned with explicit computations of the homotopy coherent categorificatio, collecting the
technical results out of necessity in §4.

§5 is concerned with projectively cofibrant results, providing the proofs for some technical facts that
have been used in the previous sections. §5.1 is concerned with combinatorics of necklaces. It is
shown in §5.2 and §5.3 that the two functors are projectively cofibrant.

利用の手引き  
国立大学法人筑波大学研究基盤総合センター工作部門は学内共同教育研究施設の一つで、実験機器・装置
の設計・製作やものづくりの相談、実習を通して本学の研究・教育の向上に寄与することを目的としている。
工作部門には、機械工作室、ガラス工作室、公開工作室がある。機械工作室では、汎用工作機械や数値制
御（NC）工作機械による直線形状や曲線形状の機械加工、TIG溶接や銀ろう付などの溶接作業等を行っている。
ガラス工作室では、手作業やガラス旋盤などによる加工や修理、精密切断機や卓上CNCフライス盤による切
断作業や溝加工などを行っている。公開工作室では、利用資格を持った教職員、学生が自由に機械加工をす
ることができる。
また、利用方法には委託利用と共同利用がある。委託利用は、実験機器・装置の製作を工作部門に委託す
る利用方法である。共同利用は、オープンファシリティーに登録されている機器（主に公開工作室の機器）
を自身で操作して加工する利用方法である。
工作部門の円滑な活動を確保し、できるだけ多くの人が公平に利用できるよう、ご協力をお願いしたい。

（１）オープンファシリティーの利用
オープンファシリティーとは、国立大学法人筑波大学が保有する研究設備の有効利用を図ることにより、
最先端の機器を容易に利用できるようにするシステムである。利用マニュアルは、研究基盤総合センターオー
プンファシリティー推進室のホームページにあり、以下のURLで参照できる。

（２）製作図面
工作部門ホームページ（http://www.kou-c.tsukuba.ac.jp/）の学内向けページに図面の描き方があり、参照
できる。
（３）委託利用のルール
利用者への公平性の確保、工作部門内にある機器の効率的運用の立場から、次のルールにより製作業務を
実施する。
①容易に市販品で代替えできるものや規格品に準ずるものの製作は、原則として受けない。
②原則的には、受付日時の順番で製作する。
③数量が非常に多いものについては、外注扱いとする場合がある。
④工作部門の機器で製作できないものは依頼者と相談の上、外注とする。

利用の手引き  
共同利用 
共同利用は、オープンファシリティーに登録されている機器（主に公開工作室の機器）を自身で操作して
加工する利用方法である。先ず、本学オープンファシリティーのシステムを利用してオープンファシリティー
登録機器の利用を申請する。共同利用は、利用者資格登録（1）をした教職員、学生が使用できる。その具体的
な手順を以下に示す。
（１）利用者資格登録
工作機械は不注意や操作ミスにより、利用者が大きな怪我を負うことがある。また、共同で利用する機器
を破損して多くの利用者に迷惑を及ぼす。このため、共同利用機器の使用を希望する利用者は、安全に正し
く使用することができるように、工作部門で実施する安全教育（半日）と操作実習（１日）を受講し、利用
資格を得て登録する必要がある。
（２）利用上の注意
①利用者は、オープンファシリティーのシステム上で利用希望時間を予約する。なお、予約時間をキャン
セルすることはできないので、工作部門担当者とよく相談する。
②機器の使用に当たっては、担当者の指示に従い、正しく操作するよう留意する。不明な点は、担当者に
必ず問い合わせる。中途半端な使い方は、機器損傷や人身事故を引き起こす原因となる。
③作業終了後は、機器・工具及び周囲の清掃を十分に行う。切り屑は分別して廃棄する。
④共同利用に適応しない行為が認められた場合には、利用者資格登録を抹消する。

Food-induced anaphylaxis (FIA) is a life-threatening immediate
and systemic hypersensitivity reaction caused mainly by an
IgE-mediated response to a food antigen. The systemic anaphylactic
reaction causes hypothermia and affects the functions of multiple
organs, including the gastrointestinal, cutaneous, respiratory, and
cardiovascular systems. Mast cells (MCs) and basophils express
the high-affinity receptor for IgE (FcεRI) that transmits activating
signals when an IgE-antigen complex cross-links FcεRI. After the
activation, MCs release pre-formed and newly synthesized media-
tors such as histamine and platelet-activating factor (PAF), which
correlate with the severity of FIA. The role of MCs in FIA has been
demonstrated using several MCs-deficient mouse models, and the
absence of MCs ameliorated systemic anaphylaxis. However, these
studies required the parenteral or repeated oral allergen challenge
to elicit systemic anaphylaxis.1 On the other hand, even though the
basophils activation test, an in vitro assay stimulating basophils
with a food allergen, helps diagnose food allergy, the role of human
basophils in the effector phase of FIA is less characterized than that
of MCs.2
To address whether human basophils are involved in the path-
ogenesis of FIA induced by a single oral challenge with an allergen,
we established an FIA model using NOD.Cg-prkdcscidil2rgtm1Sug/
ShiJic (NOG)-transgenic mice ubiquitously expressing human IL-3
and GM-CSF under the control of SRa promoter (NOG-EXL) (In-
Vivo Science, Tokyo, Japan). These mice were transplanted with hu-
man umbilical cord blood-derived CD34þ hematopoietic stem cells
(huNOG-EXL mice). In the huNOG-EXL mice, human CD34þ he-
matopoietic stem cells give rise to differentiation into human
myeloid cells, including MCs and basophils.3 A previous report
demonstrated that although passive IgE-mediated cutaneous and
systemic anaphylaxis can be established by the intravenous chal-
lenge of a monovalent allergen in huNOG-EXL mice, these mice
showed incomplete development of oral allergen-induced anaphy-
laxis.4 We hypothesized that challenging a monovalent antigen is
weak to stimulate FcεRI signaling in MCs or basophils required to
elicit oral allergen-induced anaphylaxis. Therefore, we orally chal-
lenged huNOG-EXL mice with 10 mg of TNP-conjugated OVA
(TNP9-OVA) or OVA after sensitization by i.p. injection of 50 mg of
anti-TNP mouse IgE (BD Bioscience, San Diego, CA). The proportion
of human CD45þ cells was comparable between OVA and TNP9-
OVA challenging groups (Fig. 1A). Human basophils and MCs
were reconstituted in the huNOG-EXL mice as reported previously3Peer review under responsibility of Japanese Society of Allergology.

licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).(Fig. 1A). Oral challenge with TNP9-OVA but not OVA exhibited im-
mediate and dramatic body temperature loss in the huNOG-EXL
mice, as measured by using a digital thermometer (BIO-TK8851,
BiosebLab, Vitrolles, France) (Fig. 1B). These results indicated that
sensitization with mouse IgE mAb followed by challenge with its
specific multivalent antigen is sufficient for developing oral
allergen-induced FIA in the huNOG-EXL mice.
Thenwe next transferred human basophils, instead of CD34þ he-
matopoietic stem cells, derived from healthy volunteers (n¼ 4) into
the NOG-EXL mice. After removing T and B cells from PBMCs by
negative selection using anti-human CD4, anti-human CD8, and
anti-human CD19 mAbs-conjugated MACS beads (Miltenyi Biotec,
Bergisch Gladbach, Germany) in vitro, cells were incubated with
2 mg/ml of an anti-TNP mouse IgE mAb and cultured at 37 C for
16 h. Flow cytometry analysis demonstrated that more than 80 %
of mouse IgE mAb-bound cells were CD203þ basophils, while the
otherswere CD11cþDCs (Fig. 2A).We removed free anti-TNPmouse
IgE mAb from the cultured cells by washing with PBS to avoid sensi-
tization of endogenous mouse MCs and basophils with the IgE in
mice and transferred these cells (around 3  107 cells) from each
donor into two NOG-EXL transgenic mice. Ninety minutes after the
transfer, mice were orally challenged with 10 mg of TNP9-OVA or
OVA. Oral challengewith TNP9-OVA induced a significant and imme-
diate body temperature loss in the NOG-EXLmice compared tomice
orally challengedwithOVA (Fig. 2B). These results indicated that IgE-
bound human basophils are sufficient for developing oral allergen-
induced anaphylaxis in NOG-EXL mice.
Although both MCs and basophils secret similar mediators such
as histamine and PAF upon FcεRI crosslinking, they exhibit distinct
mechanisms in mouse models of food allergy. The epicutaneous
food allergen-sensitization promotes TSLP-induced IL-4 secretion
by basophil that activates DC to express OX40L, leading to differen-
tiation of type-2 helper T cells.5 Basophil-derived IL-4 also induced
MCs migration or proliferation in the effector phase of food allergy,
which was crucial for diarrhea.6 Previously, we have demonstrated
that bothMCs and basophils express an inhibitory immunoreceptor
Allergin-1 in humans and mice.7 We showed that basophils defi-
cient in Allergin-1 promoted the development of FIA in a mouse
model, while Allergin-1-deficient MCs exacerbated diarrhea.7 We
also showed that CV-6209, a PAF receptor antagonist, completely
prevented basophils-dependent acute severe hypothermia in
mice.7 Basophils produce PAF in the anaphylaxismodel,8 and serum
PAF levels correlate with the severity of anaphylaxis,9 suggesting
that PAF may be a responsible mediator in human basophil-
induced FIA in the humanized mice. Taken together, these results
suggest the distinct role of MCs and basophils in the pathogenesis

Letter to the Editor / Allergology International 73 (2024) 345e347346Previously, NOD-SCID IL2Rgamma null (NSG) mice transferred
with PBMC from a peanut allergy patient and sensitized with an
intraperitoneal injection of peanut extract exhibited oral allergen-
induced anaphylaxis.10 However, reconstitution of NSG mice with
human PBMC containing T cells leads to xenograft reactions, result-
ing in organ infiltration with human immune cells. Therefore, we
reconstituted the NOG-EXL mice with human T cells and B cells-
removed PBMCs. One of the still remaining limitations of this study
was that we transferred IgE-sensitized T and B cell-removed humanPBMC but not purified basophils into the mice due to the limited
number of basophils in the human PBMCs. Unlike rodents, several
human blood cells, including monocytes/macrophages and DCs,
in addition to MCs and basophils, constitutively express FcεRI that
can bind human and murine IgE. Indeed, we detected IgE-bound
DCs in the transferred cells after culturewith IgE (Fig. 2A). However,
since IgE-bound human DCs may function as anti-inflammation
rather than pro-inflammation,11 our results showed that trans-
ferred IgE-bound human basophils, but not DCs, elicited the FIA

standing of the pathogenesis of FIA.

少子高齢化の顕在化の年に
運転手不足等のため、バス会社の廃業、路線縮小も話題になっています。
総務省による「我が国のこどもの数」によると、2023年４月１日時点での日本
の総人口に占める子ども（15歳未満）の割合は11.5パーセントと、49年連続で
低下しており、人口増加は望めない状況です。
内閣府による「令和４年版高齢社会白書」によると、2025年には75歳以上の
後期高齢者人口が2,180万人、65～74歳の前期高齢者人口が1,497万人に達し、
国民の約３人に１人が65歳以上、約５人に１人が75歳以上となっております。
2024年７月に某県の百貨店が閉店し、４件目の「百貨店なし県」となるそうです。
国土交通省の都市圏参考資料は、サービス施設の立地する存在確率というものが
あります。これは、一定人口規模で当該産業の事業所が存在する市町村数を一定人
口規模の全市町村数で除して100を乗じたものです。この存在確率によると、百
貨店の施設総数は全国に234箇所ありますが、存在確率が50％の人口規模は
275,000人、80％の人口規模は375,000人となっています。
同資料によると、映画館は施設総数673箇所、50％存在確率が175,000人、
80％存在確率が275,000人、スターバックスコーヒーは1,027箇所で175,000
－275,000人、喫茶店は77,002箇所で25,000人－75,000人、理療及び理療教
育に関連するものでは大学が680校で、175,000人－325,000人、有料老人ホー
ムが2,678箇所、525,000人－125,000人、訪問介護事業所が14,203箇所、
22,500人－27,500人と、サービス施設が存在するには一定規模の人口が必要な
ことがわかります。
同資料に視覚特別支援学校の存在確率について記載はありませんが、令和５年度
の「全国盲学校等調査」によれば、本科保健理療科の在籍生徒数が１人のみの学校
が17校、専攻科保健理療科の在籍生徒数が１人のみの学校が２校、専攻科理療科
の在籍生徒数が１人のみの学校が６校、理療関係学科の総生徒数が６人未満の学校
が13校と、各県における理療教育の維持に大変厳しい状況となっています。
この少子高齢化の時代に、視覚障害者の職業としての理療及び理療科教員を守る
ためには、教員個人、学校、自治体単位の取り組みでは解決できない状況になって
います。
今年こそ、理療教育に携わる全ての人が、立場を超えて、現実的な解決策を考え、
実行すべき時です。

To the Editor: 
A 75-year-old man with a history of sialolithiasis presented to the outpatient department 
of internal medicine with chief complaints of fever and left cervical pain since the 
previous day. The patient initially noticed mild discomfort in the left submandibular 
region. However, the symptoms gradually worsened, and low-grade fever developed. 
Physical examination revealed redness, swelling, and tenderness in the left 
submandibular region. The patient's neck had a palpable swelling and was warm to 
touch. The submandibular gland was notably inflamed, as confirmed by cervical 
ultrasonography, and displayed signs of infection. Based on the clinical and imaging 
findings, a diagnosis of bacterial submandibular adenitis was made, and the patient was 
promptly admitted to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Intravenous 
antimicrobial agents were initiated to combat the infection and address the systemic 
symptoms. 
 
On the day following admission, the redness and swelling extended to the neck and 
shoulders, raising concerns about potential complications. A thorough clinical 
examination revealed a significant swelling in the floor of the mouth beneath the 
tongue, creating a pronounced "double-tongue" appearance (Figure 1a). This finding 
prompted immediate action and further investigations. Contrast-enhanced computed 
tomography of the cervical region revealed an abscess around the left submandibular 
gland, along with evidence of salivary stones. Based on these findings, a diagnosis of 
Ludwig's angina secondary to bacterial submandibular adenitis was made. Although 
drainage was deemed unnecessary in this case, the patient was closely monitored during 
the course of antimicrobial therapy to ensure the absence of airway obstruction or 
deterioration in the clinical condition. After completion of the treatment regimen, 
complete resolution with the disappearance of the "double-tongue" sign was observed, 
which highlighted the efficacy of the chosen therapeutic approach (Figure 1b). 
 
The double-tongue sign, a unique clinical finding associated with Ludwig's angina, 
served as a crucial diagnostic indicator in this patient.1 Ludwig's angina, characterized 
by a rapidly progressing infection of the floor of the oral cavity, represents a medical 
emergency due to its potential to rapidly compromise the patient's airway.2 It occurs 
more commonly in individuals with poor oral health or immunosuppression.2 Although 
a dental infection is the most common cause, any oropharyngeal infection can progress 
to Ludwig’s angina.3  
 
Our patient was initially diagnosed with submandibular adenitis. However, vigilance 
during the hospital stay led to the identification of the distinctive "double-tongue" sign, 
and enabled a precise diagnosis of Ludwig's angina. This timely recognition was 
crucial, considering the potential fatality associated with Ludwig's angina. Regular 
assessments and prompt recognition of clinical signs can significantly impact patient 
outcomes and enhance the management of potentially life-threatening conditions. 
Therefore, meticulous observation of the floor of the oral cavity is of paramount 
importance in patients undergoing treatment for cervical infections.

研究報告編原稿審査要領
一、『筑波大学アーカイブズ年報』（以下、本誌という）研究報告編への原稿の掲載については、この審査要領
の定めに基づいて行なうものとする。
一、本誌研究報告編に原稿を投稿できるのは、筑波大学アーカイブズ（以下、当館という）所属職員、当館運
営委員、当館研究員、当館調査員及び当館より執筆を依頼した者とする。
一、本誌への投稿原稿は、筑波大学アーカイブズの組織及び運営等に関する規程（平成28年 3月24日法人規程
第31号）第 2条に定める当館の目的及び同第 3条に定める業務に関連する内容のものとする。
一、投稿原稿の種別は、論説、研究ノート、資料紹介、書評その他、当館の目的と業務の遂行に資するものと
する。
一、投稿原稿の分量は、論説20000字、研究ノート及び資料紹介15000字、書評4000字程度を目安とする。
一、投稿原稿の締切は、毎年 3月末日とする。
一、掲載原稿の審査は、別に定める年報編集専門委員会が行なう。
