The Silene latifolia genome and its giant Y chromosome
Data and materials availability: Sequencing data (long reads, short reads, and Omni-C datasets), genome assembly, and annotation are available under the project PRJNA1132743 on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). All analyses and pipelines to generate figures are available on GitHub (https://github.com/Silene-genome/genome-paper) and Zenodo: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14434538.International audienceIn many species with sex chromosomes, the Y is a tiny chromosome. However, the dioecious plant has a giant ~550-megabase Y chromosome, which has remained unsequenced so far. We used a long- and short-read hybrid approach to obtain a high-quality male genome. Comparative analysis of the sex chromosomes with their homologs in outgroups showed that the Y is highly rearranged and degenerated. Recombination suppression between X and Y extended in several steps and triggered a massive accumulation of repeats on the Y as well as in the nonrecombining pericentromeric region of the X, leading to giant sex chromosomes. Using sex phenotype mutants, we identified candidate sex-determining genes on the Y in locations consistent with their favoring recombination suppression events 11 and 5 million years ago

Single-cell genomics of the mouse olfactory cortex reveals contrasts with neocortex and ancestral signatures of cell type evolution
International audienceUnderstanding the molecular logic of cortical cell-type diversity can illuminate cortical circuit function and evolution. Here, we performed single-nucleus transcriptome and chromatin accessibility analyses to compare neurons across three- to six-layered cortical areas of adult mice and across tetrapod species. We found that, in contrast to the six-layered neocortex, glutamatergic neurons of the three-layered mouse olfactory (piriform) cortex displayed continuous rather than discrete variation in transcriptomic profiles. Subsets of piriform and neocortical glutamatergic cells with conserved transcriptomic profiles were distinguished by distinct, area-specific epigenetic states. Furthermore, we identified a prominent population of immature neurons in piriform cortex and observed that, in contrast to the neocortex, piriform cortex exhibited divergence between glutamatergic cells in laboratory versus wild-derived mice. Finally, we showed that piriform neurons displayed greater transcriptomic similarity to cortical neurons of turtles, lizards and salamanders than to those of the neocortex. In summary, despite over 200 million years of coevolution alongside the neocortex, olfactory cortex neurons retain molecular signatures of ancestral cortical identity
International audienceIn turbulent and uncertain environments, organizations increasingly rely on temporary structures to enhance their adaptability. This study investigates the role of task forces within the aerospace supply chain in developing the microfoundations of dynamic capabilities. Based on participant observation and interviews with supply chain actors, we identify how task forces, initially conceived as temporary crisis-response tools, evolve into adaptive mechanisms that foster responsiveness, collaboration, and strategic flexibility. Our findings highlight that while task forces can catalyze learning and coordination, their prolonged use may blur their temporary nature and shape emerging dynamic capabilities.

International audienceNotarial deeds provide documentation of the activities of textile artisans in villages in the Cantal region at the end of the Middle Ages. This poster aims to present the distribution of these weavers and tailors, their place in local society, their production, and the various contexts in which their services were sought (weddings, sumptuous feasts for the nobility, etc.). Some lords stimulated the local craft market, which may explain the presence of specialized artisans in castle towns. This is particularly evident in the case of Tournemire at the end of the 15th century, where there were no fewer than one shoemaker, four tailors, three blacksmiths, and two weavers working to meet the needs of the Anjony and Tournemire families, not to mention the other co-lords. Similarly, the development of a small business bourgeoisie in the towns of Salers, Murat, Saint-Flour, and Aurillac generated opportunities for the consumption of luxury finished products, raising questions about how fabrics were manufactured and distributed until they were transformed into clothing.À partir des actes notariés, il est possible de documenter l'action des artisans du textile dans les villages cantaliens à la fin du Moyen Âge.
