However, the paradoxical consequence of this new consensus is to lock psychiatric practice into a double bind: psychiatric coercion is judged as an “abuse of power” and for its “permissiveness”.AimsTo analyze this moral anomaly by describing the concrete practice of coercion and its justifications in psychiatry as a solution to the clinical problem of agitation.MethodsFrom a medical anthropology perspective on coercion practices in psychiatric hospitals, describe and compare what psychiatrists do and why.ResultsA brief description of a case shows the concrete problem of psychomotor agitation, and its clinical judgment leads to a typology of customary ways of justifying coercion.ConclusionsThe category of violence blurs the clinical meaning of psychomotor agitation as much as it does the practice of physical restraint in psychiatry

No full textInternational audienceIn a context where the social challenges of the energy transition are increasingly strong, this article focuses on the structural elements of a territory likely to weaken the resident population to rising energy prices. It proposes a system of six territorial indicators which is based on two main principles. On the one hand, it focuses on a transversal approach to traditional sectors of public action by dealing with both housing and the daily mobility of households. On the other hand, it is based on the notion of vulnerability, understood as the combination of the three dimensions of sensitivity, exposure and adaptability. Simple and easily reproducible across the entire national territory, these indicators were developed as part of research involving academics and practitioners. They were thus designed to be integrated into an operational platform intended to help local stakeholders with their territorial forecasts and to be able to be returned in the form of easily understandable maps and graphs. Their objective is to allow stakeholders to assess the relevance of their interventions in relation to the types of energy vulnerability that emerge in their territory - according to the two sectors, housing or mobility, and according to the three dimensions of vulnerability. As part of this article, they were applied to the case of Roannais Agglomération, an Agglomeration Community of 40 municipalities and 100,000 inhabitants located in the south-east of France, making it possible to show how they reflect the diversity and spatial structuring of the situations of the municipalities in this area.Dans un contexte où les enjeux sociaux de la transition énergétique sont de plus en plus forts, cet article s’intéresse aux éléments structurels d’un territoire susceptibles de fragiliser la population résidente face au renchérissement de l’énergie. Il propose un système d’indicateurs territoriaux reposant sur deux grands principes. D’une part, il s’attache à une démarche transversale aux secteurs traditionnels de l’action publique en traitant à la fois du logement et de la mobilité quotidienne des ménages. D’autre part, il s’adosse à la notion de vulnérabilité, entendue comme la combinaison des trois dimensions que sont la sensibilité, l’exposition et l’adaptabilité. Simples et facilement reproductibles sur l’ensemble du territoire national, ces indicateurs sont appliqués au cas de la Communauté d’Agglomération de Roannais Agglomération, permettant d’illustrer la diversité et la structuration spatiale des situations des quarante communes de ce territoire
Source Theory : A Tractable and Positive Ambiguity Theory
No full textInternational audienceThis paper introduces source theory, a new theory for decision under ambiguity (unknown probabilities). It shows how Savage’s subjective probabilities, with source-dependent nonlinear weighting functions, can model Ellsberg’s ambiguity. It can do so in Savage’s framework of state-contingent assets, permits nonexpected utility for risk, and avoids multistage complications. It is tractable, shows ambiguity attitudes through simple graphs, is empirically realistic, and can be used prescriptively. We provide a new tool to analyze weighting functions: pmatchers. They give Arrow–Pratt-like transformations but operate “within” rather than “outside” functions. We further show that ambiguity perception and inverse S probability weighting, seemingly unrelated concepts, are two sides of the same “insensitivity” coin.<br /

Mesurer les constructions sociales ? Sur la différence significative entre indexation et mesure
No full textMany psychological constructs of interest are fuzzy, and are ultimately social constructions. However, how social constructions relate to measurement models -how they should be measured, and if they're measurable in the first place -is a big open question in the philosophy of psychometrics. In this article, we propose a meaningful distinction between measurement and indexing by discussing the role of causality versus constitutive relations. We also discuss how social constructions can be handled, and tackle other issues in ontology and causality.De nombreux concepts psychologiques d'intérêt sont flous et, en fin de compte, sont des constructions sociales. Cependant, la manière dont ces constructions sociales se rapportent aux modèles de mesure — comment elles devraient être mesurées, et si elles sont mesurables en premier lieu — est une grande question ouverte dans la philosophie de la psychométrie. Dans cet article, nous proposons une distinction significative entre mesure et indexation en discutant du rôle de la causalité par rapport aux relations constitutives. Nous abordons également la manière dont les constructions sociales peuvent être traitées et traitons d'autres questions liées à l'ontologie et à la causalité

No full textInternational audienceAu travers d’une synthèse de travaux en sciences humaines et sociales portant sur les relations entre enfants et animaux, cet article met en évidence les quatre axes principaux qui ont structuré la recherche sur ce thème depuis les années 1970 : le rôle de l’animal dans le bien-être de l’enfant, la défense d’une éducation en faveur de la cause animale, l’objectivation par enquête statistique des attitudes enfantines à l’égard des animaux et les espaces d’interaction entre enfants et animaux. Il invite, ensuite, à poursuivre l’examen de cet objet en puisant dans les outils théoriques de la sociologie des socialisations. Des questionnements essentiels pour comprendre la construction du rapport aux animaux durant l’enfance demeurent encore sans réponse. Il conviendrait d’approfondir, par exemple, la réception des discours et des supports sur les animaux par les enfants, l’articulation en termes de dispositions entre une diversité d’instances de socialisation ou le rôle joué par les pairs dans un monde de l’enfance saturé par la présence animale
