Cornus mas ameliorates AlCl3-induced Alzheimer's disease in rats with metabolic syndrome by regulating inflammation and oxidative stress
Objectives:Alzheimer's disease (AD) results from different risk variables, such as metabolic syndrome (MetS) and environmental factors. The benefits of Cornus mas L. on diabetes are well-known. However, the impacts of C. mas fruits on AD or MetS-related cognitive dysfunction have not yet been studied. We evaluated the impact of C. mas fruit (80% ethanol) extract in an animal model of MetS and AD.Methods:Male Spraque-Dawley rats were administered a high-fat, high-sugar diet for 105 days alone or with an AlCl3 intraperitoneal injection for the last 60 days. C. mas fruit extract (400, 700, and 1000 mg/kg peroral) was administered for 60 days. After conducting behavioral tests and measuring blood pressure, hippocampal tissues and serum samples were obtained. The phytochemical analyses were conducted on C. mas fruit extract.Results:C. mas alleviated MetS by reducing blood glucose, total cholesterol, and systolic blood pressure levels. Behavioral tests demonstrated that C. mas improves AlCl3-related cognitive decline in rats with MetS, which was supported by the neuroprotective effect of C. mas in histological analysis. C. mas dose-dependently reduced amyloid-beta, malondialdehyde levels, acetylcholinesterase activity in the hippocampus, proinflammatory cytokines in serum, and elevated glutathione levels in the hippocampus. Phytochemical analyses revealed that C. mas fruit contains loganic acid, cornuside, and anthocyanins.Discussion:C. mas fruit extract in every three doses given could improve cognitive decline due to MetS and AlCl3 through alleviation of MetS, oxidative stress and inflammation, prevention of amyloid deposition, and increased cholinergic transmission.Trakya University Scientific Research Project Fund [2021/113]This study was supported by Trakya University Scientific Research Project Fund with the grant number 2021/113
Clinical significance of FDG PET/BT parameters and radiomics in the evaluation of tuberculosis lesions
Tüberkülozun klasik tanı yöntemleri bazı hasta gruplarında yetersiz kalmakta, bu da ampirik tedaviye başvurulmasına yol açmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Flor18-Florodeoksiglukoz Pozitron Emisyon Tomografisi/Bilgisayarlı Tomografi görüntülemesi ile elde edilen radyomik verilerin Tüberküloz ve malign akciğer lezyonları (adenokarsinom ve skuamöz hücreli karsinom) ayrımındaki tanısal rolü araştırılmış, ayrıca ampirik tedavi sonrası tanı konulan vakalar ile klasik yöntemlerle tanı alan olgular karşılaştırılmıştır. 2014–2019 yılları arasında Flor18-Florodeoksiglukoz Pozitron Emisyon Tomografisi/Bilgisayarlı Tomografi incelemesi yapılmış olan toplam 102 hasta retrospektif olarak incelenmiştir. Hastalar ampirik tedavi sonrası tanı doğrulanan Tüberküloz (n=27), klasik yöntemlerle tanısı konulmuş Tüberküloz (n=28), akciğer adenokarsinomu (n=20) ve skuamöz hücreli karsinom (n=27) olmak üzere dört gruba ayrılmıştır. 'Local Image Feature Extraction' yazılımı ile radyomik parametreler elde edilmiş, bu verilerden anlamlı bulunanlar üzerinden Python tabanlı makine öğrenimi modelleri geliştirilmiştir. Analizlerde, özellikle morfolojik, yoğunluk temelli ve tekstürel parametrelerde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farklar saptanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerle geliştirilen makine öğrenmesi modelleri Tüberküloz ve malignite ayrımında yüksek doğruluk oranlarına ulaşmış; en iyi modelde 'Area Under the Curve' değeri 0.95 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Grup 1 ile Grup 2'nin ayırımında ise 'Extreme Gradient Boosting'algoritması en yüksek duyarlılığı sağlamıştır. A GROUP OF RITUAL TAMBOURINES IN THE EDIRNE ARCHEOLOGY AND ETHNOGRAPHY MUSEUM: MAZHARS
Large-sized ritual tambourines, called mazhar, have played important roles in religious and cultural life since the founding of the Ottoman Empire. This instrument, which is known by different names, has gained respect due to the fact that it is an element used in the rites and ceremonies of the sects that perform vocal dhikr and is identified with the transformation adventure of the dervish. This research was carried out with the aim of examining and dating the structural, functional, ornamental and symbolic features of 17 mazhars which are in the collection of the Turkish Islamic Arts Museum affiliated with the Edirne Archeology and Ethnography Museum. In this study; the invention of the tambourine and its place as a ritual instrument in different cultures were summarized. Then the works were examined and dated in terms of their structural, functional, ornamental and symbolic features. In the examined mazhars, it was determined that the leather was fixed to the hoop with two different techniques: rope and nails. And there are three types; those with beam strings, those with zingirdek and those with empty hoops. In this context, it was noted that the mazhar, which we can consider as an instrument that is structurally and functionally tolerant to different applications, is conservative, especially in its circular form and without a cymbal. It is understood that the structural features of the instrument, especially the diameter of the hoop, affect its tone and playing techniques. Calligraphy stands out as the most prominent element used in the decoration of the mazhars. Inscriptions of different qualities were identified on or inside 13 works. The writings on the inside are ordinary by style but some of them influenced the course of our research as documentary writings. Especially, the clear dates stated in the two works have been the most important basis for placing the subject on a certain historical basis. The calligraphies on the front sides are specially written style and have an artistic and esthetic appearance. This fact suggests that these instruments, which are usually hung on the walls, albeit indirectly are a part of the lodge decoration. The writings on the front, written in a muhakkak style, helped to date some works that do not contain a date, such as the crescent-star symbol consisting of a crescent and a five-pointed star drawn on a work, to the 19th century. We also discovered that there is a connection between the instrument and dervish's journey to become the Perfect Human and reaching God. Likewise, we have seen that the mazhar is associated with Sufi concepts such as union, and we believe that this connection, strengthened by the wedding metaphor, is related to the announcement of the wedding, which is one of the first and most important duties of the instrument in Islamic life. As a result, it was determined that some of the works had a direct connection with the Sa'diyye, Rifaiyye and K & amacr;diriyye sects, and an indirect connection with the Bektasiyye; that these sects indicate a cultural permeability between their lodges and that this permeability may have occurred in a period from the first quarter of the 19th century to the first quarter of the 20th century, under the influence of the political, social and religious events of the period. Managers' Attitudes on The Use of Artificial Intelligence Technology in Human Resources Management: A Qualitative Research in The Central District of Edirne Province
With the spread of Industry 4.0, many technologies that have emerged have been included in the business models and business processes of businesses. Companies in Edirne Central District, Turkey's gateway to Europe, have also integrated industry 4.0 technologies into their business. The research aims to reveal the attitudes of company managers operating in Edirne, Turkey's border province to Europe, regarding the use of artificial intelligence in HRM functions and to guide future research on this subject. It has been observed that the most used industry 4.0 technology in the Central District of Edirne Province is artificial intelligence. In this research, with a phenomenological pattern in which a qualitative approach was adopted, a semi-structured interview method was used to benefit more from the opinions of the participants. In the research, it was determined that company managers in the Central District of Edirne Province (despite some concerns) adopted a supportive attitude towards the use of artificial intelligence in HRM. Executives say that in the current situation, it is not possible to completely transfer HRM to AI; however, they stated that it could benefit from conceptual issues. Managers underlined the combination of AI and human factors for effective HRM. For this reason, in the conclusion of the research, a model in which artificial intelligence and human factors are considered together is proposed. Flexible and Efficient Iterative Solutions for General Variational Inequalities in Real Hilbert Spaces
This paper introduces a novel Picard-type iterative algorithm for solving general variational inequalities in real Hilbert spaces. The proposed algorithm enhances both the theoretical framework and practical applicability of iterative algorithms by relaxing restrictive conditions on parametric sequences, thereby expanding their scope of use. We establish convergence results, including a convergence equivalence with a previous algorithm, highlighting the theoretical relationship while demonstrating the increased flexibility and efficiency of the new approach. The paper also addresses gaps in the existing literature by offering new theoretical insights into the transformations associated with variational inequalities and the continuity of their solutions, thus paving the way for future research. The theoretical advancements are complemented by practical applications, such as the adaptation of the algorithm to convex optimization problems and its use in real-world contexts like machine learning. EVALUATING THE ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY AWARENESS OF PADDY PRODUCERS IN THE MERIT PLAIN (NORTHWEST TURKEY): A COMPREHENSIVE STATISTICAL APPROACH
Aim of the study The Meri & ccedil; Plain, a critical agricultural region known as the Rice Land in Turkey, hosts the country's largest rice cultivation area. This study examines the environmental sustainability awareness of rice farmers in the region. Material and methods Data were collected from 103 farmers using a convenience sampling method and statistically analysed using SPSS 27 software. Results and conclusions The findings revealed that environmental sustainability awareness is not significantly influenced by demographic factors such as age or income, while the level of education has a significant positive impact. Farmers with only primary education exhibited significantly lower awareness compared to those with higher education levels. No significant difference was observed among those with high school, associate, and bachelor's degrees, indicating that awareness stabilizes after a certain educational threshold
Vibration analysis of axially graded Timoshenko-Ehrenfest nanobeam under partial thermal load
Vibration analysis of an axially functionally graded carbon nanotube under the effect of partial thermal load has been carried out in the present work. The nanotube is modeled based on the Timoshenko-Ehrenfest beam theory, and size dependency in nanoscale is considered using Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. Energy functional of the nanobeam is obtained with potential, kinetic energies and virtual work principle. Material properties exhibit a spatial power law variation along the length of nanotube. Governing partial differential equations of motion with variable coefficients have been solved with Ritz method. Vibration frequencies and mode shapes for graded nanobeam are acquired. Obtained results are compared with the literature, and results display a high degree of accuracy. Vibration frequencies for the axially graded macro-scale beam are also computed by finite element method, and results are compared to test the accuracy of the present method. The influences of material inhomogeneity, graded nonlocality, boundary conditions, partial thermal load and temperature difference on transverse dynamics of the axially functionally graded nanobeam are investigated. Results demonstrate that partial thermal load has a significant effect on vibration frequencies. Bu tez, Türkiye'nin çok partili siyasi hayata geçiş sürecinde, 1945 yılında Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi içinde ortaya çıkan muhalefet hareketinin basındaki yansımalarını incelemektedir. Çalışmamın odağında, CHP milletvekilleri Adnan Menderes, Refik Koraltan, Fuad Köprülü ve Celal Bayar tarafından verilen ve "Dörtlü Takrir" olarak bilinen önerge yer almaktadır. Takrir, yalnızca parti içi bir muhalefet metni değil, aynı zamanda Türkiye'nin demokratikleşme sürecinde önemli bir kırılma noktası olmuştur. Tezin temel amacı, Dörtlü Takrir'in ortaya çıkış koşullarını, kamuoyunda ve siyasi yapıda nasıl karşılandığını ve yol açtığı siyasi kırılmaları kapsamlı şekilde analiz etmektir. Bu bağlamda muhalefetin ortaya çıkışı, partiden ihraçlar ve Demokrat Parti'nin kuruluş süreciyle birlikte basındaki söylemler karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Metin değiştirim tekniğinin almanca öğrencilerinin akademik yazma becerisine etkisine yönelik çalışma
Yeniden yazma alıştırmaları ile özellikle yabancı dilde yazma sürecinde örnek metinler sayesinde daha pratik şekilde metin üretilebilir. Bu bağlamda metin değiştirim tekniği ilkeleri ile yeniden yazma çalışmaları bilinçli şekilde uygulanabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye'de yabancı dil olarak Almanca öğrenen öğrencilerin akademik metinleri metin değiştirim tekniğiyle yeniden yazmasının öğrencilerde yazma becerisine, yazma kaygısına ve yazma motivasyonuna etkisini araştırmaktır. Çalışmanın örneklemi, Trakya Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi Almanca Öğretmenliği Lisans Programı 2024-2025 Akademik yılı Bahar Döneminde "Akademik Almanca" seçmeli dersini alan öğrencilerden oluşmaktadır. Karma araştırma yönteminin gömülü deseni çerçevesinde yürütülen bu çalışmada, nicel veriler "Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Akademik Becerilerini Değerlendirme Ölçeği" (İng. MASUS - Measuring the Academic Skills of University Students) ile değerlendirilmiş olup, metin değiştirim tekniği kullanılarak bilinçli ve stratejik yeniden yazma çalışmaları ile öğrencilerin akademik yazma düzeyleri arasında (ön test- %73,3 – son test- %95,6) büyük oranda farklılık olduğu saptanmıştır. Çalışmanın nitel kısmında öğrencilerin yabancı dil olarak Almanca öğretiminde metin değiştirim tekniği ile akademik metinlerin yeniden yazılmasına yönelik görüşleri görüş formu ile toplanmıştır. Elde edilen nitel verilere göre öğrenciler, daha önce bilgi sahibi olmadıkları metin değiştirim tekniği ve ilkeleri ile akademik yazma sürecinden memnun kaldıklarını ifade etmişlerdir. Tüm öğrenciler akademik yazma motivasyonlarının arttığını ve akademik yazma kaygılarının azaldığını ifade etmiştir.
