Die geologische Entwicklung und Metamorphose im Erzgebirge, Ein Exkursionsführer durch das Erzgebirge
Der Exkursionsführer gibt am Beispiel von zwölf ausgewählten Aufschlusspunkten einen Überblick zur komplexen Entstehungsgeschichte des Erzgebirgskristallins. Die Zuordnung der geologischen Aufschlusspunkte zur jeweiligen metamorphen Einheit erfolgt durch eine Zusammenführung und Interpretation geochemisch-lithologischer-, petrologischer- und tektonischer Untersuchungsergebnisse und anhand von Altersdaten. An den Aufschlusspunkten werden Vergleiche zu angrenzenden geologischen Einheiten, wie zur Lausitz, zum Frankenberger Zwischengebirge und zum Münchberger Massiv hergestellt. Entlang eines vom Ost- zum mittleren Erzgebirge verlaufenden Profils können vom Liegenden zum Hangenden die folgenden metamorphen Einheiten unterschieden werden: Im Liegenden stehen Gesteine der Gneiss-Amphibolit-Einheit an. Dazu gehören Orthogneise, mit eingeschalteten Amphiboliten und Metagrauwacken, deren Edukte identisch mit Granodioriten und Grauwacken der Lausitz sind. Darüber folgen fünf verschiedene Deckeneinheiten. Diese weisen gleiche lithologisch-geochemische Merkmale auf, die eine Zuordnung zu Sedimentgesteinen und Vulkaniten thüringischer Fazies zulassen. Die Decken lassen sich petrologisch durch ihre unterschiedlichen maximalen Druck- und Temperaturbedingungen voneinander abgrenzen. Die Metamorphite der fünf Hochdruck-Decken unterlagen einer variszischen Subduktion in unterschiedliche Tiefen und stiegen anschließend bis in die mittlere Kruste auf. Die mit dem Aufstieg verbundene Krustenverdickung leitete einen Extensionsprozess ein. Dabei entstand der Kontakt der fünf Deckeneinheiten mit der tiefsten Gneis-Amphibolit-Einheit und der oberen allochthonen Deckeneinheit. Im Tertiär wurde das gesamte Erzgebirgskristallin bruchtektonisch herausgehoben
An annotated checklist and the first Red List of harvestmen (Opiliones) of Slovakia
Although harvestmen are a significant group of terrestrial invertebrates, their effective protection has not been ensured in Slovakia to this day. Not a single species belonging to the order Opiliones has been included in the “Red Data Book of threatened and rare plant and animal species of the Czech and Slovak Federal Republic”. Harvestmen have also not been included in the Red List of plants and animals of Slovakia. Since a new Red Data Book of invertebrates of Slovakia is currently under production, a checklist and the first Red List of harvestmen of Slovakia were prepared. Thirty-five species of harvestmen were identified based on the analysis of all records published since 1873 and our unpublished records. A total of 5,254 records of harvestman species from 2,772 locations were analysed across 318 grid cells, each measuring 10 × 10 km. Two species were recorded exclusively in the Pannonian and six in the Alpine biogeographical region, while the remaining species occurred in both regions. All 35 species were assessed based on the current IUCN Red List criteria, categorising them as follows: Critically Endangered (Holoscotolemon jaqueti), Endangered (Siro carpaticus), Vulnerable (Gyas titanus, Ischyropsalis manicata, Paranemastoma kochii, Paranemastoma quadripunctatum), Near Threatened (Lacinius dentiger, Lacinius horridus, Opilio parietinus, Platybunus pallidus), Least Concern (22 species), Data Deficient (2), and Not Evaluated (1). A brief overview of the history of Opiliones research in Slovakia is also provided
Enhancing Diagnostic Sensitivity: Investigating Molecular Mechanisms of Antigen Rapid Diagnostic Test (AgRDTs) Variability Across SARS-CoV-2 Variants
The emergence of COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, led to the widespread use of antigen rapid diagnostic tests (AgRDTs) due to their speed, affordability, and ease of use. However, the diagnostic sensitivity of AgRDTs has been inconsistent across emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants, with some variants exhibiting reduced detection rates. Thus, AgRDTs have been unreliable in detecting the different variants of SARS-CoV-2. This study explores the molecular mechanisms responsible for this variability, focusing on structural changes in the viral spike (S) and nucleocapsid (N) proteins and how these changes affect antigen-antibody interactions. Using structural biology techniques such as X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy, molecular virology approaches like whole genome sequencing, immunoassays including ELISA and surface plasmon resonance (SPR), and computational modelling tools for molecular dynamics simulations, this research will uncover specific mutations that impact diagnostic sensitivity. The results of this study will inform the development of next-generation AgRDTs with enhanced sensitivity across diverse viral variants, thereby supporting global efforts in pandemic surveillance and control
Grewia kentingensis (Malvaceae, Grewioideae), a new species from Taiwan
Grewia kentingensis Y.H. Tseng, Chih Y.Chang & C.Y.Lin, sp. nov., a new species found on elevated coral reefs in southern Taiwan, is described. The species was previously misidentified as G. piscatorum Hance. Grewia kentingensis differs from G. piscatorum in its habit (procumbent vs. erect to ascending shrub), leaf length (<2 cm vs. up to 7 cm), breeding system (gynodioecious vs. trioecious), smaller flower diameter, fewer stamens, and smaller pollen grains. Color photographs, line drawings, and pollen images of the new species are provided. Additionally, a lectotype for G. piscatorum is designated and an identification key for the Grewia taxa of Taiwan is presented
Non-lichenized Cytosporella, including C. fuligomixta sp. nov., and related plant-associated and fungicolous genera are close to foliicolous, lichenized fungi (Ascomycota, Graphidales)
The genus Cytosporella includes non-lichenized, plant associated fungi producing eustromatic conidiomata, phialidic conidiophores and hyaline, ellipsoid conidia. Of the 69 names assigned to this genus in Index Fungorum, only three species are associated with sequence data. In this study, a new species: Cytosporella fuligomixta is described based on a strain isolated from the sooty mould community on Quercus robur leaves in Poland. The phylogenetic analyses including sequences of two loci (LSU, mtSSU) showed that Cytosporella species, together with members of four other non-lichenized, plant associated or fungicolous genera, namely Cladosterigma, Neoacrodontiella, Nothoramularia and Vanderaaea, form a sister group to lichenized and lichenicolous fungi from the family Gomphillaceae and order Graphidales. Previously, Cladosterigma was resolved as a member of Gomphillaceae using multi-locus (mtSSU, SSU, LSU, ITS, rpb2, tef1) and two-locus (LSU, mtSSU) sequence analyses, while Cytosporella, Neoacrodontiella, Nothoramularia were shown to belong to this family using LSU sequence analyses. However, none of them resolved these genera as a sister group to lichenized members of Gomphillaceae. The placement of the genus Vanderaaea within Gomphillaceae is shown here for the first time. Due to phylogenetic, morphological and ecological characteristics a new subfamily Cladosterigmoideae is described for these five non-lichenized genera
Radiation characteristics of reactor grade platinum group metals
The paper examines the radiation characteristics of noble platinum group metals (PGMs) extracted from spent nuclear fuel (SNF) of the VVER-1000 reactor. These are the so-called reactor-grade ruthenium, rhodium and palladium. PGMs are radioactive when extracted from SNF, but after the decay cooling of ruthenium for about 27 years, and of rhodium for about 13 years, they can be used in unlimited quantities. There is no sense in decay cooling of reactor grade palladium due to its radioactive isotope 107Pd having a half-life of 6.5 million years. As specified by regulatory documents, such palladium can be freely used only in quantities of up to 34 g. Pd is a soft beta emitter with a maximum beta particle energy of 34 keV. The calculation results show that the mean free path of beta particles from 107Pd in palladium metal is 0.8 μm, so reactor-grade palladium emits only from the surface layer, and other electrons are absorbed in the material itself. The mean free path of electrons with an energy of 34 keV in biological tissue is about 20 μm, which does not exceed the thickness of the skin epidermiscorneous layer. Calculations have shown that the equivalent dose rate (EDR) on the surface of reactor-grade palladium is 0.04 μSv/h, which is below the public EDR value. As a result, a conclusion is made that reactor-grade palladium does not pose a danger in the event of external contact
Checklist of the flies (Diptera) in Canada
It is important to know which species occur in Canada to be able to protect them. The goal of this checklist is to identify all known species of flies in Canada. Results indicated that we have 9777 known species of flies in Canada, among 118 families. When considering all known species in Canada, flies represent about 12% of species, making them one of the most diverse groups. On average, each species of flies occurred in 3.2 regions (provinces or territories) in Canada. English and French common names were developed and standardized for all species. This checklist is a fundamental piece of work that will guide the assessment of the conservation status of those species.Il est important de connaître quelles espèces sont présentes au Canada afin de pouvoir les protéger. Le but de cette liste est d’identifier toutes les espèces connues de mouches au Canada. Les résultats indiquent que nous avons 9777 espèces connues de mouches au Canada, parmi 118 familles. En considérant toutes les espèces connues au Canada, les mouches représentent environ 12% des espèces, en faisant l’un des groupes les plus diversifiés. En moyenne, chaque espèce de mouches se retrouvait dans 3,2 régions (provinces ou territoires) au Canada. Des noms communs en français et en anglais ont été développés et normalisés pour toutes les espèces. Cette liste représente un travail fondamental qui aidera l’évaluation du statut de conservation de ces espèces
The usefulness of the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation - An explorative study into its shortcomings and challenges
The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR)1 aims to enhance transparency and curb greenwashing by standardizing sustainability disclosures. Despite its ambitious goals, the SFDR faces challenges and criticisms regarding its practical implementation and effectiveness. This article delves into these issues through an exploration of the European Commission consultations, articles, and recommendations from entities such as the Platform on Sustainable Finance (PSF), the European Sustainable Investment Forum (Eurosif), and the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). Our study identifies key areas where the SFDR currently falls short while suggestions for improving the effectiveness of disclosures are provided
A new species of the genus Falcileptoneta Komatsu, 1970 (Araneae, Leptonetidae) from Jilin, China
Falcileptoneta Komatsu, 1970 comprises 68 species, distributed in Japan (28), Korea (31) and southeast of China (9). This genus has not been recorded in the north-eastern part of China.A new species: Falcileptoneta taoqii sp. nov. (♂♀) are reported from Jilin Province, China. This is also the first record of Leptonetidae Simon, 1890 in north-eastern China. Photos and morphological descriptions of the new species are presented; the type specimens of the new species are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZCAS), Beijing
The first neuroanatomical study of a marine pleurodire (the large Paleocene bothremydid Azzabaremys moragjonesi) reveals convergences with other clades of pelagic turtles
Azzabaremys moragjonesi, from the Paleocene of Mali, is a member of Nigeremydini. This is a clade of bothremydid pleurodiran turtles that includes large putatively marine forms which inhabited the African Trans-Saharian Seaway from the Maastrichtian to the Paleocene. This work represents the first neuroanatomical reconstruction of a putative sea pleurodire. Some of the neuroanatomical modifications observed for Azzabaremys moragjonesi differ from those in the other lineages of Bothremydidae in which these structures have been documented, corresponding to freshwater instead of pelagic marine forms. In fact, the primitive condition for Pleurodira is the adaptation to freshwater environments, as is the case with all extant representatives, but also with most documented extinct forms. The neuroanatomy of Azzabaremys moragjonesi shows convergences with that of the members of Pan-Cryptodira with adaptations to marine environments (i.e., Chelonioidea, including Cheloniidae and Dermochelyidae), but also with other clades of marine turtles exclusive to the fossil record (i.e., several Mesozoic and Palaeogene clades with uncertain affiliations: Plesiochelyidae, Sandownidae, and Protostegidae). Thus, aspects such as the position of the geniculate ganglion into the canalis cavernosus, the absence of an anterior vidian canal piercing the pterygoid, and the possession of wide semicircular canals of the endosseous labyrinth, as well as the possible presence of enlarged lacrimal glands, are recognized here as convergent modifications developed in Cryptodira, extinct clades with uncertain affiliations, and Pleurodira in response to adaptation to marine environments
