Criminologische inzichten voor internal auditors: een multidisciplinaire benadering van afwijkend gedrag
Dit artikel beschrijft een onderzoek naar de wijze waarop criminologische theorieën internal auditors helpen bij het begrijpen en aanpakken van mogelijke oorzaken van afwijkend gedrag binnen organisaties. Hierbij staat niet de inbreukmaker centraal, maar de omgevingsfactoren in de organisatie die invloed hebben op het gedrag van de (potentiële) inbreukmaker; het gaat dus niet om de appel, maar om de mand. Het benadrukt het belang van een multidisciplinaire benadering en biedt praktische aanbevelingen voor het toepassen van criminologische inzichten in de internal auditpraktijk
New species of Tridactyloidea (Orthoptera, Caelifera) from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber show an intermediate evolutionary state between extant lineages
Two new genera and species of Tridactyloidea Brullé, 1835 from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber are described. Abaddonella nwarrngaal gen. et sp. nov. is based on a well-preserved male specimen. It is assigned to Ripipterygidae Ander, 1939 due to its one-segemented cercus and the mesotibia not being significantly wider than mesofemur. The new genus is similar to Burmaripipteryx Zhao, Xu, Jarzembowski, Fang & Xiao, 2023 in regard to its abdominal and external genitalia morphology, but it differs from the latter genus (as well as other Ripipterygidae) by two small bumps on the vertex in front of the eyes. The second new taxon described is named Naginipteryx pinna gen. et sp. nov. Despite exhibiting a distinct ripipterygid-like morphology of the external genitalia, it shows a very inflated mesotibia with a marked triangular shape. This feature is usually considered to be diagnostic of Tridactylidae Brullé, 1835. The taxonomic position of N. pinna, therefore, is difficult. For now, the species is placed outside both families (Ripipterygidae and Tridactylidae) and is suggested to be an ancestor of both lineages, prior to the evolutionary separation being completed. An identification key to the genera of Ripipterygidae from Burmese amber is provided
The present-day crustal stress field of the Molasse Basin in Switzerland
We present a completely revised and extended database of the crustal present-day orientation of the maximum horizontal stress SHmax for northern Switzerland and neighbouring regions. We analysed 32 deep boreholes located in the Molasse Basin of Switzerland from which we interpreted > 30 km of image and caliper logs and picked from these the stress-induced borehole breakouts, drilling induced tensile fractures, and petal centerlines. We also used 105 induced fractures from 139 microhydraulic fracturing tests in 8 boreholes. The interpretation of the data resulted in 64 data records of the SHmax orientation. In addition, we also used an extended and revised dataset of 704 earthquake focal mechanisms computed by the Swiss Seismological Service and derived SHmax orientations from these as well. Combining these data with data records from the World Stress Map database release 2016 resulted in a dataset with 948 data records. The overall regional pattern of the SHmax orientation in the Alpine foreland of Switzerland shows a counterclockwise rotation of approximately 50° from N–S in the northeast to NW–SE in the southwest supporting earlier interpretations that the SHmax orientation is primarily controlled by the gravitational potential energy of the Alpine topography. Beyond this large-scale pattern, no further lateral changes of the SHmax orientation imposed by structural elements or rock property contrasts are resolved due to the resolution limit of the dataset. On average, there is only one reliable data record in Switzerland per 140 km2 with predominant standard deviations of ± 20–25° for individual data records. Thus, small SHmax rotations as well as rotations on lateral scales of a few 10s of km are typically not resolved. We also investigated changes of the SHmax orientation with depth with an emphasis on a potential impact of a mechanical decoupling horizon between the Mesozoic sediments and the underlying basement, which is located in the Middle Muschelkalk (Triassic). For this we used a sub-dataset of 88 SHmax orientations located in northern Switzerland where we have a good coverage of data records in the sediments (n = 43) and in the basement (n = 45). The mean SHmax orientation in the sediments is 166 ± 12° and in the basement 159 ± 22° indicating that a potential decoupling horizon either does not leave an imprint in the SHmax orientation or that decoupling is not acting on a regional scale
Difference in sale strategies drive spatial heterogeneity in collection pressure through online auctions: the role of body colour variation in the Japanese freshwater crabs, Geothelphusa dehaani species complex
The increase in online sales of living organisms has raised considerable concerns about its impact on wildlife. High demand for specific biological traits can intensify collection pressure via wildlife trades, yet the effects of colour variations and their geographical distribution on regional collection pressure remain poorly understood. This study analysed 11 years of transaction data — including, number, volume, price, date, colour types (DB: dark brown; RD: red; SB: sky blue; OT: other colours; and Mix) and collection locality — for the Geothelphusa dehaani species complex, renowned for its regional colour variations and aquarium popularity. Contrary to expectations that rarer colouration types (SB and OT types) are collected in higher numbers, the wild G. dehaani species complex collection pressure via online auctions (i.e. selling volume of wild-caught individuals) was higher for the common DB type (15,493 individuals) than for the rarer SB and OT types (2,073 and 173 individuals, respectively). This difference arose from a mechanism based on two distinct strategies linked to the colour traits and geographical distribution: the DB type followed a low-profit, high-sales (LPHS) strategy, selling large quantities at low unit prices, while the SB and OT types employed a high-profit, low-sales (HPLS) strategy, selling fewer individuals at higher unit prices. These findings highlight how colour variations influence online auction sales strategies and may negatively impact wildlife populations due to heterogeneous collection pressure at regional or local levels. Given the potential for rapid shifts of such mechanism driven by the appearance of mass sellers or the taxonomic revisions (i.e. additional value by a new species), our study suggests that implementing nuanced regulatory measures — for example, annual limits on the number of living animal auctions per taxon per year — could mitigate the risks associated with the diverse collection pressures through online auctions
Two new species of Nigropunctata and the first report of sexual morph of Melanographium citri (Pallidoperidiaceae, Xylariales) from south-western China
In our ongoing survey of xylarialean fungi in southern China, we obtained specimens of Nigropunctata and Melanographium from bamboo and palm, respectively. Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference analyses, based on five loci (ITS, LSU, rpb2, tub2 and tef-1α), were used to clarify the taxonomic placement of these specimens. Our results confirm that the specimens represent two new species Nigropunctata shiwandashanensis and N. puerzhenensis, as well as a new geographical record, Melanographium citri, which represents the first report of the sexual state for this genus. We provide detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations, as well as a comparison between the new species and related or similar species
Engineering Open by Design into Research Infrastructures
Research activities utilise and depend on interlocking infrastructures – tools, standards, protocols, and other systems and structures at local, national, and international scales that enable researchers to collaborate, analyze and share data and software, and discuss their research findings. Despite growing policy momentum towards open science, a significant challenge persists: a substantial portion of research infrastructure remains inherently closed or restrictive. This lack of openness undermines transparency, integrity, limits reproducibility, and constrains researchers’ ability to fully engage with each other. In this paper, we examine how research infrastructures can be designed to embed open principles throughout their development and operation, borrowing elements from Manufacturing Principles, Systemic Service Design, and Open Science frameworks. We propose an open-by-design reference framework for infrastructure builders and guidance for enabling, making visible, and incentivizing specific elements of “openness” within research infrastructures that are prerequisites for a thriving research and knowledge ecosystem
Clinical pharmacist interventions in infectious disease service: types, acceptance, and cost savings analysis using a customized electronic intervention system
Background: Having a dedicated clinical pharmacist (CP) is essential for enhancing antimicrobial use and therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the types of interventions by CPs in infectious disease (ID) cases, focusing on intervention type and cost savings while utilizing and customizing an electronic reporting system. Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted on CP interventions in ID service at a tertiary care hospital. The primary objective was to categorize the types of CP interventions used in ID services. Secondary objectives included evaluating the physician acceptance rate and estimating the cost savings achieved through the electronic intervention system. Results: A total of 464 interventions were performed on 187 patients under the ID consultation service. CPs documented various types of interventions, with the most common being pharmacokinetics (PK) dosing/monitoring (25.9%) and renal dosing (20.7%). These interventions resulted in an estimated cost savings of approximately 234,666 Saudi Riyals (SAR), equivalent to 62,577.60 United States dollars (USD). Conclusions: Our study confirmed that CP involvement in ID services contributed to cost savings and shortened the length of hospital stay
Frontliners’ tales of human-wildlife interactions in the Himalayan mid-hills: A workshop report
The International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) organised a two-day consultative workshop in Phuntsholing, Bhutan, focusing on human-wildlife conflict (HWC) management in the Himalayan mid-hills, a region often overlooked in favour of the foothills where human-elephant conflicts dominate. The workshop brought together key officials from Bhutan, India and Nepal to synthesise discussions across five thematic areas: Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI), Stakeholders and Partnerships, Risk Management, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Sustainability and Scaling of Solutions.The meeting highlighted stark gender disparities in HWC impacts, with women disproportionately affected due to their roles in resource collection and agriculture, yet marginalised in decision-making. Socio-cultural norms, caste hierarchies and financial constraints further restricted their participation. Children, the elderly and persons with disabilities also faced heightened risks. Stakeholder mapping identified NGOs, international donors, the private sector and media as crucial partners in mitigation, with varying degrees of involvement across countries. Risk management strategies emphasised species-specific deterrents, gender-inclusive rapid response teams and landscape-level interventions.Community-driven M&E systems, supported by technology (e.g. drones, AI cameras), were deemed essential for tracking conflict trends and intervention effectiveness. Sustainability hinged on strengthening local ownership, assured funding and policy integration. Persistent challenges included gender inequity, conflicting stakeholder interests and weak M&E systems. Future directions advocate for institutional reforms (e.g. gender quotas), alternative livelihoods and transboundary collaboration. The workshop underscored the need for inclusive, adaptive strategies to foster sustainable human-wildlife co-existence in the Himalayan mid-hills
Dicranota Zetterstedt, 1838 crane flies (Diptera, Pediciidae) of Korea
Pediciinae crane flies belonging to the genus Dicranota Zetterstedt, 1838 of the Korean Peninsula were studied beginning in 1933, but only seven species have been recorded from North Korea so far; the genus was unknown from South Korea. Seventeen species were found during our studies on the Peninsula, three of them described as new: D. (Eudicranota) distincta Podenas, sp. nov., D. (Rhaphidolabis) seoi Podenas, sp. nov., D. (Rhaphidolabis) yeongokia Podenas, sp. nov. Ten new species are added to the Korean species list, five of them new for North Korea with total number reaching twelve, and eleven species new for South Korea. Habitat, elevation range, and seasonality data is presented for each species. Images of taxonomically important morphological characters, distribution maps, and an identification key for all Korean species of the genus Dicranota are presented
Porroglossum hildeae sp. nov. (Orchidaceae), a new species from the threatened cloud forests of northwestern Ecuador
A new species of Porroglossum (Orchidaceae) is described and illustrated from the cloud forests of northwestern Ecuador. Porroglossum hildeae sp. nov. is morphologically similar to P. josei Luer, but can be distinguished by several features: it has narrowly obovate leaves reaching up to 9 cm in length (vs. elliptical, 4.5 cm), a longer dorsal sepaline tail measuring 6 mm (vs. 1.5 mm), oblong-ovate petals with one acute angle at the upper margin (vs. ovate with the upper and lower margins acutely angled below the middle), and the lip obtrullate, attenuate at the base, and acute at the apex (vs. obovate with the apex obtuse and abruptly acuminate). It grows epiphytically at approximately 1,600 m elevation in a cloud forest ecosystem that is increasingly threatened by deforestation, land-use change, and mining activities. Due to its restricted distribution and the ongoing degradation of its habitat, we recommend classifying it as Critically Endangered according to IUCN Red List criteria
