Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Melalui Pendidikan Biologi Untuk Menjaga Keanekaragaman Hayati dan Keseimbangan Ekosistem
Biodiversity is an integral part of the balance of ecosystems that support the survival of various living beings on Earth, including humans. However, threats to biodiversity due to environmental degradation, climate change, and overexploitation have led to significant declines in many species and ecosystems. One effective strategy to address this problem is community empowerment through biology education. Through Biology Education, people can acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the importance of biodiversity conservation as well as the ways in which they can maintain the balance of ecosystems. This study aims to examine how biology education can empower the community in an effort to maintain biodiversity and ecosystem balance. Through a qualitative approach, this study explores the influence of biology education programs on increasing environmental awareness, behavior change, and community involvement in conservation activities. The results showed that biology education can improve people's understanding of the relationship between human activities and their impact on ecosystems. This education Program also encourages communities to engage in various conservation activities, such as afforestation, waste management, and protection of local species
Coastal Clean Up sebagai Upaya Penguatan Strategi Pengelolaan Kawasan Konservasi Pesisir dan Pulau-pulau Kecil (KKP3K) Paloh Kalimantan Barat
Paloh District is a coastal area which directly borders to Sarawak (Malaysia) and the Natuna Sea. This area has the potential for marine and coastal resources, such as mangrove ecosystems, coral reefs and turtles, so it has been designated as one of the conservation areas in West Kalimantan. To date, in the management of KKP3K Paloh, there are still many challenges, one of them is plastic waste contamination. Plastic waste is a global and very complex problem, because it can have a negative impact on biota, ecosystems and human health. The results of a report from BKSDA in collaboration with the WWF-Indonesia Foundation, found that 21 young turtles were died on Paloh Beach, West Kalimantan due to plastic waste was found in their digestive tract. Plastic accumulation in the aquatic environment occurs when the rate of input of plastic pollution into an area exceeds the rate of natural removal processes. Therefore, it is needed an action to reduce the amount of plastic waste accumulated in coastal and marine areas. This activity aimed to reduce the amount of plastic waste on Sungai Belacan Beach, Paloh District, West Kalimantan. Apart from that, this activity was an effort to strengthen the management strategy for the Coastal and Small Islands Conservation Area (KKP3K) in Paloh, West Kalimantan. Community Service Activities were carried out at Sungai Belacan Beach. The results found the waste types consisting of plastic bottles, glass bottles, medicine bottles, drink cups/packaging, food and beauty product packaging, stereofoam, plastic bags and ropes, fishermen's fishing gear, and wood. Plastic waste has the highest percentage (95%), then wood waste (3%), and other types of waste (2%)

Natural and non-natural disasters occurring in the world continue to increase unpredictably. Considering that disasters can occur at any time, community preparedness in facing disasters is very important. However, the research results show that community preparedness still needs to be improved. This condition also occurs with service partners. Even though Panti Village area is a disaster-prone area, public awareness of disaster preparedness is still low. However, on the other hand, partners have the potential to be developed, namely the existence of Disaster Preparedness Village Youth (DESTANA) which is expected to become a driving force to increase public awareness of disaster preparedness. The solution offered to overcome this problem is to increase community awareness and ability to prepare for disasters through collaboration with DESTANA and BPBD. The activities carried out include health education about disaster management and continued with simulations of disaster emergency management such as the evacuation process when a disaster occurs, dressing splints and simple wound care when a disaster occurs, as well as planting trees as a reforestation effort to prevent flooding. The results show that public knowledge about disaster management increased after being given health education to 77.8% and the remaining 22.2% had fairly good knowledge. After the simulation, the community's skills in evacuating disaster victims became better (82.2% had good skills). Community skills increased by 48.9% of people were able to do simple splint dressing after the simulation. After being given a wound care simulation, people's skills increased by 40% to become skilled at carrying out wound care. Health education and disaster management simulations need to be provided regularly by health workers through collaboration with DESTANA as a disaster prevention mitigation effort
