Get PDFTot op heden is er weinig bekend over de rituelen die in het openbaar Voortgezet Onderwijs (VO) in Nederland georganiseerd worden. In dit kwalitatieve, verkennende onderzoek richtten wij op rituelen op openbare scholen in het voortgezet onderwijs. Doel van ons onderzoek was omverschillende rituelen en hun functies in kaart brengen. De centrale onderzoeksvraag luidt als volgt: welke soorten rituelen zijn te vinden op middelbare scholen en welke functies hebben deze voor de schoolgemeenschap
What is a healthy social network?:Reflections on the social network advice
No full textIn late 2023, the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport launched an advisory on the social network that people need to avoid feeling lonely and to stay healthy. The advisory emphasizes the importance of the social network for health and includes suggestions for strengthening it. The advisory is presented in this paper. A qualitative formulation was chosen because there was not an unequivocal threshold value for a healthy social network. The social network advice was formulated by the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of the ‘Eén tegen Eenzaamheid’ (One against Loneliness) program. The authors of this article are members of the SAC

No full textTraumatische rouw omvat klachten van persisterende rouwstoornis, posttraumatische stressstoornis en depressie na verlies van een dierbare. Er is hierbij sprake van een preoccupatie met de overledene of de omstandigheden van het overlijden, een sterk gemis van of verlangen naar de overledene, met daarnaast regelmatig identiteitsverlies, ongeloof, vermijding, verlies van betekenis van het leven, gevoelens van verdoving, boosheid of schuld, intrusieve herinneringen, verhoogde prikkelbaarheid en reactiviteit en lijdensdruk en/of beperkingen in functioneren. Traumatische rouw kan optreden bij nabestaanden van een onverwacht of traumatisch verlies (door geweld, oorlog, ramp, suïcide of ontbreken van behandelmogelijkheden bij ziekte), waarbij onder andere het verlies van kind of partner, een hogere leeftijd, lager opleidingsniveau, rechtsgang na moord en migratieachtergrond het risico op klachten vergroten. Adequate diagnostiek, verwijzing en behandeling zijn van belang voor het individu, diens omgeving en de bredere samenleving. Beknopte eclectische psychotherapie voor persisterende en traumatische rouw (BEPPTG) kan door middel van psycho-educatie, exposure, symbolische interacties en betekenisgeving leiden tot aanzienlijke klachtenreductie en helpen om het verlies beter te integreren in het leven

No full textCitizen science projects are vulnerable to top-down directivity, and driven by assumptions of one-directional ambitions with regard to capacity building and knowledge production. Through the story of Ruth, we discuss how deep-seated legacies of inequality influence the politics of knowledge and explore what we, involved in citizen science projects, could learn from the politics of knowledge as it emerges from decolonisation struggles—particularly as manifested within the academy. Most universities are orientated around Western knowledge regimes that mute many other ways of knowing and ordering the world. Significant inroads have been made when writing on decolonising education but less is known about the effects of the colonisation of state institutions and the disturbances, interferences, and disruptions to organising, sharing, and creating knowledge in public spheres outside of these same universities. These disturbances affect the personal and collective histories of people so that when they are part of research linked to the university, their everyday lives become enmeshed with institutional hegemonies. Research is not dissociated from its deeply entrenched colonial roots. If decolonisation means going deeper into the legitimacy of knowledge and who and how this is being defined, then this must include the process of producing that knowledge outside the bastions of power

No full textTaking its starting point in the influential work of care ethicist Joan Tronto, this article critically examines the public/private divide within liberal political theory. This distinction not only conceals gendered power hierarchies in private life but also obscures mutual interdependencies from public view. Utilizing Palestinian embroidery as a companion to unlearn this division, the analysis explores three pivotal aspects of the craft. In the production process, the role of women, the voice of the embroiderers, and the treatment of materials and fabric emerge as vital concerns and active sites for change. Regarding curation, public exhibitions emerge as a means of preserving Palestinian cultural heritage but also contribute to the commodification of embroidered goods, challenging the deeply rooted geographical context of the craft. Concerning solidarity, the article elaborates the distinction between the private purchases of embroidered items and collective public action. A care ethics perspective underscores the interconnectedness of the private and public within a shared world. Embroidery becomes a metaphor for weaving a just and caring society, overcoming divisive boundaries
