UNDERSTANDING THE ROLE OF GRAIN BOUNDARY MIGRATION ON THE INITIATION STAGES OF PWSCC
Preferential Intergranular Oxidation (PIO) and Diffusion-Induced Grain Boundary Migration (DIGM) have been proposed as “precursor events” for Primary Water Stress Corrosion Cracking (PWSCC) in Ni-base Alloy 600. However, the direct link between the crack initiation sites and the “precursor events” PIO/DIGM has not yet been proven via experimental data. In this study, oxidation and stress corrosion cracking experiments were conducted on solution-annealed Alloy 600 in low pressure superheated H2-steam, an environment that it can accelerate the oxidation kinetics whilst maintaining the electrochemical potential relevant to Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) primary water. Advanced microstructural analysis techniques, including Focus Ion Beam (FIB) cross-section samples and Analytical Electron Microscopy (AEM), were used to characterize the samples after the SCC tests. The results showed that SCC initiated in the preferentially oxidized grain boundaries that had also experienced local solute redistribution associated with DIGM. The role of the DIGM and the PIO on the early stages of the PWSCC are discussed and the role of PIO and DIGM “precursor events” on the initiation stages of the SCC are proposed. <br/
The Central Star of Planetary Nebula PHR 1315-6555 and its host Galactic Open Cluster AL 1
PHR 1315-6555 is a rare case of a Galactic Planetary Nebula that is a proven member of the Open Cluster AL 1. This allows its distance to be defined with precision and thus the accurate measurement of its physical characteristics along with the parameters of its Central Star (CS). In this work we use HST to detect this unique CS and constrain the cluster’s physical parameters. Our results suggest that the cluster rests at a distance of 12 kpc, is highly reddened, and has an age of around 0.66 Gyrs and a turn-off mass of 2.2 M. Our deep Colour Magnitude Diagram (CMD) suggests that the metallicity of the cluster is subsolar (Z=0.006). Our photometric measurements indicate that the PN’s core is a faint blue star close to the nebular apparent centre, with an observed dereddened visual VEGA magnitude of 21.82 0.60. A significant contribution from any possible binary companion is unlikely but possible. Our results show that the CS has an effective Zanstra temperature of around 113 kKand a mass of 0.58M providing a unique additional point to the fundamental White Dwarf Initial-to-Final-Mass Relation

Customer experience in Business to Business: an empirical viewpoint
Purpose – To explore current business practices in a Business to Business (B2B) context and determine whether current customer experience frameworks suitably encompass the issues businesses are facing when trying to improve customer experience by using data.Design –Semi-structured interviews were conducted with seventeen interviewees from two case study companies. The companies were chosen by purposeful sampling and the interviewees were selected on the basis that they were involved with customers, data projects or both. Thematic analysis was performed on the interview scripts and reflective notes and on other data provided such as company background, project proposals and internal documents.Findings – The case study companies found that when trying to improve customer experience by using data, understanding a customer’s perception of value-in-use was difficult, increased levels of handholding and support were required, customers were reluctant to form a shared vision whilst demanding increased levels of service and new resource allocations were required. These factors of customer experience combined with the application of data projects are not currently explored in the literature.Research limitations/implications – The fieldwork covers two case study companies and focuses on projects which involve the application of data. The depth and coverage of the interviews provide a rich resource for understanding the current situation in these two companies, however the results cannot be generalised to theory. Practical implications – By understanding what is currently happening as B2B organisations strive to improve customer experience using data, researchers will be better placed to develop customer experience frameworks of practical use to companies in this specific situation and offer solutions to the business issues being faced. Social implications – by assisting companies in using data to enhance customer experience in B2B contexts, it is hoped that businesses will be able to take advantage of current and emerging technologies surrounding data to become more efficient, effective and profitable whilst delivering more relevant and timely goods and services to business customers. Originality/value – this paper extends the extant literature related to B2B customer experience by looking at the impact of data use on companies’ activities to enhance customer experience.<br/
Feasibility study of heart rate monitoring from ankle PPG data
Most smartwatches now integrate photoplethysmography (PPG) heart rate monitors. This research investigates whether similar approaches can be used to integrate PPG heart rate monitoring into smart footwear devices. Such wearables would offer several benefits compared to wrist-worn devices, with the potential to harvest more energy from the lower half of the body to make the device power autonomous and to have the device hidden in/under clothing

Challenges of Identity work in Africa’s Temporary Organisations:Developing Tsenay Serequeberhan’s horizons
African organizations are becoming more and more complex in terms of the identities of project managers (PM) and the organisational structure of temporary organisations. This creates interesting notions about project management in an African environment, and how this continuity mirrors the ever changing nature of the built environment. In this paper we develop an approach to ‘process ontology’ to explore questions of complex and conflictual identity work in an African context. We draw on Tsenay Serequeberhan’s idea of horizon as a key ingredient for interpreting identity in an African context. We demonstrate how the idea of horizon can lead to understanding of identity work in challenging and ever changing project environment. We argue that horizons as recognition of historicity and context are essential in the understanding of the processes and contours involved in identity work in an African construction project especially as influences of standards and standardisation cause tensions and disequilibrium to the African project manager. This paper therefore contributes to the understanding of identity work and demonstrates the importance of the work of Tsenay Serequeberhan
Reproductive life planning and contraceptive action planning for privately insured women:Main results from the MyNewOptions study
Context:Insured women benefiting from the Affordable Care Act (ACA)’s contraceptive coverage mandate may be well-positioned to respond to interventions designed to assist them in making personalized contraceptive choices, such as reproductive life planning and contraceptive action planning. Reproductive life planning is recommended by federal and clinical guidelines but has not been evaluated systematically for effectiveness.Methodology:In 2014, the MyNewOptions study randomized 984 privately insured women ages 18-40 and not intending pregnancy in the next year to web-based reproductive life planning (RLP); reproductive life planning with contraceptive action planning (RLP+); or information-only control. Any contraceptive use, prescription contraceptive use, method adherence, switching to a more effective method, method satisfaction, and contraceptive self-efficacy were assessed during the two-year follow-up period using binomial logistic regression, linear regression and GEE models. Results:Contraceptive use (94-95%) and high contraceptive adherence (72-76%) did not differ between the study groups during the two-year follow-up. Switching to a more effective method, method satisfaction, and contraceptive self-efficacy did not differ by group. Contraceptive use increased (from 89% at baseline to 96% at 2 years) and long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) use increased (from 8% at baseline to 19% at 2 years), but there were no differences by group allocation. Conclusions:The MyNewOptions study does not provide evidence that web-based reproductive life planning changes contraceptive behaviors in insured women outside of the clinical setting. Further research is needed to identify strategies that effectively provide reproductive-age women with better access to woman-centered contraceptive methods that meet individual needs and preferences.<br/
