OTT Platform and Dynamics for Contemporary Indian Theatre
Get PDFNeedless to say, Covid-19 pandemic has transformed the structural formations in various sectors the world over. Theatre is not an exception to it. The restrictions on public activities shifted directions from established ways to least familiar ways, and the rise of OTT grasped gazes and theatrical live performances of plays in theatre replaced by the performances on OTT or virtual platforms, no doubt it has given an alternative to the theatre industry to some extent. Has the OTT platform successfully assembled a genuine sense of theatrical aesthetic? This question often arises when the extensive popularity of OTT is witnessed everywhere. Likewise, is OTT a future of entertainment? The objective of this research article is to explain how digital streaming platforms have started showing their impact on Indian theatre in particular. How young minds are preferring this mode for entertainment. The gradual shift of presentation from stage to digital platform and its growing impact on theatre industry is the central argument of this paper. The research conducted in this relation comes with the findings that large numbers of viewers agree that over-the-top (OTT) platforms can be an actual menace to the theatre industry. There are a number of factors to claim that OTT is a threat and at the same time, one cannot reject that OTT has become the largely preferred medium in India and across the world for visual content. Theatrical dimensions have entirely altered with OTT since one can now watch digital performances conveniently on a laptop or mobile device. Additionally, the audio and visual quality, sound effects, and accessibility of forward and backward give extra and fascinating features. Plays are designed to be staged performances, and we all know that a play\u27s performance is its heart and soul. Live performances satisfy the stage\u27s requirements and are the lifeblood of the theatrical industry. These qualities are in reality, artistic and natural. Troubled West African Childhood and Child Soldiering in Ahmadou Kourouma’s Allah is not Obliged
Get PDFAhmadou Kourouma’s Francophone West African novel Allah n’est pas oblige (2000) may be reckoned as the earliest denouncement of child soldiering practice. The text came on French literary scene in 2000. Its English translation by Frank Wynne appeared in 2006 and the novel became known to the English world. Since its publication, the novel has garnered much attention from the literary scholars. Kourouma’s text describes the disastrous coming-of-age of Birahima who receives uneven development due to unhealthy African conditions. The present analysis of Kourouma’s text seeks to understand the stunted psychological, moral and social growth of Birahima in war conditions. His process of formation (actually deformation) can render the course of the development of the child soldiers in Africa. It can be said that Birahima’s character is affected by unfavourable familial, social and political conditions of West Africa. This leads him towards his moral aberration, and he has to become a child soldier. Being drug addicted, he kills many innocent people

Spanned over a period of fifty-seven years, the geo-political narrative traverses five countries showcasing the entwined lives of the three generations of the Weiss-Burtons and Tanaka-Ashrafs families, covering a vast expanse of history ranging from the Second World War to Guantanamo Bay. It chronicles the horrors of the Nagasaki bombing, the brutalities of the Partition of India and Pakistan, the paranoia around the nuclear race in the sub-continent, the Cold War and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and its response, and the aftermath of 9/11 New York. The novel is a critique of politics, conflicts, and violence. Shamsie critiques the maddening struggle between the power structures and their devastating consequences. The novel also delineates the fundamentalist notion of treating people with different worldviews as a threat. Hiroko Tanaka, the protagonist, is a warrior and a survivor who loses her world twice but rebuilds, only to lose it for the third time with her son’s capture.
