    Rydberg Energy Levels and Quantum Defects of some Semiconductor Elements

    Weakest bound Electron Potential Model Theory has turned out to be a successful theory in explaining many atomic properties, namely, energy levels, transition probabilities and oscillator strengths. The theory has also been used to calculate Rydberg energy levels and quantum defects. In this paper we studied semiconductor elements Boron and Silicon. We calculated energy levels of Rydberg atoms of Boron and Silicon up to n = 50 levels using WBEPMT. We also calculated quantum defects in principle quantum number for various configurations of these elements

    Mumtaz Qadri sentenced to death and Salman Taseer’s assassination were one of the conflicting religious issues of the country. In such conflicting environment dissemination of news through media has strong social and cultural influence on society. Daily express and Daily The Nation portrayed both issues with different angles and perceptions. This study relied upon method of content analysis of the two well-known Pakistani newspapers Daily Express and Daily The Nation. In this study researcher analyzed sixty two editions of the selected newspaper. The result of the study shows imbalance coverage on Salman Taseer and Mumtaz Qadri’s cases. Daily Express and Daily The Nation covered inadequately both the issues of religious tension that fuel more religious tension in the country and the nation is still curious between right and wrong. Both the newspapers have severely underestimated the severity of Mumtaz Qadri and Salman Taseer’s issue

    Relation between Luminosity and Surface Rotation of Spotted Stars

    This communications explores the existence of a possible relationship between Luminosity and surface rotation for the study of the evolution of spotted stars using the data of Kepler’s and DI spotted stars. For the determination of such a relationship between luminosity and rotation the dependency of rotational shear on effective temperature is to be reviewed first. The strong dependence of rotational shear on the effective temperature in the range of 3000K and 6000K is confirmed by a power law. This dependence in turn introduces rotation as an evolutionary parameter for the study of the evolution of spotted stars. Multivariate Linear regression, Log-Log multivariate and Nonlinear Multivariate (2, 2) Degree models are constructed to determine the Luminosity of Kepler’s and Doppler imaging spotted stars with rotational shear, relative differential rotation and radius as independent variables. In this regard Log-Log model and Nonlinear Multivariate (2, 2) Degree model is best suited as compared to the linear model. In the next stage Log-Log model is applied to the main sequence Kepler’s stars (excluding giants) and also to the stars in the individual spectral classes A, F, G, K, and M. The model appears best for main sequence stars and also for the stars in the individual classes F-M. Applying the model on DI spotted stars the standard errors indicate that the adequacy of the model for DI spotted stars data is weak.     Anti-Nematodal Efficacy of Ivermectin (Oral) and Extracts of Coriandrum sativum in Sheep in Barani Livestock Production Research Institute (BLPRI) Kherimurat, District Attak Punjab Pakistan

    Anthelmentic resistance (AR) is one of the major problems of livestock industry in developing countries. Using indigenous medicinal plants may be an alternate way to overcome this problem. Total 60 sheep nematode positive were selected and divided into 6 groups having 10 sheep each. Group A as un-treated control, group B was given Ivermectin at the dose rate of 0.2mg/kg body weight Group C and Group D was given the Chloroformic extract while Group E and F was given the Methalonic extract of Coriandrum sativum whole plant at the dose rate of 50 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg body weight respectively. After treatments, fecal eggs count reduction test (FECRT) (eggs/g) was carried out on day 7, 14 and 28. The EPG in untreated group at day 28 was increased 21.6%. Significant decrease in EPG was only observed at day 28 in Ivermectin treated group (92.6%) and Methanolic extract at a dose rate of 100 mg/kg body weight (60.69%). No significant results were recorded in remaining groups. It was concluded that 100 mg/kg body weight Methalonic extract of Coriandrum sativum would be a best alternative as anti-nematodal drug

    Schiff bases are substances prepared generally by the condensation reaction of aldehydes or ketones with amines. They may have substituted aliphatic or aromatic side chains, and hence show extensive biological activities. It is reported that these molecules play an important role in the synthesis of various drugs. This paper focus on the biological activities of Schiff bases of various types and hence makes them important precursors in designing drugs for medical treatment. The biological applications of Schiff bases can be extended from antimicrobial, plant growth regulator, antioxidant, enzymatic, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-malarial, antiviral, neuroprotective, analgesic, anti-convulsant to neurotoxic activities. They also serve as a dominant class of ligands with a variety of binding sites for coordination with metals

    Cardio-Nephroprotective Effects of Guava and Olive Leaves Extracts on Doxorubicin-Induced Toxicity in Rats

    Objective: Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anticancer drug that is known to increase oxidative stress in several organs. Our objective was to evaluate the possible cardioprotective and nephroprotective effects of guava leaves extract (GLE) and olive leaves extract (OLE) on DOX-induced toxicity in rats.Methods: Forty adult male albino rats were randomly divided into 4 groups of 10 rats each, as follows: a normal control group, a DOX group (a single dose of DOX; 30 mg/kg intraperitoneally), a GLE group (500 mg GLE/kg body weight), and an OLE group (500 mg OLE/kg body weight) for 12 d. DOX was administered in the DOX, GLE, and OLE rats, which were sacrificed 4 d after DOX administration.Results: DOX injection resulted in a significant elevation in serum lactate dehydrogenase, creatinin kinase-MB (CK-MB), total protein, urea, and creatinine. Cardiac as well as renal glutathione (GSH) and catalase (CAT) were significantly decreased, whereas tissue lipid peroxidation significantly increased. Pretreatment with GLE and OLE significantly reduced the elevated concentrations of serum lactate dehydrogenase, KC- MB, urea, creatinine and total protein (P < 0.05). GLE and OLE increased cardiac as well as renal GSH and CAT concentrations and decreased malondialdehyde concentrations.Conclusions: GLE and OLE showed promising protective effects against DOX-induced cardio-nephrotoxicity, which might be attributed to their antioxidant activities

    Alpha Mangostin and Xanthone from Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) Role on Insulin Tolerance and PPAR-γ in Preclinical Model Diabetes Mellitus

    Objective: This research elaborated role of alpha mangostin and xanthone on insulin resistance and peroxisome proliferator–activated receptor (PPAR)-γ by measuring blood glucose level and PPAR- γ expression on adipocyte cell culture. Methods: Insulin tolerance test were conducted using male wistar rat divided into 9 groups, which were normal, control (D-Glucose induced only), glibenclamide, various doses of a-mangostin and xanthone (5, 10, 20 mg/kgbw). All group induced by D-glucose 3 g/kg orally 30 minutes later. Blood glucose levels changes were observed at 90th and 150th minute. While other study observed PPAR-γ expression on adipocyte cell culture that treated with a-mangostin/xanthone/pioglitazone in various concentration. Results: KITT in all treatment groups were significantly different (p&lt;0.05) when compared to the positive control group, except xanthone 5 mg/kgbw. This suggests that a-mangostin 5, 10 and 20 mg/kgbw, xanthone 10 and 20 mg/kgbw, as well as metformin, have the effect of lowering insulin resistance in white rats given a 10-day fatty emulsion. Almost similar with thiazolinedione, alpha mangostin and xanthone increase PPAR-g expression in adipocyte when the concentration bigger. But xanthone effect not as good as α-mangostin or thiazolinedione effect. Conclusion: Alpha mangostin and xanthone are two substances that showed potential effect to improve insulin tolerance by increasing PPAR-g in adipocyte

    Two way Panel Causality Analysis for Degree of Trade Openness and Size of City

    The relationship between trade openness and economic size of city has long been a subject of much interest in international literature of trade. Trade Openness might increases the economic size of city by increasing the significance of transportation modes which are mostly present in urban areas and raising the demand for marketing, financing and communication. In contrast some literature argue that protectionism generates large cities as firms cluster in an urban area to minimize its unit cost via sharing of intermediate goods, labour pool and knowledge spill-over. Thus, there exist an important causal connection between the economic size of the city and its contribution in international trade. This paper is designed to explore these causal connections using panel causality analysis. The panel consists of fourteen major cities of Pakistan and 14 years commence from 1999-00 till 2012-13. The result affirms a positive two-way causal relationship between a cities\u27 economic size and its degree of trade openness
