From Recipe to Being: Philosophical Intertextuality in Rosario Castellanoss Cooking Lessons
This paper explores some threads of the broad network of intertextual relationships that Lecciones de cocina Kitchen Lessons by Mexican writer Rosario Castellanos establishes with the problem of intersubjectivity and selfawareness within the context of Simone de Beauvoir s existentialist philosophy Through the technique of the protagonist s stream of consciousness and the use of a recipe format to structure the narrative Castellanos reveals how women s identity is shaped by socio-cultural expectations that create a kind of prescribed and preordained essence dictated by the power structures of an androcentric society Lecciones de cocina engages in an intertextual dialogue with Beauvoir s The Second Sex which analyzes the situation of women in a patriarchal society where they have historically been defined and differentiated in relation to men Men are seen as the subject the essential the absolute while women are seen as the object the relative the Other and have been taught to perceive themselves through the male gaze The intertextual relationships in Lecciones de cocina with Beauvoir s existentialist philosophy are not explicit but suggest a deeper integration reflected in the subtext of a narrative that through the architext or the relationship between the text and the genre of the recipe implies a deconstruction that undermines the ideological assumptions of the traditional gender roles assigned to wome

Mental Health and Immigration: An Integrative Review with Notes on Attachment and Grief
This study presents an integrative review of scientific literature addressing the relationship between mental health and the immigrant experience The theoretical foundation is rooted in John Bowlby s Attachment and Grief Theory interwoven with contemporary contributions on psychological suffering in contexts of both forced and voluntary migration The bibliographic search involved a comprehensive screening across BVS LILACS BDENF INDEXPSI MEDLINE and IRIS databases using descriptors in Portuguese Spanish and English Inclusion criteria focused on empirical studies published between 2000 and 2025 that explore the nexus between migration and mental health The selected works were analyzed through four thematic axes prevalent psychopathological symptoms risk and vulnerability factors protective strategies and coping mechanisms and intersectional differences The findings reveal recurrent patterns of anxiety depression post-traumatic stress and prolonged grief often rooted in disrupted attachments unprocessed losses and a breakdown of belonging In contrast social support networks religious or spiritual frameworks and community integration emerged as stabilizing elements Migration more than a physical transition frequently entails a multilayered grieving process The study thus highlights the urgency of public policies and mental health practices that validate these losses and support culturally sensitive interventions Within this scope Attachment Theory offers a consistent conceptual framework to understand migrant distress and inform both clinical and institutional care strategie
Montaigne: A Precursor to Freud
Philosopher c est apprendre mourir Socrates 1 Montaigne 1533-1595 Was a man full of paradox a most mod ern thinker under the garb of one of the greatest 16th century philosophers See also Masud Khan 1975 Reading his essays I was impressed like others by his psychological mindedness and also that some 320 years before Freud he intuitively discovered many of the findings of psychoanalysis and the activity of the unconscious This paper aims at acquainting an analytically minded audience with the scope of Montaigne s discoveries as there are very few papers written about the essays by mental health professionals I discovered that there are over 300 references to his work in the Pep-web either in papers written which mention him in passing him or in articles quoting from his writings Yet there are only a handful of analytic papers devoted to his work mostly in the French analytic journals and only two articles in the English psychoanalytic literature Canestri 2009 and Wolf and Gedo 1975 though there are of course many books written about him in the classical literature section One of the most famous is Montaigne en Mouvement by Jean Starobinski 1982 which has been translated into Englis
