    Undergraduate Student’s Perspectives on E-learning during COVID-19 Outbreak in Sri Lankan Universities

    As education moves e-learning all over the world due to COIVD-19 pandemic, students spend more time on e-learning than ever before. This is also equally applied to the Sri Lankan education system. Thus this study examines the undergraduate students’ perspectives on e-learning during the COVID-19 outbreak in universities in Sri Lanka. Primary data was obtained from undergraduate students in Sri Lankan university using a structured questionnaire via Google form. The perspectives on e-learning education during the COVID-19 pandemic was investigated using descriptive statistics and frequency analysis. The majority of the undergraduate students felt that the e-learning version of education saved travel time and cost of accommodation. Furthermore, the study revealed that the majority of students were happy with the e-learning form of education during the pandemic since it allowed them to finish their degrees faster and access the labor market without a delay. The biggest challenges with e-learning, according to the student responses, were internet access, device availability, visionary issues, technical issues, and stress. As a result of this COVID -19 pandemic, if higher education officials in Sri Lankan universities want to keep e-learning education on going, they must focus on offering cost-effective, high-speed data connections while minimizing technological hurdles. At the same time, it is important to update and revise the curriculum content according to this new mode of education since this is a completely new situation for all. There is relatively little research on students’ perspectives on e-learning education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Sri Lankan context and it will provide some important highlights to the researchers, parent and academics as well

    Modified Electromagnetic Actuator for Active Suspension System

    Active suspension is a type of suspension systems which can vary its damping value in order to adjust the spring firmness in accordance with the road conditions. Real Active Suspension incorporates an external actuator which helps in raising or lowering of vehicle chassis independently at each wheel. Generally, the actuators that are used for active suspension are Hydropneumatic, Electro-hydraulic or Electromagnetic actuators. A new concept of two-way electromagnetic actuation with the help of magnetic damping is proposed in this paper, which can extend its arm on both sides to facilitate active suspension mechanism in both humps and potholes. This increases the ride quality while maneuvering not only in humps, but also in dumps. It also describes about the comparison of spring materials, sophisticated design, construction and working principle of newly proposed actuator. Catia V5 software has been used to design and simulate the actuator model, different spring materials are analyzed and their shear stress and deflections are compared

    NLP (Natural Language Processing) is a mechanism that helps computers to know natural languages like English. In general, computers can understand data, tables etc. which are well formed. But when it involves natural languages, it\u27s unacceptable for computers to spot them. NLP helps to translate the tongue in such a fashion which will be easily processed by modern computers. Financial Tracker is an approach which will use NLP as a tool and can differentiate the user messages in various categories. the appliance of the approach will be seen at multiple levels. At a personal level, this permits users to filtrate useful financial messages from an large junk of text messages. On the opposite hand, from an industrial point of view, this can be useful in services like online loan disbursal, which are hitting the market nowadays. These services attempt to provide online loans to individuals in an exceedingly faster and quicker manner. But when it involves business view, loan recovery from customers becomes a really important & crucial aspect. As most such services can’t take strict legal actions against the fraud customers, it becomes a requirement that loan should be provided only to those customers who deserve it. At that time, this model can come under the image. As a business we will find the user’s messages from their inbox (after taking permission from the users). These messages are often filtered using NLP which might help to differentiate various types of messages within the user\u27s inbox which might further be used as a content for further prediction and analysis on user’s behaviour in terms of cash related transactions

    Design and Analysis of Rotor Assembly of Hammer Mill Machine

    The project deals with the Manufacturing with Design and Analysis of Hammer Mill Machine and Rotor Assembly of Machine of Capacity of 200 Kg/hr. Which is due to providing the transmission power of 5 HP to the machine. In this project, the Hammer mill machine body structure, Angle Frame and foundation frame for machine is designed using Catia. Also each and every part or component is required for machine is designed. In the present work by using standard design procedures, Diameter of the rotor of shaft of machine has been designed. Theoretical calculations done by using PTC Mathcad software for new learning experience and ease. When the shaft of the rotor is rotated at the given speed (rpm i.e. 1728 rpm) and the load applied to the shaft it should not bend during rotation. When the shaft is rotated under free conditions deflections will be created due to critical speed of the shaft. After Designing process, some of required drawings are converted into Ansys supported format i.e. drawings are imported into Ansys for further analysis. Meshing of the shaft model was done and the loads, stresses that were applied for the shaft to be checked out that the design should be safe one. The design should be safe when the values obtained from the design procedure were compared with the standard values and result obtained from the analysis using Ansys. As per the designing, the required parts are fabricated such as side plates, bearing support, doors, hinge supports by using conventional methods like gas cutting, welding, drilling, shaft turning, slotting, milling, etc. and some hardware materials buy from stores which is used for further assembly process. At the final step all parts are assembled according as per requirements. At the end actual capacity of machine is calculated by using conventional method

    Performance Evaluation of a Triple Layer Electric Sieving Machine (TLESM)

    A multi-layer sieving machine is of multiplayer and highly efficient sieving machine that retains particles based on the difference in size. This study was carried out to evaluate the performance of a multi-layer electric sieving machine. The performance test of the machine was carried out in the Agricultural department farm of the Federal College of Forestry, Jericho Ibadan. The electrical sieving machine was used to carry out separation operations on a mixture of food crop materials at varying speeds. The machine passed the test of workability; it was able to perform the specific function of sieving and separating food materials of varying sizes. Mixed food materials were poured in the first layer of the mesh assembly and sieved. The time to completely separate the mixture into the three different layers was recorded and the respective weight of each layer was finally measured. Layer 1 had a mean weight gain of 0.42kg; layer 2 had a mean weight gain of 0.14 while layer 3 had a mean weight loss of 0.56kg when sieving was done for 5 minutes; at 7 minutes, Layer 1 had a mean weight gain of 0.1kg; layer 2 had a mean weight gain of 0.18 while layer 3 had a mean weight loss of 0.28kg, while at 10 minutes, the first layer had a mean weight gain of 0.06 kg, second layer also had mean weight gain of 0.02 while the third layer had a mean weight loss 0.08. The mean efficiency was highest at 99% in all the layers when sieving operation was carried out for 10 minutes and lowest at 96% for layer 3 when the machine ran for five (5) minutes. The effect of change in speed suggests that increment in sieving speed above 750rpm or below 300rpm gives a low efficiency

    Space exploration is brewing to be one of the most sought after fields in today’s world with each country pooling in resources and skilled minds to be one step ahead of the other. The core aspect of space exploration is exoplanet exploration, i.e., by sending unmanned rovers or manned spaceships to planets and celestial bodies within and beyond our solar system to determine habitable planets. Landscape inspection and traversal is the core feature of any planetary exploration mission. It is often a strenuous task to carry out a machine learning experiment on an extraterrestrial surface like the Moon. Consequent lunar explorations undertaken by various space agencies in the last four decades have helped to analyze the nature of the Lunar Terrain through satellite images. The motion of the rovers has traditionally been governed by the use of sensors that achieve obstacle avoidance. In this project we aim to detect craters on the lunar landscape which in turn will be used to determine soft landing sites on the lunar landscape for exploring the terrain, based on the classified lunar landscape images

In this paper, we look at five administered AI methods named Support vector machine (SVM), K-closest neighbours, irregular woodlands, fake/ Artificial neural organizations (ANNs). The performance of the study is measured with respect to accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision, negative predictive value.
