Évaluation taxonomique de Pyropia hiemalis (Kylin) Varela-Álvarez, Guiry & Serrão, comb. nov. (Bangiaceae, Bangiophyceae)

No full text
Until recently, all the bladed members of the Bangiaceae Duby were assigned to the genus Porphyra C.Agardh, nom. cons.; however, in the last twenty years, major molecular taxonomic revisions of this family have resulted in several new and reinstated genera. Porphyra linearis Greville is one of the species retained in Porphyra and its growth and reproduction is confined to the upper intertidal in the colder months of the year. Porphyra hiemalis Kylin was described for specimens collected from the south-west coast of Sweden but was later referred to the synonymy of P. linearis based upon its winter seasonality and linear form. We here compare the morphology and reproduction of isolates of both taxa from various locations in the NE Atlantic, and we sequence the intergenetic RUBISCO spacer and adjacent coding regions in these isolates to verify their phylogenetic relationships with other members of bladed Bangiaceae. Results show that both entities are not only distinct species despite almost identical external morphology, but they belong to different genera. A lectotype and epitype (of sequenced material) is designated for P. hiemalis and a transfer to the reinstated genus Pyropia J.Agardh is proposed as Pyropia hiemalis (Klyin) Varela-Álvarez, Guiry & Serrão, comb. nov.</p

A checklist is presented listing the 191 lichen species currently known from the Brazilian state of Goiás, and 120 lichen species currently known from the Brazilian state of Distríto Federal. As many as 113 species are new reports to the state of Goiás, 49 are new reports from Distríto Federal and one, Chapsa perdissuta Sipman & Lücking, is new to Brazil. The new records are based on identifications of material from our own field trips in this dry Cerrado region. The area, about the size of Germany, is one of the last large regions on Earth from which no comprehensive lists of lichens were ever published.</p

The waters off Borneo, the third-largest island in the world located at the geographic centre of Maritime Southeast Asia, harbour a high diversity of marine cestodes. We examined the tentaculariid species collection of the large-scale sampling endeavours in Malaysian Borneo between 2002 and 2008. Our study resulted in reporting the tentaculariid fauna of the region with greater detail, describing two new species, and erecting a new genus, Nybelinia pseudafricana n. sp. and Homeokotorella anterioporus n. gen., n. sp. A comparison of N. sphyrnae Yamaguti, 1952 from Malaysian Borneo, Australia, New Caledonia, and Japan revealed the synonymy of N. jayapaulazariahi Reimer, 1980 with N. sphyrnae. Remarks are provided for N. sphyrnae, N. aequidentata (Shipley & Hornell, 1906) Dollfus, 1930, Heteronybelinia estigmena (Dollfus, 1960) Palm, 1999, Tentacularia coryphaenae Bosc, 1802, Kotorella pronosoma (Stossich, 1900) Euzet & Radujkovic, 1989, and Kotorelliella (abbr. Ko.) jonesi Palm & Beveridge, 2002 and new host records are established for N. aequidentata and Ko. jonesi. Nybelinia aequidentata is reported for the first time from this region. Since most of the trypanorhynch species, including the tentaculariids, reported so far off Borneo are the same as those recorded off Indonesia, it seems that the trypanorhynch fauna of Borneo resembles the one from the Indonesian waters including to date 21 species (36%) of a total of 58 known tentaculariid species and 86 species (26%) of a total of 335 valid trypanorhynch species. These results allow us to better understand the species diversity of the tentaculariid trypanorhynchs off Malaysian Borneo.</p

No full text
Marine cyanobacteria are producers of structurally diverse secondary metabolites, many have intriguing biological properties. These compounds represent a series of different chemical entities, such as alkaloids, polyketides, peptides or mixed NRPS/PKS metabolites, exhibiting a variety of antifouling, anticancer, antimicrobial, allelopathic and anti-inflammatory properties. Nevertheless, cyanobacteria have been less used as sources of marine natural products when compared with sponges or macroalgae. Cyanobacteria studies in Caribbean marine waters are still scarce and scattered, but reveal an interesting diversity with a total of 76 genera and 119 species reported. The presence of cyanobacteria blooms in the Caribbean region has been observed with greater frequency, but their toxin profile and impact are scarcely understood. In the case of the Dominican Republic, there have been no reports on studies with cyanobacteria biotechnological applications. New strains are expected to be isolated from different Caribbean environments, contributing to our understanding of cyanobacterial biodiversity and their potential biotechnological applications.</p

No full text
The Late Jurassic (late Oxfordian) fauna from Cricqueboeuf (Normandy, France) is remarkable for its three-dimensionally fossilized crustaceans in carbonate and phosphate nodules, some even preserving eyes and ommatidia network. The crustacean fauna includes four species assigned to the Mecochiridae (Meyeria hurtrelleorum n. sp.), Glypheidae (Glypheopsis trouvillensis), and Erymidae (Eryma ventrosum, Enoploclytia sp.). A quantitative analysis based on 191 specimens shows that the fauna was dominated by Eryma ventrosum (46.6% of specimens) and Meyeria hurtrelleorum n. sp., (40.3%), which makes it unique in the fossil record of the Jurassic crustacean assemblages. Meyeria hurtrelleorum n. sp. is one of the oldest occurrences of the genus and its abundance at Cricqueboeuf is outstanding. The palaeoenvironment is interpreted as subtidal mud flats, where the soft substrate was favorable to the settlement and burrowing of both glypheid, mecochirid, and erymid lobsters. Most of the specimens may actually have been preserved directly inside their own burrow, ultimately infilled by reworking of the muddy bottom during detrital inputs.</p

Revision of the genus Sulciclivina Balkenohl, 2022 from Asia (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Clivinini)

The Oriental genus Sulciclivina is revised based on 770 specimens. Sulciclivina attenuata attenuata (Herbst, 1806), S. bhamoensis (Bates, 1892), S. striata striata (Putzeys, 1846), S. sulcigera (Putzeys, 1866), and S. sagittaria sagittaria (Bates, 1892) are redescribed. In order to maintain stability of the nomenclature, lectotypes have been designated for S. attenuata attenuata, S. bhamoensis, S. striata striata, and S. sagittaria sagittaria. The following twelve new taxa are described: S. attenuata semireticulata subsp. nov., S. striata kottea subsp. nov., S. coxisetosa sp. nov., S. basiangusta sp. nov., S. splendida sp. nov., S. mikirensis sp. nov., S. karelkulti karelkulti sp. nov., S. karelkulti medanensis subsp. nov., S. curvata sp. nov., S. oculiangusta sp. nov., S. andrewesi sp. nov., and S. sagittaria singaporensis subsp. nov. An identification key to the species is provided which includes the characterization of the two new species groups attenuata and sagittaria. All taxa are figured including male and female genitalia, if available. The available faunistic information is provided, and distribution records are displayed on a map.</p

A taxonomic review of the endemic Mexican genus Ceratotrupes Jekel, 1865 (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae: Ceratotrupini), with the description of an unexpected new species from the Sierra Madre del Sur

No full text
In this study, we revise the taxonomy of the endemic Mexican genus Ceratotrupes Jekel, 1865. It comprises three species, distributed in the Sierra Madre Occidental and Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt (Ceratotrupes fronticornis (Erichson, 1847) and Ceratotrupes bolivari Halffter & Martínez, 1962), and the Sierra Madre del Sur (Ceratotrupes sturmi (Jekel, 1865)). We confirm C. mniszechi (Jekel, 1865) as a junior subjective synonym of C. sturmi. The examination of the holotype of C. sturmi and specimens recently collected in the Sierra Sur de Oaxaca (Oaxaca) and Omiltemi (Guerrero) allowed us to identify and describe a new species, Ceratotrupes gonzaloi sp. nov. from Omiltemi, Guerrero. We redescribe the morphology of C. sturmi and provide a diagnostic key to the four members of the genus Ceratotrupes. Photographs of the habitus and male genitalia of the four species, a distribution map, and observations on their ecology and biogeography are provided.</p
