Melodic journeys: How place distinctiveness perception of destination songs inspires information-seeking behavior

    No full text
This study pioneers a novel approach to sensory marketing by unveiling the unexplored impact of auditory stimuli—specifically destination songs—on tourists' pre-travel behaviors, such as information-seeking behavior. The purpose of the research is to investigate how perceived place distinctiveness, conveyed through music, influences both the cognitive simulation of travel experiences and emotional connection to the destination. Using The Song of Xi'an People as a case study, the study adopts a survey-based methodology to examine the mediating roles of process simulation and destination interest, as well as the moderating effect of information richness. Unlike traditional studies that emphasize visual stimuli, this research highlights the unique power of sound in evoking both cognitive and emotional engagement. Furthermore, it challenges conventional assumptions about information richness by showing that the effectiveness of auditory marketing stems from emotionally immersive content rather than the volume of cultural details presented. The results demonstrate that such immersive musical content significantly enhances curiosity and behavioral intention. The implications of this study are twofold: it advances theoretical discourse in sensory and destination marketing and offers practical insights, enabling destination marketers to strategically harness music to evoke emotional resonance, ignite curiosity, and foster meaningful pre-travel engagement in a highly competitive global tourism landscape.

Gender differences in sleep behaviors under China's universal two-child policy

    No full text
Since 2016, China has progressively relaxed family planning policies to stimulate birth rates. This paper examines the behavioral health repercussions of China’s 2016 universal two-child policy (UTCP) by analyzing sleep pattern data from China Family Panel Studies. Napping is a composite indicator that denotes health outcomes, job quality, and personal well-being. It reveals work conditions and environments to some extent. UTCP may lead to heightened social expectations regarding pregnancy likelihood, and changes in social expectations within the workplace may make work environments less equitable and more stressful for females. Leveraging a difference-in-difference model, this paper explores how napping behaviors among the working-age cohort have responded to the policy shifts. Our analysis reveals a gender discrepancy in response to the policy, specifically, females exhibit a discernible reduction in the likelihood of napping, as well as in the duration of both daytime naps and daily sleep. Conversely, such effects are not significant among males. These results suggest policy consequences extend beyond individuals directly impacted by childbirth or contemplating parenthood. Hence, while promoting fertility is still the government’s goal, policymakers are encouraged to consider the broader challenges the female population faces from social and workplace environment factors.

Integrating green transformational leadership, green HRM, and green Innovation to enhance sustainable performance in hotels: Insights from PLS-SEM, NCA, and cIPMA

    No full text
Research background: As environmental concerns rise globally, an increasing number of hotels are implementing sustainable performance (SP) management practices, making sustainability a strategic priority in the hospitality industry. These efforts aim to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility. Although SP strategies are widely embraced, the mechanisms through which Green Transformational Leadership (GTL), Green Human Resource Management (GHRM), and Green Innovation (GI) synergistically influence SP remain insufficiently explored. Purpose of the article: This study aims to investigate how GTL and GHRM practices cultivate employees’ internal capabilities to foster GI, thereby enhancing SP within the hotel industry. Guided by the resource-based view and ability–motivation–opportunity theories, this research addresses a critical gap in existing studies by examining the complex relationships among GTL, GHRM, GI, and SP with a unique hybrid methodological approach, and offers comprehensive insights into how these constructs jointly shape sustainability outcomes in hotels. Methods: Adopting a quantitative, survey-based research design, data were collected from 310 employees across 17 three- to five-star hotels in Taiwan via a 5-point Likert-type-scale questionnaire. SmartPLS 4 facilitated the analysis. The methodological approach was combined with partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), necessity-based logic via necessary condition analysis (NCA), and combined importance-performance map analysis (cIPMA). Findings & value added: PLS-SEM results indicate GTL, GHRM, and GI significantly influence hotels' SP. GHRM and GI exert a sequential co-mediating effect on the GTL–SP relationship; however, GTL's direct impact on GI is not significant. NCA confirms all predictors are necessary conditions for SP. With an SP target of 85, cIPMA quantifies the minimum thresholds necessary to enhance SP as 31.464% for GHRM, 41.902% for GI, and 53.705% for GTL. This study enriches sustainable hospitality literature by exploring the GTL–GHRM–GI–SP nexus. It contributes a multi-method integrated PLS-SEM, NCA, and cIPMA model to sustainability research, integrating sufficiency and necessity logics. It offers theoretical insights into the interplay of GTL, GHRM, and GI, and provides practical strategies for hoteliers’ SP.

A theory-based study on the vaccination behaviors of breast cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan

    No full text
The study aimed to expand the behavioral analysis of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to examine COVID-19 vaccine willingness among breast cancer patients. While both the WHO and the U.S. CDC have utilized adapted versions of the Increasing Vaccine Model to study vaccination trends across various populations and industries, limited research has explored vaccine acceptance in specific groups such as breast cancer patients. From May to July 2022, an online cross-sectional study was conducted in Taiwan, coinciding with the initial COVID-19 vaccination rollout. A total of 278 participants were included in the statistical analysis. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was employed to assess the conceptual validity of the measurements and test the proposed model. The analysis revealed that the model explained 36.8% of the variance in patients’ willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and 40.3% of the variance in predicting future vaccination behaviors based on regret following vaccination. Fear of COVID-19 was found to indirectly influence vaccination willingness through shared decision-making, highlighting the importance of discussions between patients and their physicians. Patients who had more opportunities to consult with their doctors were more inclined to get vaccinated. Moreover, fear of COVID-19 enhanced the trust breast cancer patients placed in their physicians. However, decision conflicts and shared decision-making impacted vaccine willingness independently and directly, rather than through the mediating effect of trust in physicians. Furthermore, the study confirmed that patients who hesitated to get vaccinated were more likely to experience regret. These findings provide valuable insights into the behavioral aspects of vaccination among cancer patients, offering strategies to mitigate fear and improve preventive health measures.

ESG, Market Microstructure, and Herding Behavior: Evidence from CSAD Tests in Taiwan

    No full text
This study examines how ESG transparency and market microstructure reform shape herding behavior in Taiwan's equity markets. Using nonlinear CSAD models, we find that low-ESG firms exhibit stronger herding, especially in the OTC market and during market stress. The 2020 shift to continuous trading further amplifies herding among low-ESG firms. Return-dispersion decomposition shows that this convergence is mainly intentional and driven by noise trading. High-ESG firms display consistently weaker herding, underscoring the informational value of ESG. Overall, ESG transparency helps mitigate behaviorally induced co-movements and enhances market efficiency.

Mathematical Modeling and Optimization of Sustainable Production–Inventory Systems Using Particle Swarm Algorithms

    No full text
This research examines a multinational supply chain inventory problem involving one manufacturer and multiple retailers across a range of carbon emission combinations and an incomplete production system. It aims to identify the optimal strategies for material use, production, delivery, replenishment, and pricing to maximize the integrated total profits under various situations. Three particle swarm optimization techniques are used to solve all the models. Numerical examples and sensitivity analyses on parameter changes are provided. The findings indicate that in a multinational supply chain, currency appreciation in individual retailers’ countries decreases their optimal order quantities and the manufacturer’s optimal material purchase quantity, but increases the optimal quantity for other retailers. In summary, this study offers valuable guidance to enterprises and supply chain decision-makers, especially those operating in a multinational framework, aiming to effectively balance carbon reduction and profitability within the context of global trends in carbon emission reduction.
