The Pandemic's Effect on Sino–Thai Relations and Chinese-Thai Businessmen

    No full text
This study examines Sino–Thai relationships in the context of the developmental state theory and the dependent developmental theory focusing on the pre- and post-pandemic eras of the Belt and Road Initiative, Thailand 4.0, and the Eastern Economic Corridor (eec). The study finds that prior to the outbreak of covid-19, Thailand chose to pursue both dependency theory and developmental state theory. However, after the pandemic, Thailand faced severe democratic erosion, and Bangkok decided to follow the path of dependency theory, ultimately relying heavily on Chinese assistance, leading to disappointment throughout the country. These issues have exacerbated anti-Chinese and anti-Chinese-Thai–conglomerate sentiments, as many believe that Thai government reliance on Chinese support was influenced by the lobbying efforts of Chinese-Thai businessmen. These sentiments have become a feature of student protests and the Milk Tea Alliance. This indicates that the close relationship between Thai elites and Beijing is not shared by many Thais, and suggests that the Thai government should reconsider its development strategy. Additionally, both Chinese and Chinese-Thai businessmen should be aware of the path chosen by the Thai government and its effects on their business interests.補正完畢TW

TOPSIS Sorting with Optimized Cutoff Values

    No full text
Many real-world decision problems require sorting alternatives into ordered classes, and often they involve multiple measures, making them multi-criteria sorting problems. Previous research on applying TOPSIS (The Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) to these practical problems has focused on proposing criteria weights and computing relative closeness, obtained by comparing distances of alternatives to the positive and negative ideal solutions. However, the issue of how to determine the cutoff values has not been attacked before. We propose a general approach to determine optimized cutoff values, with objective weights for the TOPSIS sorting process. These cutoff values are obtained by minimizing the sum of deviations for randomly selected representative alternatives of neighboring classes. The procedure is demonstrated using two public datasets. It is then analyzed and compared with previous research and traditional data mining techniques, and the results demonstrate that TOPSIS is an effective tool for ordered sorting.補正完畢TW

Digital information evaluation skills among students in higher education

    No full text
Despite the advancement of technology in the internet age, many college students lack the information and communication technology (ICT) literacy skills like evaluating which is necessary to navigate and using information available at present. Evaluating the quality of information sources encompasses students’ ability to determine relevance, accuracy, and overall credibility of sources and information. The quality of information found online is extremely variable because anyone can post data on the internet, and not all online sources are equally reliable, valuable, or accurate. From a study conducted on diploma students’ assignments using rubric at an international university in Kuala Lumpur, a problem in digital information evaluation skills and lack of ability in using evaluation criteria, including authority, accuracy, currency, objectivity, and coverage on digital information and sources among diploma students had been discovered. The future work of this study will be the use of mobile devices in collaborative and interactive learning to improve digital information evaluation skills among diploma students. This approach does not only improve the students’ learning attitude, but also enhances the effectiveness of learning.補正完畢MY

Gender difference on the mediation effects of filial piety on the association between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and depressive symptoms in older adults: A community-based study

    No full text
Filial piety is viewed as strong family support for older Chinese people, and strongly associated with depressive symptoms. It is unknown if there exists gender difference in the mediation effects of filial piety on the relationship between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (manifested as lung function) and depression. We investigated whether filial piety mediates the association between lung function and depression in community-dwelling older men and women using the Healthy Aging Longitudinal Study in Taiwan (HALST). Community dwelling adults aged 65 and above were analyzed. Pulmonary function, depressive symptoms, and filial piety expectation (FPE) and receipt of filial piety (RFP) were collected. The interaction and mediation of filial piety between lung function and depression was analyzed. We found that in older men, forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1) was inversely correlated with depression (β = -0.1281, p = 0.004) with no mediation effect of FPE. In older women, FEV1 was negatively associated with FPE, but FPE did not increase the risk of depression (β = 0.0605, p = 0.12). In both older men and women, FEV1 was negatively associated with RFP, while RFP reduced the risk of depression (p< 0.001). In older women, the correlation between FEV1 was complete mediation of RFP. Results indicate that feelings of insufficient filial piety may increase the likelihood of depression, especially in elderly women with worse lung function. Although modest, the main mediation effect of filial piety was improvement of lung function in older subjects, which might decrease depression.補正完畢US

    長期性資產評價方法的風險意涵

This study examines whether firm managers' choice of valuation methods for long-lived assets between fair value and historical cost affects firm risk. Using a sample of 95 UK listed firms and 754 firm-year observations during the period of 2003 to 2010, we find evidence that, on average, fair value accounting for long-lived assets induces a higher level of systematic risk, relative to historical cost accounting in the pre-IFRS adoption period. In the post-IFRS adoption period, firms choosing fair value accounting have a higher level of positive changes in systematic risk than their counterparts using historical cost accounting. Overall, these findings imply that given a set of costly accounting standards, fair value accounting for non-financial assets needs further considerations.補正完畢TW

Growth inhibition and toxicity assessments of cis-3,4-diaryl-α-methylene-γ-butyrolactams in cultured human renal cancer cells and zebrafish embryos

    No full text
This study aimed to compare and evaluate the growth inhibition effects of eight previously synthesized compounds, cis-3,4-diaryl-α-methylene-γ-butyrolactams (compounds 1-8), on two human renal carcinoma cell (RCC) lines: CRL-1932 (rapid growth) and HTB-44 (slow growth). MTT assays and flow cytometry were conducted, revealing that compounds 5 and 6 had the potential to induce cell death in the slow-growing RCC cells (HTB-44), while compound 8 demonstrated effectiveness in both RCC lines (HTB-44 and CRL-1932). Additionally, a non-transformed HEK293 cell line and a transgenic zebrafish with a green fluorescent kidney Tg(wt1b:egfp) were used to assess the toxicities of compounds 5, 6, and 8. The findings suggested that compound 8 was relatively non-toxic compared to the others. Western blot analysis indicated that compounds 5, 6, and 8 may interact with the P53/mTOR pathways. Based on these results, we concluded that compound 8 exhibits RCC growth inhibition properties and has lower toxicity, making it a candidate for further investigation in mammalian models.補正完畢GB

An App-based Carpool Mechanism to Mitigate Traffic Congestion for Science Park Commuters

    No full text
Carpooling, an eco-friendly transportation option, has long been overlooked in Taiwan partially due to the absence of a tool facilitating rides with similar travel needs. This research addresses this gap by developing an app for real-time carpool matches. The process contains three steps: 1) Users sign up for the app with personal information, and the genetic algorism determines a fitness value based on the routing cost and user preferences such as interaction, dining, and smoke odor in the car; 2) After posting individual carpool demands, users receive a system-suggested carpool match; 3) The app generates a carpool fee with a discount for additional passengers, employing second-degree price discrimination. This app creates a mutually beneficial scenario: drivers earn a fee ranging from the public transit fare C as the price floor to 2.8C as the ceiling, covering gas costs and freeway tolls; passengers pay up to C and receive a 10% discount with an additional co-rider. The app and supporting measures propose a mechanism to alleviate traffic congestion in Taipei's science park corridor.補正完畢TW
