Advancing Personal Learning Using the Internet of Things: Creating Bonds for Societal Inclusivity
Personal learning is a unique ability and requires self-determination to master. Personal learning also involves constructing representational learning artifacts that are used across life into work and society. Using avatars to foster identity within collaborative virtual environments (CVEs) can represent expressions of selfhood useful for participating in diverse communities. The Internet of Things (IoT) provides a spectrum of emerging technologies that can connect physical and virtual world activities resulting in new realms of human-computer abilities. Interconnected smart devices automate services and provide timely information resulting in safety, security, and efficiencies, especially for vulnerable populations such as persons with disabilities. The relationship is explored when IoT applications are combined with use of CVEs, avatars, and a discipline of presencing. Inclusivity becomes probable. Future research is described how individuals, organizations, and communities can be impacted by personal learning influenced by the inevitable growth of IoT and virtual learning
Understanding Knowledge Sharing in an Organization: A Perspective of Actor-Network Theory
This paper set out to propose the actor-network theory (ANT) as a lens through which to understand and interpret the sociotechnical knowledge sharing challenges in organisations. The methodology for this study was developed within the context of ANT by adopting its ideals and principles. The findings demonstrate that using the concept of the Moments of Translation as a lens to study this phenomenon is indeed a novel way of investigating the reason why there is still difficulty with sharing and managing knowledge. This perspective is proposed to transform the way that knowledge sharing factors are perceived. By utilising a normative approach, this research looked at how knowledge sharing as an ideal can be achieved when taking into account the existing constraints within an organisation. A general framework is proposed to guide the formation of a network of aligned interest for knowledge sharing
Health Consensus: A Digital Adapted Delphi for Healthcare
New tools are needed to facilitate the involvement of health professionals in healthcare participative processes, partially because a relevant segment of healthcare knowledge and decision-making is capillary distributed among them. A collaborative design strategy has been applied to the creation of an Internet tool to produce digitally adapted Delphi for healthcare purposes. During the period 2012-16 the prototype of the tool has been gradually improved through its application to 18 real cases. It is proposed the model Health Consensus as a digitally adapted Delphi supported by the various capabilities of Internet. The authors agree that Health Consensus is a useful and expandable tool for participative processes. The Internet provides several opportunities to overcome many of the limitations of conventional Delphi, as well as improving the final studies with new functionalities
Homo Neuroeconomicus: A Review of Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of Game Trials on Economic Choice
This paper discusses the development of a neuroeconomic model of decision-making (DM). The method used was a review of functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of game trials on economic choice. Key centers in economic DM are Ventromedial Prefrontal Cortex, Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex, Frontopolar Cortex, Orbitofrontal Cortex, Anterior Cingulate Cortex, Amygdala and Ventral Tegmentum. The interaction of these centers determines individual risk-preference (NeM). The validity of NeM is consolidated by lesion-studies. NeM shows that relaxation exercises are complementary to physical fitness in the maintenance of mental health. Further, NeM explains the effect of “Early home-supported discharge” and how chess games support the learning of mathematics
Mathematical Models of Desire, Need, Attention, and Will Effort
According to Spinoza, “Love is nothing else but pleasure accompanied by the idea of an external cause”. Author proposes that desire is nothing else but a change of pleasure accompanied by the idea of its cause, that terms ‘desire', ‘want' and their cognates describe change of the pleasantness of the state of a subject (PSS in short) associated with X, that if change of PSS is positive/negative, then X is called desirable/undesirable correspondingly. Both positive and negative desires can be strong, so strength of desire characterizes its magnitude. Need of X is defined here as a cyclical desire of X that gets stronger/weaker with dissatisfaction/satisfaction of its need. Author also explores an idea that the stronger is desire of X by a subject, the more attention this subject pays to X. Distribution of attention and influence on it by the will effort are analyzed in this paper
Enterprise System as Business Intelligence and Knowledge Capabilities for Enhancing Applications and Practices of IT Governance
According to different views in information systems and the socio-technical perspective, many organizations was led to redefine their business with a more focused IT solutions, this study suggested a number of confirmatory measurement models that establish the ground for the hypothesed research constructs, and utilized the structural equation modeling techniques to test and validate the research hypotheses. The research present the results of a practical investigation of the influence and the effect of enterprise systems role applications and organizational knowledge capabilities on IT governance practices by enhancing its application and usability within the organization. The study suggests that smart enterprise systems capabilities (infrastructure scalability, planning alignments, and HR planning and professional capabilities the IT staff) and knowledge organizational capabilities (individual, managerial, and collaborative) have a positive dynamic influence on IT governance activities. It's also observed that enterprise systems role applications have a more profound influence on organizational knowledge capabilities (OKC) comparing to IT governance (ITGOV), where OKC played a significate additive role in mediating the effect and thus provided an enhanced extra effect on IT governance
Defining and Designing Responsive Online Professional Development (ROPD): A Framework to Support Curriculum Implementation
Teacher professional development programs typically do not meet teachers' ongoing, long-term needs that arise. In this chapter, the authors forward a systematic framework called responsive online professional development (ROPD) that can be used by instructional designers to provide continuous, online PD for teachers in the service of curriculum implementation fidelity. The systematic process afforded by the ROPD framework promotes teachers' reflection on their individual classroom practice as they implement new curricula or standards and provides support to teachers as they are implementing new curricula, standards, and pedagogies. Design elements of the proposed ROPD framework are discussed by the authors, and an illustrative example of the implementation and observed outcomes of a previously enacted ROPD Program (GE2PD) are discussed. When compared to conventional PD programs, professional growth from ROPD is emphasized during the implementation process through a systematic approach that intentionally connect teachers with the instructional designers of a curriculum
The Utilization of a Formalized Complaint Management System as a Communication Tool to Foster Student Success
The field of Higher Education is experiencing a revolution spurred on by the expanding frontier of technology. Leaders of higher education institutions seek to improve student communication processes which will positively impact the student experience. Effective communication strategies are needed which can effectively be used in times of conflict at institutions of higher education. This quantitative study examined a series of predictors, both individually and collectively, as they related to the number of additional classes students completed after the conflict had occurred
Impact of Outbound Logistics in Purchase Decision of Small Electronic Home Appliance Traders in Chittagong
Outbound logistics focuses on the distribution to the point of sales, such as - collection, storage, and distribution systems etc. Marketers must understand – what the customer wants in terms of logistics and how it can create value to the customers? Based on this scenario, this study focuses on the fact that lack of understanding about the elements of outbound logistics is leading to lack of identifying it as value creation tool to impact the purchase decision in home appliances industry. In total around 490 home appliance traders is selected based on convenience from Chittagong city and interviewed based on a questionnaire in May 2016. Factor Analysis is used to identify the most relevant factors from 14 variables and then a regression analysis is used to show how each of those factors related to outbound logistics in small home appliance sector is impacting the purchase decision. The outcome is the trader's purchase decision equation which a marketer can use to identify the elements of outbound logistics where he can focus more to strengthen his logistics channel
Rule Based Replacement of Pronoun by Corresponding Noun for Bangla News Documents
The object of this research work is to replace pronoun by corresponding noun for Bangla news documents. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first initiative to solve the problem of dangling pronoun where corresponding noun is not available. If the information retrieval procedures extract any sentence with dangling pronoun, it may raise confusion to the user. To mitigate this problem, a method has been proposed here by using general and special tagging, dependency parsing, full name identifying and finally pronoun replacing. For achieving the target of this method, 3000 Bangla news documents have been analyzed and some grammar books have been studied. Seven knowledgeable persons in the arena of Bangla language also helped us in this research work. Finally, the proposed method shows 71.80% accuracy in the evaluation for replacing pronoun
