    Customer Relationship Management and Marketing Performance of Nigerian Commercial Banks

    This study investigates the influence of customer relationship management (CRM) on marketing performance of commercial banks in Nigeria. CRM is seen as a key component of a strategy that centred on delivering greater value to customers through high-quality products and services and a willingness to meet their needs. To acquire information from bank managers and consumers of chosen banks, the researchers used a questionnaire survey and observation. A semi-structured interview with bank management and customers was used to enhance the approaches. Statistical approaches were used to analyze the data. According to the findings of the studies, the majority of respondents agree that efficient customer relationship management affects the marketing performance of Nigeria commercial banks. The study concluded that due to stiff competiveness of the industry and the drive for marketing efficiency, there is a need to establish a strong and effective CRM practices which will ensure that existing customers are retained while attracting new customers

    Examining the Relationship between Parental Involvement and Workers’ Income in Katsina State

    This study examined the relationship between parental involvement and workers’ income Using a cross-section of civil servants, staff of secondary schools and youths in Katsina State, Nigeria, parental involvement indicators were regressed on income, using the ordinary least squares regression technique. The results indicate a statistically positive relationship between parental involvement and income, for all parental involvement indicators. Male workers were found to earn a significantly higher income than their female counterparts. Age and being married were positively related to income, but did not have a statistically significant effect on income. The level of education was positively related to income and statistically significant. Personal positive attributes which contribute to academic progress were found to be positively related to income while the negative attribute indicator was inversely related. Parental involvement policies are recommended as foundation for improving the future income of workers

    Healthcare Seeking Behavior and Utilization of Maternal Healthcare Services among Women of Reproductive Age in Northwest, Nigeria

    Maternal health outcomes and indicators in Northwest, Nigeria are some of the worst in the world, with many women and girls losing their lives or becoming incapacitated as a result of pregnancy and childbirth complications. Maternal morbidities and mortalities are preventable with the availability and regular utilization of functional maternal healthcare services. As one of the major determinants of the utilization of maternal healthcare services, maternal health seeking behavior goes beyond individual decision, but a complexity of socio-cultural and economic factors determining women’s utilization of such services in the Northwest. Relying on literature on the health seeking behavior of women in the region, this paper offers theoretical and contextual explanations for women’s low utilization of maternal healthcare services in the region. The Northwest region is a predominantly Hausa and Muslim society, with a culture that is entwined and guided by the Islamic injunctions. Lack of autonomy in decision making, high adherence to cultural belief and practices, illiteracy, distance and poor access to maternal healthcare services are among the major factors impeding utilization of maternal healthcare services among women in the region. The paper thus, recommends that, in addition to making education more accessible to lactating women, interventions towards increasing utilization of maternal healthcare services must inevitably target husbands, being the key actor in determining healthcare seeking behavior within the households

    Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Anti-Corruption Crusade in Nigeria: Success and Challenges

    This study examine the success and Challenges of EFCC in anti-corruption crusade in Nigeria. In this paper we examine the EFCC effort in anti-corruption crusuade with more concerns on public sector and political leaders. Examination of the literature shows that though the commission was unable to win majority of its cases due to its incompetence in its investigation and presentation of corruption cases before the court of justice, yet EFCC has secured a number of cases and recovered billions of Naira from corrupt officials in Nigeria. The study concludes by recommending the need for EFCC to be more sophisticated and honest in its investigation and prosecution of corruption cases

    The Role of Cooperative Societies in Poverty Alleviation among Crop Farmers in Benue State, Nigeria

    Poverty has remained endemic among small scale farmers in rural areas of most developing societies including Nigeria. The failure of government designed alleviation strategies to bring the desired succour to the suffering rural populace has presented cooperative societies as a strong and viable channel for rural and agricultural transformation. It is against this backdrop that the study investigated the role of cooperatives in reducing poverty among crop farmers in Benue State. The study specifically assessed some roles of cooperatives in poverty reduction as well as challenges militating against cooperatives. This paper utilized secondary data obtained from textbooks, research reports, journals and internet sources. The collective Action theory was used to guide the study. The paper revealed the roles of cooperative societies in poverty alleviation among crop farmers to include but not limited to providing credit at low interest rate, providing goods and services at low cost, expunging the exploitation of the middlemen, protecting the rights of the less privileged, protecting the rights of producers and consumers; and sensitizing and educating members of cooperatives. Challenges identified as hampering these roles include low education and illiteracy of members, low capital base, high interest rates, lack of access to farmland; poor management style, small membership and lack of adequate government support which affects the management of cooperatives. The paper concluded that cooperative societies have impacted crop farmers in Benue State positively, although much is desired to be done. In the light of the above it was recommended that farmers should be timely provided with farm inputs and services; adequate awareness campaign should be created to ensure that farmers join cooperative societies

    oai:ojs2.gijmss.com.ng:article/1The study sought information on the reproductive opinion of people living with HumanImmunodeficiency Virus (PLWHIV) toward getting pregnant in Edo State, Nigeria. A crosssectional study design was used in this study. Purposive sampling method was used to sampleHIV positive patients using the study centres. The instrument for data collection for this studywas a self-structured questionnaire and the reliability of the instrument was computed (0.84)using Cronbach alpha coefficient. The total population for this study was 734 and the samplesize was determined by YaroYamene sample size calculation. A total of 285 participants wererecruited for the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0Result: Study revealed that 201 respondents representing (72.56%) said they have intention toget pregnant, 61 respondents representing (22.02%) said that they do not know if they hadintention of getting pregnant while 15 respondents representing (5.42%) stated that they do nothave intention of getting pregnant. Majority of the respondent utilize contraceptives and thereis a significant association between education and intention to get pregnant among PLWHIV

    Human Trafficking and Sexual Abuse: Evidence from Female Libya Returnees in Edo State, South-South Nigeria

    Human trafficking which is arguably one of the biggest organized crime in the World today has been generating increased global attention and condemnation especially since the beginning of the 21st century because of its dehumanization and exploitative nature. Nigeria has been identified as one of the countries largely involved in this ignominious criminal industry with considerable numbers of her citizens frequently falling prey as victims. This study based on evidence and shared experience from selected female victims of human trafficking returned from Libya by the joint efforts of the Nigeria government and the International Organization of Migration (IOM) explains the harrowing experience the victims go through. In-depth interview was conducted with thirty nine (39) purposively selected female Libya returnees of Edo State origin between January and March 2018. Findings reveal that the victims were sexually abused; fell prey to exploitative labor; engaged in unavoidable ‘survival sex’; had unwanted pregnancies and fatherless children. It is recommended, amongst others, that concerted efforts by the government and other stakeholders to work assiduously to lunch a vigorous campaign against gender discrimination and other cultural and societal attitude that portray women and girls as second fiddle and sexual instrument. Full implementation of the anti-trafficking laws to bring traffickers’ to book will address some of the major drivers of trafficking

    Weak-Form Efficiency of the Nigerian Capital Market: Prior and Post Internationalization Periods

    The Random Walk approach was employed to test the Weak-Form Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH) in the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE); prior and post internationalization periods. Secondary 30-day data was secured from the statistical database of Central Bank of Nigeria and the NSE fact book of various publications covering 1981-2020; giving a sample size of 40 years. The variable utilized market capitalization; which was segregated into prior and post internationalization periods that prompted the longitudinal research design. The Runs test, and Ljung and Box-Pierce test were undertaken to examine if any profitable short-term trading rules and statistical significant patterns exist in security prices, at the 95% confidence level. The estimation indicate the absence of Weak-Form of market efficiency in the operations of the NSE prior and post internationalization periods. Contingent on this finding, the Weak-Form efficiency do not exist in the Nigeria capital market in the reviewed period. As such, investors should frequently employ the use of charts, graphs and patterns in predicting the direction of the market as it helps to earn extra returns on their investment. In addition, the Securities and Exchange Commission should provide periodic investors’ education on the application of charts and patterns in predicting stock price movements

    Dissecting Management Strategies of Farmer – Herder Conflict in Selected Vulnerable States in North-Central Nigeria

    This study examined farmer-herder conflict through the prism of management approaches/preventive conflict strategies in selected vulnerable States and Local Government Areas in North-Central Nigeria. Cross-sectional survey design and ex-post facto were used as research designs. A sample size of 57 Key Informant Interview (KII), 17 Focused Group Discussion (in a syndicate of 10 persons per group) and 10 Study Chat (SC) were carried out across the targeted communities with the aid of purposive sampling techniques. The participants were generated under the leadership of Community Security Architecture Dialogue (CSAD) a local peace structure which comprised of representatives of farmers, herders, religious group, traditional leaders, women wing, youth leaders, government security officials among others, under the supervision of Search for Common Group (SFCG), an NGO interfacing between farmers and herders in North –Central Nigeria. Thematic Content Analysis (TCA) was used to analyze the content of the data generated in the course of the interviews. Rational choice theory was used as a framework of analysis. The study discovered that; peace building structure achieved greater success in terms of mediation, dialogue, psycho-social and trauma healings among aggrieved parties. The study discovered that even though a number of arrests were made they were not sufficient enough due to sabotage from immediate communities. It noted further that the detention of suspects had significant impact in de-escalating conflicts between farmers and herders among others. Thus, the study recommended that; there is need for greater participation and cooperation the locals for building trust, confidence, resilience and trust among the contending parties, while members of the communities should be motivated by the governments of the States that make up the North-Central region to volunteer credible intelligence security tips to relevant authorities towards result oriented investigation, arrest, detention and prosecution, to guarantee lasting peace and stability in the region

    Promoting Economic Development and Poverty Reduction through Microfinance Banks

    This study examines the role of microfinance banks in economic development and poverty reduction in Nigeria from 1992 to 2019. Annualized data used for the study were gotten from CBN statistical bulletin and World Bank database. Preliminary test such as; descriptive statistic, ADF unit root test, co-integrated test, and ECM were first performed on the data to check their reliability. Thereafter OLS regression method was used to test the data. The result shows that microfinance banks’ deposits and investment positively and significantly influence the economy. It also revealed that microfinance bank credit positively and significantly influences the level of poverty, while inflation rate negatively and significantly influence the level of poverty in the economy. The study recommends that credit advancement should be focused on productive areas of the economy that will enhance productivity, development and poverty reduction in Nigeria
