No full textThis photo received second place in the 2014 Research student photography and image competition held to celebrate National Science Week (Aug 16-24). Blurb: Research has been unable to keep up with the emergence of touchscreen technology and its widespread use amongst young children. I am interested in learning about how this new technology influences learning and development in toddlers and pre-schoolers. The image that often comes to mind when one thinks of a child on an iPad is an isolated, “zoned out” little one who appears to be harming their brain rather than helping it. However, touchscreen use does not have to be a solo activity, and television research has shown that joint media engagement enhances learning. I am passionate about exploring this and other principles of learning in this touchscreen medium
