Leitmotif
This photograph originally appeared in the 2014 Research student photography and image competition held to celebrate National Science Week (Aug 16-24). Blurb: My PhD research investigates if there is a correlation between drawing and spatial ability, comparing gamers and non-gamers. One of the tasks I get my participants to complete is the drawing of a teapot. I use some software I have developed to analyse the accuracy of the drawings when compared to a photograph of the teapot taken from the same angle and position as the drawer sees. I can then compare their drawing accuracy score against various other spatial ability metrics including the MRT to check for any correlations. The picture submitted here shows about 200 of the sketched teapots constructing a mosaic of a photograph of the same teapot
Mediated identity
This photograph originally appeared in the 2014 Research student photography and image competition held to celebrate National Science Week (Aug 16-24). Blurb: My PhD thesis asks how online anonymity is historically, legally, and culturally constructed. What we choose to reveal about ourselves online and how we negotiate social media interfaces influences the spaces we inhabit and the people we communicate with. This photograph represents a blurring of the boundaries between online and offline, with two reflections of the same face caught between technologies that are used to mediate identities
