    Generalized Ishikawa Iterative Algorithm with Errors and Variable Generalized Ishikawa Iterative Algorithm for Nonexpansive Mappings in Symmetric Banach Spaces

    We present a generalized Ishikawa iterative algorithm with an error term and a variable generalized Ishikawa iterative algorithm. Leveraging the geometric symmetry inherent in uniformly convex Banach spaces, we establish their respective weak convergence theorems for nonexpansive mappings. As applications, we extend several recent results in the literature related to the proximal point algorithm and the split feasibility problem. Consequently, we propose a hyper-generalized proximal point algorithm and a hyper-generalized perturbation CQ algorithm. Our work not only broadens the application scope of these methods but also highlights the foundational role of symmetric space properties in ensuring algorithmic convergence

    The Seeds Are Sown: Towards Interracial Inclusivity at a UK Predominantly White Institution

    The mental distress experienced by ethnic minority students studying at predominantly White institutions is well documented. These institutions and their spaces can be hostile environments for ethnic minority students and staff, leading to low retention, engagement and poor mental health. Often posited through a deficit lens, we challenge models that situate the experiences of what we call the resilient minority (ReM)—racialised ethnic groups—into categories to be fixed. By deploying qualitative research into Black and White university student experiences of racial inclusion, we explore alternative views to building stronger, more resilient communities. By further theorising interracial anxiety (the increased levels of anxiety felt by White people when interacting with ReM or experienced by ReM in predominantly White contexts), we highlight how decolonisation, built on representation and recognition, not only generates important discussions about interracial anxiety but also creates opportunities for change. We evidence how the representation of ReM groups through a Black feminist and decolonial critique in predominantly White contexts can reduce anxiety, promote wellbeing and potentially foster interracial inclusivity in higher education

    Developing Technical Literacy for Business School Students Studying Innovation

    This study examines how business school students with no programming background develop technical literacy through a newly introduced Digital Innovation course. Addressing a gap in non-STEM education research—where little is known about how social science students experience technical literacy interventions—we draw on qualitative data from group exam reflections (n = 14) and mid-semester survey responses (n = 7). Using an inductive thematic analysis, the study investigates how students perceived, navigated, and made sense of foundational coding activities. Four themes emerged: (1) Perceived value of coding and technical literacy, (2) Hidden gaps in foundational technical literacy, (3) AI as a cognitive and pedagogical scaffold and (4) Emerging technical competence and identity formation. Framed within theories of digital literacy and constructivist learning, the findings show how limited, scaffolded exposure to web development can shift students from digital consumption toward novice digital production. The study contributes empirical insight into how coding can be meaningfully embedded within business school curricula and offers pedagogical recommendations for designing accessible technical literacy interventions

    The Development and Evaluation of a Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) Method for the Detection of Spirometra mansoni in Dogs

    Spirometra mansoni is a zoonotic parasite that inhabits the intestines of dogs and cats. The plerocercoids (spargana) parasitize several vertebrates, including humans, resulting in a food-borne zoonosis known as sparganosis. In this study, it has been established that a LAMP assay can detect S. mansoni eggs in dog feces. A total of 97 fecal samples were collected from Changsha City, Hunan Province. The fecal DNA was extracted before designing primers for LAMP based on the S. mansoni cox1 gene. The specificity of this method was verified by PCR using LAMP outer primers or inner primers and nested PCR with S. mansoni-specific cox1 primers. DNA samples from five control dog worms were analyzed using the LAMP assay to evaluate the specificity. The detection rate of LAMP for S. mansoni eggs was 70.21% in stray dogs. PCR and nested PCR produced specific bands on agarose gel electrophoresis consistent with the expected length. When the LAMP assay was conducted using S. mansoni-infected samples, negative samples, and genomic DNA from control worms, only the S. mansoni-infected samples showed a typical ladder pattern. The samples were stained with SYBR Green I, and only the S. mansoni-infected samples had a fluorescent signal. In addition, compared with PCR and microscope, LAMP method can detect eggs in the shortest infection days, and its detection rate was higher than that of PCR. These results suggest that the established LAMP method have many advantages in detecting Spirometra mansoni

    Mere Virtual Presence Experiences (MVPE) Drive Online Brand Community Members’ Purchasing Behavior: Moderating Roles of Consumers’ Need for Uniqueness (CNFU) and Product Type

    Grounded in Social Impact Theory, this study examines the effects of virtual experiences generated by Mere Virtual Presence (MVP), Mere Virtual Presence with Product Experience (MVPE), and pure brand websites on consumers’ brand attitudes and purchase intentions. Additionally, it explores the moderating roles of Consumers’ Need for Uniqueness (CNFU) and product type (search vs. experience products). This study adopts an experimental design with three brand website types (MVP brand communities, MVPE brand communities, and pure brand websites) and two product types to examine the hypothesis. Specifically, a 3 (brand website type) × 2 (product type) experimental design was implemented to examine the influence of brand website types across different scenarios of online marketing. The findings reveal significant insights into consumer brand marketing. Specifically, consumers with low CNFU exhibited higher brand attitudes and purchase intentions compared to those with high CNFU when engaging with search products in MVPE brand communities Furthermore, fan avatars within a virtual brand community can still influence consumer perceptions even without direct interaction. These insights contribute to the growing body of research on personalized marketing and offer practical strategies for leveraging eWOM to enhance consumer engagement and influence decision-making in the digital landscape

    Walking Dynamics, User Variability, and Window Size Effects in FGO-Based Smartphone PDR+GNSS Fusion

    The performance of smartphone-based pedestrian positioning strongly depends on the GNSS signal quality, the motion dynamics that influence PDR accuracy, and the way both sources of information are fused. While recent studies have shown the benefits of Factor Graph Optimization (FGO) for Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) fusion, the interaction between human motion, PDR errors, and FGO window configuration has not been systematically examined. This work investigates how walking dynamics affect the optimal configuration of sliding-window FGO, and to what extent FGO mitigates motion-dependent PDR errors compared with the Kalman Filter (KF). Using data collected from ten pedestrians performing four motion types (slow walking, normal walking, jogging, and running), we analyze: (1) the relationship between walking speed and the FGO window size required to achieve stable positioning accuracy, and (2) the ability of FGO to suppress PDR outliers arising from motion irregularities across different users. The results show that a window size of around 10 poses offers the best overall balance between accuracy and computational load, providing substantial improvement over SWFGO with a 1-pose window and approaching the accuracy of batch FGO at a fraction of its cost. Increasing the window further to 30 poses yields only marginal accuracy gains while increasing computation, and this trend is consistent across all motion types. Additionally, FGO and SWFGO reduce PDR-induced outliers more effectively than KF across all users and motions, demonstrating improved robustness under gait variability and transient disturbances

    Optimization Method for Robustness of Hypernetwork Communication with Integrated Structural Features

    The ultimate objective of research on hypernetwork robustness is to enhance its capability to withstand external attacks and natural disasters. For hypernetworks such as telecommunication networks, public safety networks, and military networks—where security requirements are extremely high—achieving higher communication robustness is essential. This study integrates the structural characteristics of hypernetworks with an optimization method for communication robustness by combining four key indicators: hyper-betweenness centrality, hyper-centrality of feature subgraph, hyper-centrality of Fiedler, and hyperdistance entropy. Using the best improvement performance (BIP_T) as the evaluation metric, simulation experiments were conducted to comparatively analyze the effectiveness of these four indicators in enhancing the communication robustness of Barabási–Albert (BA), Erdos–Renyi (ER), and Newman–Watts (NW) hypernetworks, and theoretically derives the hyperedge addition threshold θ. The results show that all four indicators effectively improve the communication robustness of hypernetworks, although with varying degrees of optimization. Among them, hyper-betweenness centrality demonstrates the most significant optimization effect, followed by hyper-centrality of feature subgraph and hyper-centrality of Fiedler, while hyperdistance entropy exhibits a relatively weaker effect. Furthermore, these four indicators and the proposed communication robustness optimization method exhibit strong generalizability and have been effectively applied to the WIKI-VOTE social hypernetwork

    Changes in Alcohol-Based Handrub Usage Among Hospital Staff Four Years After the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Single-Centre Observational Time-Series Study

    Background/Objectives: Alcohol-based handrub (ABHR) consumption is commonly used as an indirect proxy for hand hygiene practices. Hand hygiene compliance increased significantly during COVID-19, but sustainability remains uncertain. This study assessed ABHR consumption trends from 2022 to 2024 and compared them with pre-pandemic and pandemic-era rates. Methods: We conducted a follow-up observational study tracking quarterly ABHR consumption in a surgical department and hospital-wide (2022–2024). Consumption was normalized as mL per patient-day and compared with 2019–2020 data. Time-series regression with Newey–West standard errors assessed temporal trends. Results: Surgical department consumption declined 27.5% (55.9 to 40.5 mL/patient-day), returning to 2019 pre-pandemic levels. Hospital-wide consumption increased 36% (36.4 to 49.6 mL/patient-day). Neither trend reached statistical significance (p > 0.05). The 2024 surgical rate remained substantially below the 2020 pandemic peak (320 mL/patient-day). Conclusions: Pandemic-era ABHR consumption gains were not sustained in the surgical department despite maintained educational infrastructure, accessible dispensers, and consistent staffing. The critical missing element was systematic monitoring and feedback. Institutions relying solely on passive education may experience erosion of hand hygiene compliance post-crisis, highlighting the need for active surveillance programs to maintain behavioral gains

    Surface Runoff Responses to Forest Thinning in Semi-Arid Oak–Pine Micro-Catchments of Northern Mexico

    Hydrological behavior plays a critical role in seasonally dry forest ecosystems, as it underpins water availability for multiple productive activities, including forestry, agriculture, grazing, and urban supply. This study evaluated the hydrological effects of thinning treatments in a semi-arid oak–pine forest of Chihuahua, Mexico, using a Before–After–Control–Impact (BACI) design. Three Micro-catchments (MC) with initially comparable tree density and canopy cover were monitored during the rainy seasons of 2018 (pre-thinning) and 2019 (post-thinning). Thinning treatments were applied at 20% and 60% canopy cover in two MC, while a third remained unthinned as a 100% control. Precipitation and surface runoff were recorded at the event scale, and data were analyzed using Weibull probability models with a log link to capture the frequency and magnitude of runoff events. Precipitation patterns were broadly comparable across years, although 2018 included an extreme storm event (59 mm). In contrast, runoff volumes in 2019 were lower despite marginally higher seasonal rainfall, reflecting the absence of large storms. Statistical modeling indicated that for each additional millimeter of precipitation, mean runoff increased by approximately 12%, although thinning significantly altered baseline conditions. Relative to 2018, mean runoff ratios were 0.087 in the 100% canopy catchment, 0.296 in the 60% treatment, and 0.348 in the 20% treatment, suggesting that reduced canopy cover retained proportionally more runoff than the control. BACI contrasts confirmed that thinned catchments maintained higher proportions of runoff than the unthinned control, although statistical significance was marginal for the 20% canopy treatment. Overall, the study provides ecohydrological insights relevant to the management of semi-arid forest ecosystems

    Urban Waste Composition Associated with Online Food Delivery in Bangkok, Thailand, with Emphasis on Plastic Waste Management

    The rapid growth of online food delivery in urban areas reflects changing consumer lifestyles, but it has also contributed to increasing plastic waste and challenges in waste management. This study investigated the composition of municipal solid waste (MSW) related to online food delivery, consumer ordering behavior, and single-use plastic (SUP) generation in households in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area. Data were collected from 385 food delivery customers via online questionnaires. The results show that the proportion of plastic waste in MSW has increased, with 76.6% of participants reporting higher online food delivery usage. SUPs from food delivery, including non-essential items such as plastic films, spoons, and cutlery, were prevalent, and participants rarely selected green options to opt out of receiving them. These findings highlight the need for targeted interventions, including closed-loop management involving producers, platforms, consumers, and government. Policy recommendations include implementing extended producer responsibility (EPR) for environmentally friendly packaging, providing incentives for merchants and consumers to reduce SUP, applying the polluter-pays principle (PPP) to users, and designing government policies to regulate SUP and improve plastic waste management
