STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS IN ACTION: A STARCH SUPPLY NEGOTIATION
This case study explores a real-world negotiation challenge faced by a corrugated cardboard packaging company in renewing its annual starch supply contract. Two suppliers have proposed significant price adjustments, citing increased costs and new formulation expenses, as it balances between its need to control costs and the importance of maintaining strong partnerships with its suppliers. With a maximum acceptable price adjustment of 4.3%, the company has explored creative options to manage conflict and achieve a successful outcome. Will the company be able to secure a favorable deal, or will the negotiation break down? The outcome hangs in the balance, as the company works to find a solution that meets the needs of all parties involved
An investigation into the Cultural implications of the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in Higher Education in Nigeria
This study investigates the cultural implications and inclusivity of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in higher education in Nigeria. Using a quantitative research methodology and a survey research design, data was collected from 157 staff members of a college of education in Zaria. The findings reveal critical concerns about the impact of AI tools on local knowledge systems, cultural heritage, and traditional pedagogical practices. The results show that AI tools developed within Western frameworks may overlook indigenous languages and cultural contexts, potentially leading to the erosion of cultural identities and biases. Furthermore, unequal access to technology and socio-economic barriers contribute to the exclusion of marginalized groups, particularly women and students with disabilities. Despite these challenges, the study highlights the potential for AI to promote personalized learning and inclusivity, particularly through features such as adaptive learning systems and assistive technologies. However, gaps remain in making AI tools fully inclusive, particularly in terms of multilingual resources, mobile accessibility, and gender equity. Based on these findings, the study recommends the development of AI tools that reflect Nigeria’s linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as the implementation of comprehensive digital literacy training for educators and students. Collaborative efforts among educators, policymakers, and technology developers are essential to creating an inclusive and culturally responsive AI-enabled educational environment
STRENGTHENING NATIONAL RESILIENCE THROUGH DEFENSE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE ERA OF GLOBALIZATION
This study aims to analyze the role of defense entrepreneurship in strengthening national resilience in the era of globalization. Globalization demands that countries be independent in the defense sector, particularly through innovation, strategic industrial independence, and strengthening the defense entrepreneurship ecosystem. The research method used is a qualitative case study approach. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews with academics, defense industry practitioners, and policymakers, while secondary data was collected from policy documents, official reports, and related scientific publications. Data analysis was conducted using NVivo 12 Plus software for coding, categorizing, and thematic analysis. Within the theoretical framework, this study uses the National Resilience Theory, which emphasizes the importance of ideological, political, economic, socio-cultural, and defense and security aspects (Asta Gatra), and is supported by the concept of Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Theory to explain the dynamics of defense innovation development. The results show that defense entrepreneurship plays a strategic role in increasing the independence of the defense industry through collaboration between the government, academics, and business actors. In addition, the emergence of defense technology start-ups can strengthen national competitiveness amidst the pressures of globalization. This study concludes that strengthening national resilience requires the integration of defense innovation policies, entrepreneurial support, and the use of digital technology. Research recommendations are directed at establishing a defense entrepreneurship ecosystem that is inclusive, sustainable, and adaptive to global dynamics

This article reflects on the content of the program schedules broadcast on the channels of the Ivorian public television, namely RTI1 and RTI2 of the RTI Group. Using a historical-analytical approach, it highlights the social issues of the television dramas that these media offer to the public.
Through this critical review, it appears that the policy of taking local content into account is not effective. Indeed, three key elements highlight the deficit of local fiction. They are: First, the perception of local fiction as a colonial legacy.
Secondly, a lack of specialization among the actors involved in positioning the local sector, and finally, thirdly, the development of a system seen as an obstruction to the dissemination of local content
CULTURE IN TRANSITION
Nigeria’s complex cultural landscape faces increasing pressure from the forces of globalization, digitalization, and transnational cultural flows. As global norms and values rapidly penetrate local contexts, concerns have intensified regarding the erosion of indigenous knowledge systems and the diminishing sense of African identity among Nigerian youth. Social Studies education, designed as a discipline for citizenship formation, value transmission, and cultural continuity, is strategically positioned to respond to these challenges. This paper examines how Social Studies education in Nigeria can preserve and promote African identity in a globalized world. Drawing on empirical studies from Nigerian secondary schools, national policy documents, Afrobarometer datasets, and contemporary scholarly literature, the article analyzes the nature and pace of cultural transition in Nigeria, the extent of identity shifts among learners, and the capacity of the Social Studies curriculum to mitigate cultural loss. Findings indicate that, although globalization has amplified cultural hybridity, weakened indigenous value systems, and reshaped youth identities, Social Studies education still holds significant potential to reinforce cultural awareness, indigenous values, and national consciousness. However, this potential is constrained by curriculum inconsistencies, inadequate teacher preparation, limited integration of local knowledge, and the dominance of Western digital content. The study concludes by proposing a culturally responsive and hybridized Social Studies model that blends global competencies with African identity affirmation, offering strategic policy recommendations for curriculum reform, teacher education, and community–school collaboration
Influence of Craterispermum schweinfurthi leaf extract on glucose homeostasis in male Wistar rats
The present study aims to determine the potential influence of Craterispermum schweinfurthi leaf extract on glucose homeostasis using male Wistar rats as models. 48male Wistar rats were acclimatized and subsequently randomly divided into 6 groups of 8 rats each. Diabetes was induced in all rat groups except Group 1 using alloxan at a dose of 200mg/kg bw administered intraperitonially. Diabetes was confirmed after 72 hours of alloxan administration if the blood glucose level is ≥ 11.1 mmol/L (200mg/dl) and was daily treated with different concentrations of extract.Compared to group 2 (Untreated Diabetic) rats, administration of graded doses ofthe extract of Craterispermum schweinfurthi amongstGroups 3, 4 and 5 rats demonstrated a dose dependent significant reduction (p<0.05)in blood glucose level and glycosylated hemoglobin concentrationwith the highest dose demonstrating the most impactful outcome. Suggesting a possible hypoglycemic and anti-hyperglycemic effects of the extract. Similar results were observed amongst group 6rats followingadministration of Glibenclamide. Treatment of diabetic rats with hydromethanol leaf extract of Craterispermum schweinfurthi lowered blood glucose level and ameliorated glycosylated hemoglobin concentration in male Wistar rats
Eating Behaviors of Early Childhood at a Selected Upazila in Bangladesh
Background: Eating behavior plays a vital role in both the prevention and management of chronic illnesses associated with poor nutrition. Children who are overweight tend to display stronger food responsiveness, derive more enjoyment from eating, and often consume more food in response to emotional cues. The aim of this study was to assess eating behaviors among young children in a selected Upazila of Bangladesh.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included a total of 103 mothers with children aged between 1 and 5 years. Participants were chosen using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire comprising two sections: Part 1 included socio-demographic information, and Part 2 consisted of the Child Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ). Data analysis was performed using both descriptive and inferential statistics via SPSS version 26.
Results: The study found a moderate overall mean score (2.91 ± 0.33) in children's eating behaviors, with variability observed across the eight subscales of the CEBQ. The average age of participating mothers was 27.75 years (SD = 3.816). Statistically significant associations were observed between children’s eating behaviors and various socio-demographic factors, including mothers’ education level (F = 5.519, p = 0.005), fathers’ education level (F = 7.328, p = 0.000), fathers’ occupation (F = 2.687, p = 0.036), and the number of siblings (r = 0.334, p = 0.001).
Conclusion: The findings highlight meaningful associations between several demographic variables and children's eating behaviors. These results support the need for policy-level initiatives aimed at promoting food security and balanced nutrition during early childhood, with the goal of reducing malnutrition and supporting healthy development in Bangladesh
ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION COST AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF LISTED OIL AND GAS FIRMS IN NIGERIA
Oil spills, gas flaring, and poor waste management have resulted in severe environmental damage, leading to increased operational expenses for companies as they struggle to comply with environmental regulations, this study examined the effect of environmental degradation cost and financial performance of listed oil and gas firms in Nigeria. Environmental degradation cost is the independent variable proxied by oil spill cost, environmental fines and penalties cost, carbon emission cost, waste management cost and environmental restoration cost and financial performance is the dependent variable proxied by return on assets. Ex-post facto research design was used and panel data covering ten (10) years (2015-2024) across nine (9) listed oil and gas firms in Nigeria. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis via E-views 10.0 statistical package. The study findings revealed that oil spill cost has a significant positive effect {Coeff = 6.6475 (0.0028)} on the return on assets of listed oil and gas firms in Nigeria, environmental fines and penalties have non-significant negative effect {Coeff = -0.5802 (0.6408)} on the return on assets of listed oil and gas firms in Nigeria while carbon emissions cost has a significant negative effect {Coeff = -174.4241 (0.0000)} on the return on assets of listed oil and gas firms on Nigeria. It also revealed that waste management cost has non-significant negative effect {Coeff = -1.4233 (0.7954)} on the return on assets of listed oil and gas firms in Nigeria while environmental restoration cost has a non-significant positive effect {Coeff = 1.3290 (0.0853)} on the return on assets of listed oil and gas firms on Nigeria. It was thus concluded that environmental degradation cost has a significant effect on financial performance of listed oil and gas firms in Nigeria. The recommendations made included that policymakers and regulators should strengthen environmental regulations and enforcement mechanisms to ensure that oil and gas firms comply with environmental standards, thereby reducing environmental fines and penaltie
Numerical Methods for Addressing Fractional Order Trypanosomiasis Through the Generalized Adams-Bashforth-Moulton Approach
Trypanosomiasis remains a critical vector-borne disease burden, especially in sub-Saharan African communities where tsetse fly populations thrive and healthcare infrastructure remains limited. Conventional integer-order mathematical frameworks frequently inadequately represent the hereditary characteristics and intricate transmission patterns inherent in vector-borne disease systems. This research presents a fractional-order mathematical framework for examining the epidemiological characteristics of trypanosomiasis transmission, with particular focus on how treatment interventions at different disease stages affect overall transmission dynamics. The primary goal is to explore how variations in treatment efficacy rates and vector-human contact patterns influence disease persistence and spread within affected populations. The framework employs fractional derivatives to more accurately capture the non-Markovian properties of infection progression and immune response mechanisms. The computational results further reveal that strategically implemented treatment protocols can dramatically reduce infection prevalence, potentially driving the system toward disease elimination scenarios. The innovation of this work centers on applying fractional calculus to trypanosomiasis transmission modeling, an approach relatively unexplored in this epidemiological context, while simultaneously incorporating multi-stage treatment interventions and natural immunity waning processes. The model demonstrates superior precision in representing temporal disease progression compared to classical integer-order approaches. This investigation underscores the utility of fractional-order modeling in vector-borne disease research and emphasizes the critical importance of strengthening treatment capacity and vector control measures to effectively manage and eliminate trypanosomiasis transmission in endemic regions
THE INFLUENCE OF WORD OF MOUTH (WOM) ON FRUIT PURCHASING DECISIONS IN THE MODERN MARKET IN THE COMMUNITY SAMARINDA CITY
Word of mouth is communication by word of mouth about views or ratings of a product or service, both individually and in groups that aim to provide personal information. This research was conducted to know the effect of word of mouth (WOM) on the decision to buy fruit in the modern market in the people of Samarinda 2023.This research was conducted at the Samarinda modern market, namely at the Lembuswana Mall, Big Mall, Samarinda Central Plaza, and Robinson Mall from January until March 2023. With a population of 130 fruit consumers in the Samarinda modern market. To obtain data in this study, the authors used a questionnaire method which was given to consumers who had bought fruit at the Samarinda modern market. The collected data were then analyzed based on the results of hypothesis testing on traditional word of mouth and online word of mouth. Furthermore, the overall results of hypothesis testing showed that traditional word of mouth (X1) that is talker, topic, taking part, and online word of mouth (X2) that is aids providers or media, attention to other consumers, helps the company, express positive experiences, seek advice, have a positive influence on fruit purchasing decisions in the modern market in Samarinda. Thus the hypothesis was accepted. Based on the research results obtained, it is known that of the two independent variables that have adominant influence on purchasing decisions is online word of mouth because the value of the beta coefficient(standardized coefficients beta = (0,762) is greater than the value of the traditional beta coefficient of word of mouth (standardized coefficients beta=0,225)
