Formulation of sanction regulations for the crime of chemical castration in Indonesia

    Get PDF
There are advantages and disadvantages to implementing the castration penalty. On the one hand, the implementation of the castration penalty is expected to have a positive and preventive impact on perpetrators of criminal acts, as well as reducing the number of sexual violence against children. However, on the other hand, the application of chemical castration is considered a violation of Human Rights (HAM). Although the types of sanctions for each type of criminal act are different, what is clear is that the application of sanctions in criminal discipline must still refer to the objectives of the discipline itself. This research aims to determine the legal application of the chemical castration penalty in Indonesia and examine and analyze the criminal legal provisions for chemical castration for perpetrators of criminal acts of sexual violence against children. This research uses a normative juridical criminal law approach, namely by analyzing written documents or regulations. The approach used in this research can be a statutory approach and a case approach to the crime of castration. The results of research regarding the use of chemical castration in Indonesia have not been implemented and the direction regarding the implementation of chemical castration is still unclear. Until now there have been no perpetrators of chemical castration because in general the Indonesian Specialist Doctors Association (IDI) firmly rejects the existence of chemical castration punishments and does not allow doctors to be perpetrators of chemical castration punishments. To detail the punishment of chemical castration in disciplinary settings, several reasons can be used as a basis for punishing chemical castration on perpetrators of sexual crimes against children. There is no evidence to suggest that castration punishment has a deterring effect, or that there is a side effect of castration punishment that makes the discipline disproportionate to the perpetrator's action

Funding Structure and Performance of Quoted Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria

    Get PDF
This study examines the relationship between funding structure and the performance of quoted manufacturing firms (QMFs) in Nigeria from 2012 to 2022. The ratio of short-term financial liabilities to equity (SFLE), ratio of long-term financial liabilities to equity (LFLE), ratio of lease liabilities to equity (LLE), and the ratio of trade and other payables to equity (TPE) were used as indices of funding structure, while gross profit (LGPT) was used as proxy for performance. We sourced for data from the annual reports of thirty-two QMFs and thus giving a total observation of 352. The study made use of an ex-post facto research design. The study employed the descriptive statistics, unit root, Hausman, Panel Causality, and the Fixed Effect Panel Ordinary Least Square (POLS) tests at the 95% confidence interval. The unit root test shows that all the variables are stationary at level requiring the Hausman test that verifies that the Fixed Effect POLS is the more appropriate technique to apply in this study. The Fixed Effect POLS shows that LFLE and TPE are positive and significant to LGPT, LLE is negative and significant, and SFLE is negative and insignificant to LGPT. The Panel Causality test shows that there are uni-directional supports from LFLE, SFLE, and TPE to LGPT for QMFs in Nigeria. However, there is bi-directional support from LLE and LGPT. The study concludes that the ratio of short and long-term financial liabilities as well as trade and other payables to equity affect the earnings of QMFsin Nigeria. The study recommends that QMFs should continue to use trade and other payables and long-term financial liabilities as means of funding their investments since it promotes their earnings

Healing with African literature: Emecheta’s Second Class Citizen as auto-scriptotherapy text

    Get PDF
There are a lot of literary studies on African experiences right from colonisation to the present as well as exploration of the Literature of the Black Diaspora but little attention has been paid to Literature and Medicine as a field of study and synergy between the two as life-nurturing and life-preserving disciplines. Therefore, this paper examines Literature as therapy that heals the writer and characters in Emecheta’s Second Class Citizen as well as the readers. The Psychoanalytic theory of Carl Jung is used to drive  this work as he posits that components like animus, anima, persona, and shadow are the drives for human behaviour which could be positive or negative as well as survival of man on eartth. The findings in Emecheta’s Second Class Citizen views the text as Auto-scriptotherapy as it heals both the author and the readers with the assistance of using the complexity in the portrayal of Adah to teach medical personnels how to deal with their patients with patience, sympathy and love with a view to healing both the sickness and the sick. Therefore, both traditional and Contemporary African Literature are capable of healing writers, doctors, patients and the depressed as explored in the text. While African Literature can be recommended to units of Medicine in Nigerian and African Universities as it serves as therapy to all, as they erect medical humanities classes

The Evolution of the Organizational Culture: A Systematic Literature Review

    Get PDF
This article provides a systematic literature review (SLR) on Organizational Culture.  Our objective was to delineate the progression of these topics over the last 125 years, providing a substantial enhancement above a conventional bibliographic study.  This systematic literature review (SLR) surpasses traditional literature reviews (TLR) by offering a comprehensive overview of the subject matter across decades. TLR showcases the most relevant or recent articles rather than their progression. A total of 2,500 records of scientific publications were amassed from four distinct databases using keyword searches, yielding 2,300 articles (200 exclusions) with an aggregate of 1,801,726 citations, excluding patents. We performed a bibliometric study with these data. The number of citations about organizational culture has risen ninefold in the last 50 years and is anticipated to double in the coming decades. Our data also reveal patterns in research investigations and the regional distribution of scholarly contributions. Additionally, our work presents implications and suggestions for future research in this domain

INTEGRATED MECHANIZATION MODEL: Strategy to Increase Production and Welfare of Farmers In East Kalimantan, Anticipating Population Growth In Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN)

    Get PDF
This study aims to develop an integrated mechanization model that can improve agricultural production and farmer welfare in East Kalimantan, especially in the context of anticipating population growth in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). With the relocation of the capital city that will change the demographic landscape, the need for food security is becoming increasingly urgent. The discussion in this study highlights the importance of adopting mechanization technology that not only includes the stages of land cultivation but also the integration of all stages of production from land preparation to post-harvest processing. The research methods used are literature studies and secondary data analysis. Data were obtained from various sources including scientific articles, government reports, and academic publications relevant to agricultural mechanization and agricultural conditions in East Kalimantan. Through this approach, this study successfully identified the needs and potential for implementing integrated mechanization in the region. The results of the study indicate that the application of integrated mechanization can significantly increase harvested area, rice production, and farmer welfare. The adoption of mechanization is not only efficient in terms of time and cost but also allows for the expansion of managed agricultural areas. Supportive government policies, such as subsidies, infrastructure development, and extension and training programs, are needed to accelerate the adoption of this technology in East Kalimantan
