A Socio-pragmatic Perspective of Hudaibiya Treaty in the light of Grice’s Maxims

The present research will analyze the presence of Grice’s maxims in the treaty of Hudaibiya. The perfect idea of communication is that people will cooperate with each other during a conversation. Treaty has a lot of historical value as it suggests and reflects the cooperation of two leaders for the benefit of their people. It is a qualitative research but descriptive approach will be used for the analysis. Paul Grice’s (1975) Cooperative Principle: maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, maxim of relation, maxim of manner will be used to draw inferences. It was found that treaty follows all the maxims. All the points of the treaty are reality based and no compromises over religion have been made. Treaty is without any ambiguity, false or vague statements by using appropriate and relevant phrases and words. Furthermore, it promotes peace, prosperity, freedom and security of the people of that time which shows the socio-pragmatic culture of Islam

LINGUISTIC CONSTRUCTION OF OFFENDER, VICTIM AND CRIME IN NEWS STORIES ON CHILD SEX ABUSE: A CRITICAL STYLISTICS ANALYSIS

The present study attempts to investigate the representation of ideologies in the news stories on crime in English newspaper of Pakistan which construct offender, victim and crime in child sex abuse cases. The study uses Jefferies’ (2010) Critical Stylistics as a framework which provides a more developed and rigorous set of analytical tools (Tabbert, 2013) in form of a number of textual-conceptual functions. The results obtained through this framework are rigorous, objective and replicable. Child sex abuse (CSA) is becoming a worldwide burning issue and according to Sahil NGO report 2019, the number of CSA victims in Pakistan is increasing. The news stories concerning child sex abuse were collected and analyzed qualitatively. The results indicate that various linguistic devices were used to construct the offender which showed the construction was not neutral. He was termed as a criminal in the news stories before being trialed in the court. However, the authoritative persons termed him as a suspect.  The victim’s construction influenced the offender’s construction as well. The ideologies which construct the victim and crime are perpetuating stereotypes which ultimately arouse sympathies for the victim and aversion for the offender as the offender is constructed as an evil monster that does not have any qualms. The results also demonstrated that nouns naming crime had frequently been used. Crime naming nouns and verbs often occurred with offender naming nouns and victim naming nouns which demonstrated the close proximity among crime, the offender and the victim

This study aims to assert the viability of Islamic principles for teaching humanities, specifically the English syllabus at higher secondary school (HSSC) level in Pakistan.  The Present study establishes that education must be aligned with the basic human tenets that are enshrined in Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet. Islam preaches compassion, harmony and forbearance. Islam stands for humanity and teaches morality. The Holy Quran puts forth the strong evidences of these ultimate goals of Islam. The interpretation of the Holy Quran’s verses and Surahs can become the part of our curriculum and syllabus in form of short stories. The theoretical framework of Vermeer’s Skopos theory (1978) has been used for the translation of verses and Islamic incidents. The sample for this study is the English text book of Intermediate Part 1. The method of content analysis has been used. The book is explored to study its major themes. The themes are extracted manually by extensive reading and they are presented in tabulation form. The events and incidents from the history of Islam and the holy verses of the Quran have been explored corresponding to the extracted themes from the selected text book.  Translations of such texts that shape the minds of young learners should be the essential component of our academia. The study asserts that text books of English must be designed to teach the Islamic values of life by exemplifying true incidents from Islamic civilization. Translation of the Holy Quran will assist in maintaining cross cultural relationship and creating awareness among people

Poetry is one of the most beautiful branches to test human intellect because there are cultural, social, economic and political impacts on it. The job of the poet is to transfer such impacts to the people through his style. Every poet has a unique style; some express their thoughts in simple language whereas some follow symbolic approach. Whatever a person experiences, as a poet, is reflected in his writings. Saba Ikram is an important poet of modern times whose poetry is not only different from the rest of poets but there are traces of style absent in other poets. The researchers have critically examined and tried to put forward Saba Ikram’s poetic qualities such as contemporary consciousness, philosophy of acceptance and negation, global scenario, behavioral exquisiteness, and usage of symbols

A CORPUS-BASED DESCRIPTION OF PERSIAN LEXICAL COLLOCATIONS FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS

Collocation is an important level of lexis and its significance in the pedagogy of a language is an established phenomenon. There is also a considerable shift in foreign language teaching from single lexical items to multiword items. As meaning is present in larger stretch of language, the significance of these multi-word items of a language has been increased many times. Anyhow, handling of collocations for the learners of a foreign language is very challenging. The undertaken research is a systematic attempt in this regard to describe Persian language on the level of lexical collocations. The corpus of Persian language, developed by Illinois Institute of Technology, has been used.  Sketch Engine, a corpus tool, has been employed to extract lexical collocations from the Persian corpus. The retrieved data of lexical collocations of Persian language is supposed to be useful for Persian bilingual lexicologists, lexicographers, grammarians and in the pedagogy of Persian language. &nbsp

    No full text
Since the life of the holy Prophet ﷺ, it has been observed time and again that any man copying Hisﷺhabits has been benefited himself from enumerable physical and social blessings. It is astonishing to note that following Sunnah or in other words copying the habits of Messenger ﷺof Allah is free from religious and racial discrimination. All the people are equally benefited by the adaptation of His ﷺ Sunnah. In recent times scientific researches, have confirmed the fact that eating habits of the holy Prophetﷺ and even the type and ingredients of food used by the Prophetﷺ of Islam, had great hygienic and nutritional positive effects on the bodies of the copiers. Therefore, it is the dire requisition of present times to probe into the habits of the holy Prophet ﷺ and to make beneficial use of the information gained thereby. In the perspective of the epidemics of the recent times, it has been observed that there is a negative co-relation of most of the epidemics with the practice of Sunnah. It is very encouraging and a study inviting factor that the practice of Sunnah must be scientifically probed and the principles based upon the observations should be published for the betterment of humanities. Keeping in view the changing nature of the social values and the linguistic terminology, it is a requisite need to reconstruct the biography of the Messenger of Islamﷺ from this point of view; so that we should have a clear picture of physical and social activities of the holy Prophet ﷺ in daily life. We should make a need oriented copy program in our day to day life to make full use of Sunnah of the holy Prophet ﷺ which surely would secure the lives of the contemporary societies from all sorts of possible social evils and epidemic diseases. The present study aims at the closest possible observations of the life of the holy Prophet ﷺ and its social and possible applications to the contemporary societies. Thus the universe of the study would be the life of the holy Prophet ﷺ and its positive impact on the social life

In the beginning of the eighth century A.D. the Arabs conquered the Northwestern parts of India under Mohammad bin Qasim. Here too the early Arab character grounded in Islamic faith influenced many indigenous people to embrace the new faith. However in the years following the political turmoil's in the central Caliphate disrupted this process and with the fall of the Umayyad's Sindh became almost independent. The following centuries witnessed turbulent changes in the ruling class and the continued political disturbance sapped the Muslim society of its earlier Islamic integrity. Consequently there were instances of many converts returning to their original faith. This research belongs to those conflicting trends and ideas which started in the Mughal period. These trends had changed the thoughts of erudite completely. This paper also highlights the gap between Sharia and Tareqat
