No full textThe first instance of symbolism in Pakistani Short Stories is to be found in Manto's writings. Then come Intizar Hussain and Majeed Amjad who promoted symbolism in their short stories and started a new chapter in Urdu Literature. Rasheed Amjad belongs to the metaphorical and abstract school of thought in short story writing. He has given metaphor and formality experiments, that is why his topics and style holds a unique identity in Urdu literature. In his writings, he presents a society ridden with cruelty and tyranny, but the characters in his short stories are not hopeless individulas. On the contrary his characters keep the hope alive.
