    A novel is at least a new world, or a new understanding of it. Is it possible to present the new world with old words? Or it requires new words. If the existing social structure (ethos) and concept of reality (world view) is to be changed, then mere wording does not work, one has to do experiments of form. Then, in a post-colonial society, it is difficult to bear the burden of history and to mark the form of error implicit in its construction, without a new understanding of history. In Mirza Athar Baig's novel, Ghulam Bagh, word-making and formal experiments come out as prominent features. This novel is a dilemma of the characters trying to understand the reality and determine their status in the post-colonial situation.     Urdu language has been used as an effective source for understanding, creativity, research, knowledge and literature as well as training and teaching on official level prolonged for more than a hundred years in State of Jammu and Kashmir. It also enjoyed the status of lingua franca among three administrative units of the state: Jammu, Valley and Ladakh. Exclusively, one-dimensionality and harmony has been overwhelmed because the linguistic homogeneity and by that source the social, political, moral and cultural ties between the smaller and bigger units of the state also become stronger and monolingualism only guaranteed to strengthen the bonds.     Culture and society are intricately related.A culture consists of the “objects” of a society,whereas a society consists of the people who share a common culture.When the terms culture and society first acquired their current meanings,most people in the world worked and lived in small groups in the same locale.Some Socialogists define society as the people who interact in sach a way as to share a common culture.The cultural bond may be ethnic or racial,based on gender,or due to shared beliefs,values,and activities.The term society can also have a geographic meaning and refer to people who share a common culture in a particular location.For example,people living in arctic climates developed different cultures from those living in desert cultures.In time, a large variety of human cultures arose around the world.     Deputy Nazir Ahmad was a prolific Urdu writer. He was a profound scholar and translator. Besides Urdu rendition of the Holy Quran, he ingeniously translated the Penal Code of India and Income Tax Act from English into Urdu. He was a very good orator and delivered speeches on different occasions. He used the term lecture for his speeches. These speeches have importance in different areas of our history and literature. The article is a detailed study of one of his lectures delivered at Delhi. This lecture illustrates his educational, academic and literary life. The lecture also provides a good understanding about educational life of the Muslims of India of that time. It offers firsthand knowledge of the administrative situation of the princely state of Hyderabad Deccan as well.
