قدیم اُردو نثر کا ارتقائی جائزہ
Urdu language started its literary journy with poetry. At first, some lines of Urdu were traced in religious magazines.These samples denote that there was no specified rules for Urdu literature; only daily routien discussion was necessary which was mainly influenced by Persian. Prose in Sab Ras seems to be in rhymed Urdu. From here Urdu literature started taking its roots afterwards in North part of the sub-continent and it obtained simplicity in the form of Karbal Katha and Nau tarz-e-Muarssa added colour to it. Jamil Jalbi is well known historiographer, critic, linguist, translator and editor. He has written History of Urdu literature in four volumes. He has compiled a dictionary of Urdu which is very helpful for students and scholars alike. Besides, Jamil Jalbi has also compiled an Uurdu English dictionary namely Qaumi Urdu Lugat, which is comprised of almost two lacs words. Saleem Akhter and Anwar Sadeed are two literary historians who have comprehensively discussed Urdu Essay. Though, they are prominent literary historians, yet they differ in literary trends, concepts, theories, movements and subjects. They have different viewpoints on Urdu Essay. However, their views could not be considered perfect and comprehensive. They have partially exceeded each other at some places. They have adopted a hard and biased stance about the beginning of Essay and its development in Urdu. Their controversial views are reflective of their own schools of thought and contemporary professional biasness. Maulana Shibli Naumani is a renowned scholar and critic of Urdu. He penned many a book on different topics ranging from religion to history, poetry to criticism and so on. His rendition of Sh'irul Ajam is considered one of the greatest works on poetry chiefly in Persian and generally on the eastern tradition of poetry. This five volume book is widely quoted worldwide and the orientalists have also appreciated it for being the comprehensive source on eastern poetry. Akhtar-ul-Iman is an established poet of modern poem. Ten anthologies of his poetry and one compilation have been published so far. His verse anthologies include Gardaab, Sub Rung, Tareek Sayyarah, Aab-e-Joo, Yadein, Bint-e-Lamhat, Naya Ahang, Sar-o-Samaan, Zameen Zameen and Zamistan Sard MehriKa. His style of writing is both symbolical and metaphorical which brings precision in his poems. The introduction of short poem in Urdu literature is credited to him.
