ESTIMATION OF VARIANCE COMPONENTS AND SOME GENETICS PARAMETERS FOR MILK YIELD IN WATER BUFFALO POPULATION RAISED IN ISTANBUL
This study aims to estimate variance components, heritability, and repeatability of lactation yield (270 day), as well as estimated breeding value for 879 water buffalo lactation records for 615 animals belonging to the water buffalo breeding project using BUGA software. The model was constructed by using all available the pedigree information. Herd, season and year were used as fixed effects while lactation length and age were used as covariate. Random environment variance, genotypic variance and permanent environment variance values were estimated as 48388.61 +/- 0.0003 kg2, 12003.08 +/- 0.0003 kg2 and 9567.92 +/- 0.0003 kg2 while heritability (h2) and repeatability (r) of lactation yield were estimated as 0.17 +/- 0.162 and 0.30, respectively. The study concluded that the heritability of milk yield was low and in order to achieve more effective genetic improvement, the project should be organized in a way that allows for the identification of sire records for the animals involved. In addition, the environmental conditions in which buffalos are raised must be brought closer to the conditions required by the animals
Comparison of three equations for estimating glomerular filtration rate as predictors of cisplatin-related acute kidney injury in lung cancer patients with normal renal function
Objective: Cisplatin-associated acute kidney injury is a common clinical event that causes increased morbidity and mortality in cancer patients even if they are categorized as having normal functioning kidneys. We aimed to determine predictive factors that can predict acute kidney injury associated with cisplatin therapy in patients with normal renal function by comparison of pre-chemotherapy estimated glomerular filtration rates calculated separately by Cockcroft and Gault (CG), the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD), and the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EP & Idot;) equations and accompanying patient-associated factors. Materials and Methods: A total of 200 patients diagnosed with lung cancer and determined to have normal functioning kidneys and considered cisplatin eligible by the attending physician before chemotherapy were included in this retrospective study. Acute kidney injury after cisplatin chemotherapy (c-AKI) was determined according to the National Cancer Institute's Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events v4.03. Pre-chemotherapy serum laboratory parameters and clinico-histopathological characteristics of patients were recorded from the hospital electronic system. The optimal cut-off for eGFR methods was determined by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC-AUC) analysis. Predictive factor analysis for c-AKI was performed by regression analyses. Results: C-AKI developed in 39 (19.5%) patients. In the univariate analysis, a significant correlation was observed between c-AKI and high body mass index (BMI) before treatment, older age (>62.5), female gender, eGFR by MDRD (<= 94.5 mL/min) and eGFR by CKD-EPI (<= 91.5 mL/min). There was no relation between eGFR by CG and c-AKI. Two different multivariate models were established. Model 1 showed that female gender (odds ratio [OR] =4.90, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.52-15.79, P = 0.008) and eGFR by MDRD less than or equal to 94.5 mL/min (OR = 3.52, 95% CI: 1.68-7.38, P = 0.001) were predictive markers for c-AKI. In Multivariate Model 2, female gender (OR = 5.51, 95% CI: 1.70-17.83, P = 0.004) and eGFR by CKD-EPI less than or equal to 91.5 mL/min (OR = 3.52, 95% CI: 1.67-7.42, P = 0.001) were found to be predictive markers for c-AKI. Conclusions: This study revealed that eGFR calculated based on MDRD (<= 94.5 mL/min/m2) or CKD-EPI (<= 91.5 mL/min/m2) before chemotherapy indicates a strong tendency for c-AKI. In addition, we detected a high risk of c-AKI for females compared to their counterparts. Although eGFR 60 mL/min is considered the threshold level to accept patients as cisplatin-eligible, we recommend close follow-up of high-risk patients for cisplatin nephrotoxicity we detected in our models
Match analysis of veteran tennis players in official competition environment
Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Ana Bilim DalıBu tezin amacı, resmi müsabaka ortamında veteran tenis oyuncularının maç analizlerinin yapılmasıdır. Bu analizler, veteran tenis oyuncularının performanslarını geliştirmelerinde kullanılması hedeflenmektedir. Araştırma da gözlem metodu kullanılarak, Türkiye Tenis Federasyonu veteran tenis turnuvası tekler kategorisi kadın ve erkek müsabakalarının video çekimleri değerlendirme formuna işlenerek veriler elde edilmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan 35 - 44 yaş arası kadın ve erkek 64 oyuncunun (32 kadın ve 32 erkek) toplam 40 maçın analizi yapılmıştır. Müsabaka analizi yapmak amacıyla Sony HDR-CX240 (1920x1080) (29 fps) 2 adet dijital kamera kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen maç görüntüleri bilgisayara aktarıldıktan sonra notasyonel analizler ve maç karakteristik değişkenleri Kinova (0.8.15) video analiz programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Kadın ve erkek tenis oyuncularının vuruş karakteristikleri arasında farklılıklar olduğu görülmektedir. Kadınlar daha fazla oyun ve toplam puan kazanmıştır, bununla birlikte aktif oyun süresi daha fazladır. Ayrıca, vuruş sayıları açısından servis vuruşları ve dip çizgi vuruşları (forehand ve backhand) kadın oyuncularda fazladır. Bundan farklı olarak erkek oyuncularda vole vuruşları daha fazla çıkmıştır p<0,05. Bu sonuçlar veteran tenisçiler arasındaki cinsiyet farklılıklarını anlamamıza ve oyuncuların performansını artırmak için bize yol gösterici olabilir.The aim of this study is to perform match analyses of veteran tennis players in an official competition environment. These analyses are aimed to be used to improve the performance of veteran tennis players. In the research, using the observation method, the data were obtained by processing the video footage of the Turkish Tennis Federation veteran tennis tournament singles category female and male competitions into the evaluation form. A total of 40 matches of 64 players (32 female and 32 male) between the ages of 35 and 44 were analysed. Sony HDR-CX240 (1920x1080) (29 fps) 2 digital cameras were used to analyse the competitions. After the obtained match images were transferred to the computer, notational analyses and match characteristic variables were performed using Kinova (0.8.15) video analysis software. It was observed that there were differences between the stroke characteristics of male and female tennis players. Female won more games and total points, but also had more active playing time. Also, in terms of the number of strokes, service strokes and baseline strokes (forehand and backhand) are more in female players. In contrast, male players had more volleys, p<0.05. These results may help us to understand gender differences among veteran tennis players and guide us to improve the performance of players

The purpose of this review is to contribute to the importance of phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia Bentham) cultivate for beekeepers and farmers. However, since this plant species is not widely cultivated in our country, bees cannot benefit from this plant sufficiently. When we look at the beekeeping statistics in Turkey, honey production was 104,077 tons in 2020 and 96,344 tons in 2021, while in 2022 there was an increase of 118,297 tons. The number of colonies in recent years has been determined as 8,179,418 in 2020, 8,733,394 in 2021 and 8,984,676 in 2022. While the honey yield was 12.72 kg in 2020, this rate decreased to 11.03 kg in 2021 and 13.17 kg in 2022. In addition to being an important source of nectar, phacelia can be evaluated by farmers as a good green manure plant when it is harvested during flowering. Phacelia cultivation seed is carried out in the Mediterranean coastal zone and Marmara region in winter, and in regions with cold climates such as Eastern Anatolia, in summer. Since the seeds of phacelia are small, care should be taken that the seed bed is well prepared before planting. Global warming is becoming a big problem both in our country and in other countries. The biggest harmful effect of global warming is the problem of thirst. For this reason, the existence of plants such as bee grass, which can resist arid conditions, is very valuable in terms of the continuity of the nectar source.Bu derlemenin amacı arı otu yetiştiriciliğinin arıcılar ve çiftçiler açısından önemine katkıda bulunmaktır. Ancak bu bitki türünün ülkemizde yaygın olarak ekimi yapılamadığından arılar bu bitkiden yeterli düzeyde yararlanamamaktadır. Türkiye arıcılık istatistiklerine baktığımızda 2020 yılında bal üretimi 104,077 ton ve 2021 yılında 96,344 ton olurken 2022 yılında ise 118,297 ton olarak artış gerçekleşmiştir. Son yıllardaki koloni sayısı 2020 yılında 8,179,418 adet ve 2021 yılında 8,733,394 adet ve 2022 yılında 8,984,676 adet olarak belirlenmiştir. Bal verimi 2020 yılında 12.72 kg olurken, 2021 yılında bu oran düşüş yaşayarak 11.03 kg olmuş ve 2022 yılında artışa geçerek 13.17 kg olarak belirlenmiştir. Arı otu önemli bir nektar kaynağı olması yanında çiçeklenme döneminde biçilmesiyle iyi bir yeşil gübre bitkisi olarak da çiftçiler açısından değerlendirilebilir. Arı otu ekimi Akdeniz sahil kuşağı ve Marmara bölgesinde kışlık, Doğu Anadolu gibi iklimi soğuk olan bölgelerde ise yazlık olarak yapılmaktadır. Arı otunun tohumları küçük olduğu için ekimlerde tohum yatağının ekimden önce iyi hazırlanmış olmasına dikkat edilmelidir. Küresel ısınma hem ülkemizde hem de diğer ülkelerde giderek büyük bir sorun haline gelmektedir. Küresel ısınmanın getirdiği en büyük zararlı etki susuzluk problemidir. Bu yüzden kurak şartlara direnç gösterebilen arı otu gibi bitkilerin alanda var olması nektar kaynağının sürekliliği açısından oldukça değerlidir
Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Photonic Nanoplates
In this study, an investigation into the behaviour of electromagnetic wave propagation in a nanoplate, utilizing Eringen’s model, which is rooted in nonlocal theory, is conducted. This model accounts for the interaction of atoms that are at a significant distance from each other. The objective of this study is to derive solutions that incorporate both local and nonlocal calculations. The focus of this study revolves around the material property parameter values of the nanoplate and the impact of nano coefficients (nonlocal parameters) on the electromagnetic wave propagation behaviour. Additionally, the frequency and wave amplitude values of the electromagnetic wave propagation are determined. By implementing Eringen’s model, a comprehensive understanding of how electromagnetic waves traverse a nanoplate, considering the influence of nano coefficients on the electromagnetic wave propagation behaviour, and identifying the frequency and amplitude of the electromagnetic waves as they propagate through the nanoplate is explored. The solutions encompass both local and nonlocal calculations are aimed to derive. By using this model, a solution that accounts for both local and nonlocal calculations and examines how electromagnetic waves travel through a nanoplate, the effect of nano coefficients on electromagnetic wave propagation behaviour, and the frequency and amplitude of the electromagnetic waves as they propagate through the nanoplate is obtained. © IJCESEN
Carboxyethylsilanetriol-Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles as an Ultrasensitive Immunoplatform for Electrochemical Magnetosensing of Cotinine
In the present study, an innovative and simple electrochemical magneto biosensor based on carboxyethylsilanetriol-modified iron oxide (Fe3O4) magnetic nanoparticles was designed for ultrasensitive and specific analysis of cotinine, an important marker of smoking. Anticotinine antibodies were covalently immobilized on carboxylic acid-modified magnetic nanoparticles, and the cotinine-specific magnetic nanoparticles created a specific surface on the working electrode surface. The use of magnetic nanoparticles as an immobilization platform for antibodies provided a large surface area for antibody attachment and increased sensitivity. In addition, the advantages of the new immobilization platform were reusing the working electrode numerous times, recording repeatable and reproducible signals, and reducing the necessary volume of biomolecules. The specific interaction between cotinine and cotinine-specific antibody-attached magnetic nanoparticles restricted the electron transfer of the redox probe and changed the impedimetric response of the electrode correlated to the concentration of cotinine. The magneto biosensor had a wide detection range (2-300 pg/mL), a low LOD (606 fg/mL), and an acceptable recovery (97.24-105.31%) in real samples. In addition, the current biosensor's measurement results were in good agreement with those found by the standard liquid chromatography (HPLC) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) methods. Examination of the relationship between nurses' adherence to medication administration principles and their attitudes toward patient safety
Background: Preventing errors associated with medication administration is achievable through nurses' adherence to correct principles. Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between nurses' adherence to medication administration principles and their attitudes toward patient safety. Method: This study adopts a descriptive and relationship-seeking research design. A total of 310 nurses who met the inclusion criteria participated in the study. Data collection tools included the Nurse Information Form, Medication Administration Principles Adherence Form, and Patient Safety Attitude Scale. Results: Among the participating nurses, 32.9% (n = 102) reported experiencing a medication administration error, and 77.7% (n = 241) witnessed such an error. The study revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between nurses' adherence to medication administration principles and their attitudes toward patient safety (p < 0.001). Conclusions: This study underscores the importance of nurses' adherence to medication administration principles in ensuring patient safety
Rising meningitis in USA and Mexico: insights from the fatal outbreak
Meningitis, an inflammatory disease affecting the meningeal layers of the brain and the spinal cord, poses a significant public health concern globally. Most meningitis cases are caused by viral infections, bacterial infections being the second most common cause, while fungal or parasitic infections are deemed rare. Despite the decrease in bacterial meningitis because of vaccination and treatment, a recent meningitis outbreak in the United States and Mexico highlighted ongoing challenges. The current meningitis outbreak is caused by a pathogenic fungus and is associated with surgical procedures performed under spinal anaesthesia as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the 11 May of 2023. Around 20 cases with clinical suspicion of meningitis, including two fatalities, have been attributed to this rampant outbreak. Timely diagnosis, utilising diagnostic modalities such as lumbar puncture and pathogen detection methods, is crucial for appropriate management. Iatrogenic meningitis must be avoided by enhancing surveillance, infection control procedures, and adherence to aseptic practices. To lessen the effects of meningitis and enhance patient outcomes, the WHO's roadmap and preventive interventions, such as targeted immunisations, are essential
Mikorizalar ve Bağcılıkta Kullanımı
Bitki gelişimi ve yaşamını sürdürmede biyostimülantlar önemli bir yer tutmaktadırlar. Bu derlemede mikorizaların; toprak yapısına, asma köklerine, asmanın bitki besin elementi alımına, asma hastalık ve zararlılarına ve asma gelişimi üzerine etkileri sınıflanmış ve bağcılıkta mikoriza kullanımının yararları açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Dünya bağcılığında mikoriza kullanımının yararlı olduğunu gösteren çalışmalar bulunmaktadır. Öte yandan Türkiye’de sürdürülebilir tarım kapsamında, bağcılıkta mikoriza kullanımı konusunda yapılan bilimsel araştırmalar mevcuttur. Bu nedenle, özellikle yeni kurulacak bağlara, dikim öncesi mikoriza uygulanabilir. Bu şekilde mikoriza aşılanan asmanın yaşamı boyunca yeterli beslenmesi sonucu, dengeli gelişimi sağlanabilir. Aynı zamanda sürdürülebilir bağcılık yapılmış olacağından, asmaların verim ve kalitesi dengelenebilir. Bu makalede mikoriza kullanımının bitkilere etkileri; asma örneği üzerinden ortaya konmuştur
EXAMINING THE ROLE OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE IN THE IMPACT OF STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP ON COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE
Bu çalışmada, üst düzey yöneticilerin stratejik liderlik davranışlarının rekabet avantajı ile ilişkisi ve örgüt kültürünün bu ilişki üzerindeki düzenleyici etkisi araştırılmaktadır. Literatüre bakıldığında stratejik liderlerin yaklaşımı, rekabet avantajı ve örgüt kültürü arasında güçlü bir bağ olduğu görülmektedir. İlişkiler arası etkileşimi ortaya koymak adına, stratejik liderlikte iş geliştirme ve örgütsel yaratıcılık, rekabet avantajında esneklik ve yanıt verme yeteneği, örgüt kültüründe de karar almayı etkilen unsurlar ölçülmeye çalışılmıştır. Çalışmada, bu değişkenler bağlamında bir model geliştirilmiştir. Geliştirilen modelin ölçümlenebilmesi için Tekirdağ ili Çerkezköy ilçesinde Çerkezköy Ticaret ve Sanayi Odasına (ÇTSO) kayıtlı işletmelerin üst düzey yöneticilerine anket uygulanarak veriler toplanmıştır. Çalışmada yer alan değişkenler arası ilişkiler kısmi en küçük karelere dayalı yapısal eşitlik modellemesi, korelasyon ve yol analizi yardımıyla analiz edilmiştir. Anket verileri kullanılarak elde edilen bulgular, stratejik liderlik davranışlarının rekabet avantajı üzerinde pozitif etkileri olduğu ve düzenleyici etkide bulunan örgüt kültürünün bu ilişkiyi arttırdığı yönündedir. Araştırma sonuçları, ÇTSO kayıtlı işletmelerin örgüt kültürünün stratejik liderlik davranışları ile rekabet avantajı arasındaki ilişkiyi olumlu yönde düzenlediğini göstermektedir. Bu sonuçlarla, çalışmada benimsenen teoriler daha da genişletilerek literatüre katkı yapılmış, ayrıca hem liderlik hem de stratejik rekabet konusuna katkı sunulmuştur.In this study, the relationship between the strategic leadership behaviors of top-level executives and competitive advantage, as well as the moderation effect of organizational culture on this relationship, is being investigated. When we look at the literature, it is evident that there is a strong connection between the approach of strategic leaders, competitive advantage, and organizational culture. In order to reveal the interaction between these relationships, have been measured as business development and organizational creativity in strategic leadership, flexibility and responsiveness in competitive advantage and factors influencing decision-making in organizational culture. Within the context of these variables, a model has been developed in the study. To measure the developed model, data was collected by conducting a survey on top-level executives of businesses registered with the Çerkezköy Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CTSO) in Çerkezköy district of Tekirdağ province. The relationships between the variables included in the study were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling, correlation, and path analysis. Findings obtained from the survey data suggest that strategic leadership behaviors have a positive impact on competitive advantage, and the organizational culture, which acts as a moderator, enhances this relationship. The research results indicate that the organizational culture of businesses registered with CTSO positively moderates the relationship between strategic leadership behaviors and competitive advantage. With these results, the study has contributed to the literature by further expanding the theories adopted and has provided valuable contributions to both leadership and strategic competition topics
