New Synthesis of Some Isoxazole Derivatives and Their Antioxidant Properties
A series of substituted ethyl 5-phenyl-1,2-oxazole-3-carboxylates were synthesized in good to excellent yields in one step using hydroxylamine base and ethyl 2,4-dioxo-4-(4-R-phenyl)butanoates bearing both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing moieties on the benzene ring, and antioxidant properties of the products were investigated by the DPPH method. EFFECT OF SOIL CONDITIONERS APPLIED TO SEED ON GRAIN YIELD AND YIELD CHARACTERISTICS IN WHEAT
14th International Scientific Agricultural Symposium (Agrosym) -- OCT 07-10, 2021 -- Jahorina, BOSNIA & HERCEGThis study, researching the effect of seed treatment with liquid soil conditioners on yield properties of bread wheat varieties, was carried out during 2017 and 2018 years in the experimental field of Tekirdag Namik Kemal University Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops. The experiments were conducted with 3 bread wheat varieties and 4 soil amendments (control + 3 different liquid soil amendments) in 3 repetitions. In the experiment, 4 different treatments including 3 different soil regulators and 1 control (T1: Control; T2: 13-58+glycine betaine; T3: 15% organic matter, 15% humic and fulvic acid+0.03% potassium and T4: 25% organic matter + 65% humic acid + 6% potassium (T4) were made. Seeds treated with a spray and then dried were sown as split plot experimental design. In the study, the variations in the plant height (PH), spike length (SL), number of spikelets per spike (NSS), number of grains per spike (NGS), grain weight per spike (GWS), spike fertility index (SFI), harvest index (HI) and grain yield (GY) parameters were investigated for the bread wheat varieties. According to the research results, all soil conditioners applied to seeds were determined to affect the investigated characters at a statistically significant level. For the PH parameter, T3 treatment caused a significant increase, while for the SFI parameter, T2 treatment caused a significant increase. For the HI parameter, treatments T2 and T3 had the highest effect. Spike characteristics like SL, NSS and NGS increased compared to controls with all soil conditioner treatments, while parameters like GWS and SFI differed according to variety. Grain yield, the most important parameter for wheat, provided the highest results in different soil conditioner treatments depending on the varieties. T4 treatment caused clear increases in the SL, NSS, NGS, GWS and GY parameters. According to the data obtained was evaluated, soil conditioner applications caused a significant increase in the parameters examined in wheat. T4, which contains 25% organic matter + 65% humic acid + 6% potassium, was determined as the most effective soil conditioner for many parameters
Investigation of mechanical and frictional properties of ulexite and colemanite filled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene polymer composites for industrial use
Ulexite and colemanite filled acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene parts are manufactured by injection molding method. Tensile and wear tests are applied to reveal specific properties of composite parts. Various characterization methods are used to confirm the filler-matrix interactions, polymer melt flow, friction mechanisms, and fracture modes. This study investigated the use of ulexite and colemanite as fillers in acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene composite parts, focusing on their impact on mechanical and frictional properties. Results showed that the addition of ulexite and colemanite fillers significantly improved mechanical properties such as compared to pure ABS, however ulexite filler showed much better performance compared to colemanite. In terms of wear test, ulexite filled ABS specimen showed a smooth wear while pure and colemanite filled ABS provided severe wear characteristics. These findings have implications for the development of high-performance composite materials for use in industries such as automotive and aerospace. Graphical Abstrac
Label-Free Electrochemical Immunosensor Based on Conjugated Polymer Film Coated Disposable Electrode for Ultrasensitive Determination of Resistin Potential Obesity Biomarker
A new label-free immunosensor was designed for sensitive detection of resistin obesity biomarker in human biological fluids. To construct a sensing interface, the monomer of double epoxy groups-substituted thiophene (TdiEpx) was synthesized for the fabrication of the biosensing system. A disposable indium tin oxide sheet was first modified by electrochemical polymerization of the TdiEpx monomer, and this robust and novel surface was characterized using different spectroscopic and electrochemical analyses. The double epoxy ends were linked to the amino ends of anti-resistin, and they served as binding points for the covalent binding of biomolecules. The double epoxy ends present in each TdiEpx monomer ensured an extensive surface area, which improved the quantity of attached anti-resistin. The determination of resistin antigen was based on the specific coupling of resistin with anti-resistin, and this interaction hindered the electron transfer reaction. The immunosensor introduced a wide linear range of 0.0125-15 pg/mL, a low detection limit of 4.17 fg/mL, and an excellent sensitivity of 1.38 kohm pg mL(-1) cm(2). In this study, a sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay spectrophotometric method was utilized as a reference technique for the quantitative analysis of resistin in human serum and saliva samples. Both measurements in clinical samples displayed correlations and high-correlation coefficients. In addition, this immunosensor had good storage stability, acceptable repeatability and reproducibility, high specificity, and good accuracy. Effect of different sowing rates on forage and seed yieldlupin (Lupinus albus L.) in Balikesi̇r ecological conditions
Bu çalışmada, Balıkesir İli İvrindi İlçesi ekolojik koşullarında farklı ekim oranlarında yetiştirilen ak acıbaklanın (Lupinus albus L.) ot ve tohum verimleri araştırılmıştır. Deneme, 2022-2023 yetişme döneminde Balıkesir'in İvrindi ilçesinde yürütülmüştür. Çalışma, tesadüf bloklar deneme desenine göre 3 tekrarlamalı olarak düzenlenmiştir. Ekim oranları 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 ve 22 kg/da olarak uygulanmıştır. Farklı ekim normlarında bitki boyları arasında farklar önemsiz bulunurken, sap çapı, dal sayısı, bitkide bakla sayısı, bitkide tohum sayısı, bin tane ağırlığı, tohum verimi, yeşil ot verimi ve kuru ot verimi bakımından farklar önemli olmuştur. Tohum verimi 258,11 - 552,29 kg/da arasında belirlenmiştir. Ak acıbaklanın yeşil ot verimi 2400,67 – 3600,33 kg/da arasında olmuştur. Kuru ot verimleri 475,16 – 738,28 kg/da arasında tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Balıkesir İli İvrindi İlçesi koşullarında ak acıbaklanın tohum üretimi ve ot üretimi için 22 kg/da ekim normunda ekilmesi uygun olacaktır.In this study, the effect of different sowing rates on the forage and seed yields of white lupine (Lupinus albus L.) grown under the district of İvrindi, Balıkesir ecological conditions was investigated. The experiment was conducted between 2022 and 2023 in the district of İvrindi, Balıkesir, Turkey. The study was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Sowing rates of 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 22 kg/da were applied. While the differences between the plant heights of lupine grown under different sowing rates were found to be insignificant, the differences were significant in terms of stem diameter, number of branches, number of pods per plant, number of seeds per plant, thousand seed weight, seed yield, herbage yield and hay yield.Seed yieldwas between 258,11 - 552,29 kg/da.The herbage yield of lupine was between 2400,67 – 3600,33 kg/da. Hay yields were between 475,16 – 738,28 kg/da. As a result, it would be appropriate to lupine at sowing rate of 22 kg/da for seed and forage production under the conditions of İvrindi District of Balıkesir Province
Effects of Nettle (Urtica dioica) Extract on Versus Pathogenic Microorganisms in Yogurt Production
Contamination with pathogenic bacteria is the most common cause of foodborne illness and represents a public health problem worldwide. These pathogens can be controlled by adding extracts to fermented milk. In the present study, the effects of nettle extract on selected pathogenic bacteria in yogurt production were investigated. For this purpose, the antibacterial effectiveness of the extract additives in the presence of bacteria was examined and compared. Yoghurt samples, 24 different samples contaminated with 7 standard pathogen strains, were analyzed for chemical properties (pH and acidity) and antimicrobial activity after 1, 7, 14 and 21 days of storage at 4 °C. In particular, it was found that the decrease in pH and increase in acidity in the nettle extract samples after 21 days were significantly greater than in natural yogurt and yogurt samples containing nettle extract (0.5% and 1%, respectively) (p<0.05). Pathogens were reduced more significantly in samples treated with nettle extracts, which have antibacterial activity against pathogens. In particular, compared to natural yogurt, these samples showed significant antibacterial effects on the standard strains Streptococcus pneumoniae ATCC 45615, Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 70063 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 (p<0.01). Furthermore, in the samples containing nettle extract, the 1% concentration had synergistic effects on Streptococcus pneumoniae ATCC 45615, while the 0.5% concentration had synergistic effects on Klebsiella pneumoniae ATCC 70063 and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Overall, these results suggest that the nettle extract could be used as a natural preservative to improve the safety of yogurt and other dairy products
Sawtooth Signal Generator Using a Carbon-Based Memristor
It is possible to use the new electronic circuit element memristor in analog applications. Memristors or memristor emulators have already been applied in analog applications such as amplifiers, filters, oscillators, and chaotic circuits. In literature, it has been recently demonstrated that a memristor-based sawtooth signal generator can be built utilizing a memristor emulator and simulations with various memristor models. Such a sawtooth signal generator needs experimental verification with a memristor. Self-Directed Channel (SDC) Carbon-based Memristors are in the market now. Once, the memristor technology is mature enough, its applications may also follow soon. Any memristor application should be realized with a memristor, not an emulator. Knowm memristor has not been used to design a sawtooth signal generator in the literature previously. The aim of the study is to show that a sawtooth signal generator can be made using a Self-Directed Channel (SDC) Carbon-based Memristor and to examine it experimentally. The performance of this sawtooth signal generator is evaluated. The waveforms of the proposed circuit are also examined by varying its operating frequency. The simulation and experimental results are compared. Chemical Composition of Essential Oils of Medicinal Plants Grown in the Thrace Region in Türkiye, Hypericum perforatum L
Background: There are many active substances in the composition of the Hypericum perforatum L. plant that have different and complex structures and show different pharmacological effects. It was accepted as a medicinal plant by the World Health Organization in 2002, and it is given a detailed place in the monographs under the name Hyperici herba. In these monographs, the antibacterial, antiviral, antidepressant, protein kinase-C inhibitor, and wound-healing effects of the plant were described.Objectives: The aim of this study is to determine the essential oil components in the samples of the H. perforatum L. plant, which is widely grown in the Thrace region in Turkiye.Materials and Methods: H. perforatum L. plant growing naturally in the provinces of the Thrace region was collected, and the essential oils of the plant were obtained by using the hydro distillation method after the collected herbs were dried. Chemical content analyses were performed on a gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID).Results: The main components of the essential oil of the plant are sesquiterpenes (ss-caryophyllene, caryophyllene oxide, beta-selinene, alpha-selinene, beta-farnesene, alpha-amorphene, spathulenol), alcohols (1-tetradecanol, 1-tridecanol, phytol, and alpha cadinol), and fatty acids (pentadecanoic acid, palmitic acid, and 9, 12 octadecadienoic acid).Conclusion: This is the first study to determine the chemical composition of essential oil in H. perforatum L. samples collected from the Thrace region in Turkiye. Dağlı Eşkıyası Manav İbrahim'e Dair Bir Araştırma
Osmanlı Devleti’nin XVIII. ve XIX. yüzyılları, farklı kategorilerde tasnif edilen isyan hadiselerinin birbiri ardına patlak verdiği bir zaman aralığıdır. Bu isyan hadiselerinin en önemlilerinden birisi ise kuşkusuz 1791-1808 yılları arasında etkinliğini sürdüren dağlı isyanlarıdır. Kırcaali’de ortaya çıkan ve önü alınmaz bir şekilde Rumeli’nin her noktasına sirayet eden dağlı isyanları, tarihi çalışmalara araştırma konusu olan muhtelif isimleri miras bırakmıştır. Bu isimlerin en önemlilerinden biri de Manav İbrahim’dir. Manav İbrahim, dağlı eşkıyasının Rumeli’de etkin bir şekilde faaliyet gösterdiği zaman aralığı referans alınırsa nispeten kısa bir süreliğine adından bahsettirmiştir. Ancak kısa süreli etkinliğine rağmen Manav İbrahim’in yaşamı, dağlı eşkıyasının hangi iç dinamikler çerçevesinde türediğine ve faaliyet sahasını nasıl genişletebildiğine dair cevaplar barındırmaktadır. Bu bakımdan Manav İbrahim’e dair yapılan bir araştırma dağlı eşkıyasının profilini okumaya yardımcı olurken aynı zamanda Rumeli’de yaşanan kaotik döneme de ışık tutmaktadır. Bu çalışmada bir dağlı eşkıyası olarak tarihe mâl olan Manav İbrahim’in faaliyetleri kronolojik olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Bu minvalde cephede savaşmak üzere Anadolu’dan Rumeli’ye getirilen bir askerin zamanla nasıl eşkıya reisine dönüştüğü bilimsel veriler doğrultusunda incelenmektedir. Bu bağlamda Cumhurbaşkanlığı Osmanlı Arşivi ise çalışmaya dair temel referans noktası olmuştur
Can the SYNTAX score predict mortality in patients with cardiac arrest?
OBJECTIVE: Sudden cardiac death or arrest describes an unexpected cardiac cause-related death or arrest that occurs rapidly out of the hospital or in the emergency room. This study aimed to reveal the relationship between coronary angiographic findings and cardiac death secondary to acute MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients presenting with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction complicated with cardiac arrest were included in the study. The severity of coronary artery disease, coronary chronic total occlusion, coronary collateral circulation, and blood flow in the infarct-related artery were recorded. Patients were divided into two groups, namely, deaths secondary to cardiac arrest and survivors of cardiac arrest. RESULTS: A total of 161 cardiac deaths and 42 survivors of cardiac arrest were included. The most frequent (46.3%) location of the culprit lesion was on the proximal left anterior descending artery. The left-dominant coronary circulation was 59.1%. There was a difference in the SYNTAX score (16.3 +/- 3.8 vs. 13.6 +/- 1.9; p=0.03) and the presence of chronic total occlusion (19.2 vs. 0%; p=0.02) between survivors and cardiac deaths. A high SYNTAX score (OR: 0.38, 95%CI: 0.27-0.53, p<0.01) was determined as an independent predictor of death secondary to cardiac arrest. CONCLUSION: The chronic total occlusion presence and SYNTAX score may predict death after cardiac arrest secondary to ST-elevation myocardial infarction
