Directory of Open Access Journals with Special Reference to Agriculture: A Study
The research papers can be easily accessed from the publisher website by the different scientificcommunity. Furthermore, this accessibility can be done through the journal subscription paid byindividual/institutions or open access. In order to get more citations and updating knowledge on a particularresearch field, the accessibility of the paper by researchers in the same field is playing an important role.However, it is not possible to provide the accessibility of all journals available in the same research area tothe scientists due to huge money spent on subscription fees and also constraints use of limited library funds.Recently, the open accessed paper introduced by many journals to overcome this subscription barrier to theuser group and provides easy accessibility. This study explores the research output in the field of agricultureas reflected from the directory of open access journals available on the worldwide web. This paperinvestigates to find out the year wise output, topmost categories (subject, journals, country) and peer reviewin the research. The worldwide web analysis has also been taken up to identify the research output ofagriculture of Directory of Open Access Journals available. The present study analyzes the data collectedusing string "agriculture" in DOAJ database for the period 2003-2018. Results show that “Agriculture(General)” was ranked first for subject wise documents with records of 59 journals and 21177 articles.Indonesia have ranked first based on maximum journals published in the agricultural field. Out of 173journals, Sciendo group has published the highest number of journals. The maximum percentage of thereviewing process was found for double-blind peer review (45.09 %)
APPRAISAL OF SKILLS ACQUIRED FOR GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT BY GRADUATES OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION TRADE OF TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN EBONYI STATE
The study aimed at determining the level of skills and job performance of graduatesof electrical installation trade of technical colleges in Ebonyi State. The study was guided bytwo research questions that bordered on finding out practical skills acquired by graduates oftechnical colleges and the level of actual job performance. A descriptive research design wasadopted. The population of the study consisted of 97 respondents comprising 67 technicalcollege graduates of electrical installation trade and 30 work based supervisors in the state.Two sets of questionnaire were constructed based on practical work skills and jobperformance tasks within the clusters. Each of the questionnaire comprised of 30 items in thetask skill areas of electrical installation. The data collected was analyzed using mean andstandard deviation. The findings of` the study include among others that the graduates ofelectrical installation trade in technical colleges in Ebonyi State excellently acquired skills indomestic electrical installation. There was no significant difference between the meanresponses of graduates and work based supervisors on graduates’ job performance inelectrical installation trade. Graduates also expressed moderate skills acquisition and jobperformance in certain aspects of electrical installation. It was recommended that the teachersshould carry out a retraining for graduates that lacked skills and job performance in certainaspects of electrical installation trade work. 
CONSTRAINTS ENCOUNTERED BY FARMERS IN USAGE OF ICT TOOLS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE
The use of computers and technology today has become fundamental to the operation oforganizations and society. These allow the transfer of massive amounts of information in a matter of seconds,enabling humankind to advance in a multitude of ways. ICT provides the farmers with the latest technologies andimprove their farm income. Hence the present study was undertaken to find out the constraint encountered byfarmers in ICT utilization. The study revealed that the majority (90.83%) of the respondents encountered theproblem in ICT utilization were lack of training in handling ICT tools followed by lack of confidence inoperating ICT tools (85.83) and 75.83 per cent said lack of familarity of ICT tools and many other constraints.The study focused on constraints affecting the utilization of Information and Communication Technologies(ICT) for agricultural development .Data were derived from 120 respondents from 10 villages in one block
Adoption of Improved Dairy Management Practices by the Women Dairy Farmers in Deoghar District of Jharkhand
Study was conducted in deoghar district of Jharkhand to ascertain the extent of adoption of improved dairymanagement practices by the women dairy farmers. The data were collected from santhal region of Jharkhand. From santhalregion one district was selected purposively on the basis of large number of people doing dairy farming and the milk procuringunion of state is also situated in the district. Then from deoghar district deoghar block was selected purposively on the basis ofmaximum number of dairy farmers. From deoghar block Top five villages with maximum women dairy farmers was selectedpurposively. From each village 24 women dairy farmers were selected randomly. Thus, in total, 120 women dairy farmers wereselected, as the respondents for this study with the help of structure interview schedule. From the study it was observed thatmajority of the respondents (93.30%) ensure the sufficient supply of clean and fresh water to the animal, followed by 75.83 percent having awareness of heat symptoms, 86.60 per cent segregation of sick animals from healthy ones and 80.83 per centkeeping of animal loose in the shed. It was also observed that majority (56.66%) of respondents have medium level of adoptionabout improved dairy management practices followed by (22.5%) respondents have low level of adoption and 20.83 per centhave high level of adoption about improved dairy management practice
Effect of Pretreatment and Packaging Materials on Quality of Spinach Powder During Storage
The study was conducted at School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, ShobhitUniversity, Gangoh, Saharanpur, U.P. to evaluate the effect of control sample (unblanched) spinachleaves and hot water blanched sample on shelf-life of spinach powder and to evaluate the effect of watertreatments, chemical composition such as moisture content, fat content and ash content were carried out.Sensory analysis of colour, texture, aroma and overall acceptability were carried out according to 9 pointhedonic scale. To evaluate the shelf-life of spinach powder packed in High Density Polyethylene (HDPE),Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and Poly propylene (PP) packaging materials, Total plate count (TPC)and yeast & mould counts were carried out. The results showed that unblanched sample was moresuitable according to fat and ash content. For moisture content hot water blanched sample was morefavourate. PP excelled than HDPE and LDPE as a packaging material to store spinach powder for a longperiod of time. According to sensory score, hot water blanched sample was more favourate by the panelistthan unblanched sample. With increase in storage period TPC and yeast & mould increased but hot waterblanched sample showed less growth of TPC and yeast & mould when compared to unblanched sample.PP showed less microbial count than the HDPE and LDPE, so it is most suitable for spinach powderpackaging for a long period of time
A Study on Knowledge Level of Recommended Cultivation Practices of Hybrid Castor in North Western Zone of Tamil Nadu
The study was under taken on hybrid castor cultivation in Tamil Nadupredominantly concentrated in North western region. To assess the farmers’ knowledge onhybrid castor production technology, the present study was undertaken in two districts ofTamil Nadu state. From each districts, two blocks were selected. From each blocks, fourvillages were selected. Exactly 120 castor growers were selected proportionately from eightselected villages. It was found that in the sampled population, majority of hybrid castorgrowers (79.20 per cent) had medium level of knowledge, followed by high (11.60 per cent)and low (9.20 per cent) level of knowledge about hybrid castor cultivation practices. Thefinding also revealed that out of 14 variables, six viz., annual income, extension agencycontact, mass media exposure, scientific orientation, risk orientation and economic motivationhad shown a positive and significant relationship with knowledge at one per cent level ofsignificance. The variable experience in castor cultivation alone showed a positive andsignificant relationship with knowledge at five per cent level of significance. The values ofregression co-efficient of the variables, experience in castor cultivation and risk orientationwere found to be positive and significant at one per cent level of probability. The variablesnamely mass media exposure, innovativeness and risk orientation were found to be positiveand significant at five per cent level of probability. 
Impact of Recommended Bio-Fertilizers Technologies on Yield of Soybean in Ujjain District of M.P.
Agriculture production depends on availability and use of quality and quantity of farm inputs. Thechemical fertilizer is supposed to be an essential input for boosting up agricultural production. It had played asignificant role in increasing agriculture production in the country. However, the continuous use of chemicalfertilizers had deteriorated soil fertility, destroyed soil microbial activity and disturbed environmental balance andecological soundness. Soil is biologically active and home to a wide range of living organisms, including soilmicrobes, earthworms and growing plant roots. Recommended dose of bio-fertilizers are believed in the potentialalternative to chemical fertilizer in improvement of soil fertility for sustainable crop production. e.g. Rhizobium +Phosphotika at 200 gm each per 10 kg of seed as seed treatment are recommended for pulses such as pigeonpea,green gram, black gram, cowpea etc, groundnut and soybean. Azotobacter + Phosphotika at 200 gm eachper 10 kg of seed as seed treatment are useful for the crops. For this study 120 respondents were taken as sample ofbio-fertilizer users from the Ujjain district of M.P. to collect the data. This index consisted of sixteencomponents of use of bio-fertilizers in soybean production technologies disseminated to the respondentsthrough various KVK program. Hence, researcher is interested to see the impact of bio-fertilizer in soybean cropin Ujjain district with 120 respondents were the sample of bio-fertilizer users in the study. The major finding wasobtained Out of total 60 beneficiary respondents 60.00 per cent of respondents had medium production of soybeanuse of bio-fertilizers, 25.00 per cent high production group whereas only 15.00 per cent beneficiary low productionof soybean in use of bio-fertilizers while out of 60 non beneficiary farmers, higher percentage of the respondentsi.e., 51.67 per cent belonged to medium production of use of bio-fertilizers in soybean crop followed by low and highproduction grou
Effect of Vermicompost, Nitrogen and Phosphorus Growth and Flower Yield of African Marigold (Tagetes erecta L.)
The results of field study conducted at School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences,Shobhit University, Gangoh, Saharanpur, U.P., India during 2016-2017 evaluated thePerformance of marigold var. Pusa Basanti Gainda to various manures and fertilizers levels.The productivity and quality of flowers is greatly influenced by the quantity and source ofnutrients. The experiment were laid out in a randomized block design with three replicationsand eight treatment combinations comprised of organic manure (Vermicompost) and NPfertilizers. Application of vermicompost, phosphorus and nitrogen conjointly at arecommended dose of 5000, 80 and 120 kg ha-1 respectively, was most effective inenhancing the vegetative growth parameters, such as plant height, number of branches, plantspread, as well as flower yield parameters viz. number of flowers, flower circumference,plant height, fresh weight of flowers, flower yield, flowering duration, number of leave andbranches per plant etc as compared to that of control samples. Thus, use of inorganicfertilizers in combination with organic manures resulted in excellent vegetative growth andflower yield attributes in African marigold
Postharvest Handling and Assessment of Losses of Freshly Harvested Selected Vegetables
The immense diversity in agro-climatic condition across the country enables India to produce largeamount of vegetables with current production around 71 million MT, however, per capita availability is onlyabout 180 gram as against recommended 300 gm per capita. This is due to huge losses of vegetables afterharvest per year, nearly 40% fruits and vegetables are lost. Several factors are responsible for the damages &losses of the fresh produce. One of the major problems is lack of awareness and knowledge about how to handlefresh harvested vegetables. Proper postharvest handling can reduce losses of freshly vegetables and alsomaintained the product quality up to final consumption. Postharvest handling and losses of tomato, brinjal,okra, and leafy vegetables were evaluated from harvest to consumer market. This study was taken to identifypostharvest operations followed and assessment of losses at various post-harvest handling stages; at farmers,APMC and retailers level. A standard questionnaire was prepared for collection of data and survey.At farmers level losses were observed in the range of 6-10, 2-6, 1-2, and 0.5 percent in tomato, brinjal, okra andleafy vegetables respectively. While 5-10, 5-8, 3-5 and 3.5 percent losses were observed at APMC level in leafyvegetables, tomato, brinjal and okra respectively. Whereas losses in the range of 9-16, 6-10, 2-4 and 2-3 percentwere observed in leafy vegetables, tomato, okra and brinjal retailers’ level. Maximum losses were observed intomato followed by leafy vegetable, brinjal and okra. This paper describes the various postharvest handling oftomato, brinjal, okra and leafy vegetables at three different levels. 
A STUDY ON THE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES OF BANANA GROWERS IN FAKHARPUR BLOCK OF BAHRAICH DISTRICT OF UTTAR PRADESH
Banana is the second important fruit of the world after apples. After rice, wheat and milkproducts, it is the fourth important food item in terms of total production. This is a very ancient fruit ofIndia whose social and economic aspect is very important. In the northern eastern region of India,banana is used as medicine for the treatment of various diseases. The share of banana in India's totalfruit production is 31.72 percent and it is the world's largest banana producing nation. Commercialcultivation of banana occurs in about 23 territories in India in hot and temperate conditions. It is notcultivated in India only where there is excessive cold. There are limitless possibilities for cultivation ofbanana in the areas of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar East, and UttarPradesh. The study was conducted in Fakharpur block of Bahraich district Uttar Pradesh. Bahraichdistrict being more concentration of banana cultivation in district (4000 ha). From this district, oneblock, were purposively selected on the basis of large area under banana production. From these blockten villages of banana growers and from each village 12 banana growers were selected for this study.Majority of the respondents (50.00) belong to the medium level of knowledge and (48.33%) were fallingunder medium level of adoption
