    Get PDF
The Sokobanja basin is an area in Eastern Serbia with diverse geological and geomorphological features. Also, it is an area with developed spa tourism. The Sokobanja basin has numerous geoheritage features, which tourist potential has not been discovered yet. In this article, several geosites were analyzed, which present significant geoheritage formations. Geosites were selected by authors of this article based on the degree of their attractiveness for the geotourism development. The main goal of this article is to emphasize the geotourism potential of the Sokobanja basin and to determine the current state and geotourism potential of evaluated geosites by applying the modified geosite assessment model (M-GAM). A total of seven geosites were evaluated throughout the basin. The values of the investigated parameters were entered into the matrix of the M-GAM based on the number of points. Based on the research and the results obtained, it can be concluded that the Sokobanja basin has the potential for the development of geotourism, but it is necessary to improve additional values to become a true geotourism destination

The paper analyzed the impact of tourism development on changes in the employed population in the service sectors by individual activities. The aim of this paper is to point out the relationship between changes in the number of tourists and changes in the number of employed population in service activities. The area of research is limited to the territory of the city of Belgrade. It cover an area of 3.223km2 . The basic methodological procedures used for research are mathematical - statistical methods: Pearson's correlation coefficient (r), testing the significance of the correlation coefficient (t test) and causal relationship (R). By applying the mentioned methods, a strong connection has been established between the growth of tourist traffic and the growth of the number of employed population in the service delivery activities on the territory of Belgrade

The aim of this paper is to identify the most suitable locations for the construction of Solar Photovoltaic Plants (PVP) on the territory of the City of Belgrade (Republic of Serbia). The city is rich in natural resources and abundant in energy potential. The climatic and spatial characteristics favor the use of solar energy: the average annual solar radiation in Belgrade is 1446.8 kWh/m(2)/year, and the sunshine duration is around 2200 h/year. The analysis covered the area of 3240.7 km(2) (administrative area of Belgrade). Geospatial evaluation was based on three basic criteria: aspect, slope and land use. The Method of elimination in combination with modern methods in geospatial research (GIS) was applied. Based on the mentioned geospatial factors, thematic maps were made and later, their overlapping resulted in obtaining a synthesis Map of the suitability of the terrain for the construction of the PV plants. Of the total considered area, 13.68% were evaluated as suitable for the given purpose

Dynamics and factors of localisation of knowledge intensive business services in Belgrade

The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the types and trends of spatial concentration and distribution of knowledge intensive business services (KIBS) in Belgrade, examine the relations between processes of post-socialist urban restructuring and KIBS localisation, evaluate KIBS localisation factors and to generate a model of their intraurban location. Special attention is given to the intrasectoral differences of KIBS in patterns and dynamics of territorial distribution. The territory of the Master Plan Belgrade was taken as the scope of the study. The time span of the study refers to the period of “delayed” transition in Belgrade. This study is based on microgeographical data on KIBS firms and a complex methodology that includes various methods of spatial analysis of concentration, distribution and dynamics of economic activities, as well as the regression method used for modeling KIBS localisation. The results of the research indicate that the spatial distribution of KIBS in Belgrade is characterised by a high degree of concentration and centrality. The KIBS firms and employees are concentrated in the city core area, which consists of two centers: the central zone and the New Belgrade center, and their density gradually decreases from the center to the periphery of the city. The analysis of the dynamics of KIBS spatial distribution in Belgrade indicates a spatially limited decentralisation of low intensity, which further accentuates the dichotomy between the center and city periphery. Limited decentralisation indicates the transformation of the monocentric into a centralised duocentric model of KIBS spatial distribution. The differentiation of a new KIBS center in New Belgrade has followed fundamental post-socialist changes in the city's spatial and socio-economic structure. Also, the results of the research highlight the influence of intersectoral structure, ownership structure and size of firms on the process of KIBS localisation in Belgrade. The results of the KIBS localisation model indicate that the location of KIBS depends on the localisation economy, city’s business zones, commercial areas and major city roads, which have a positive impact, while population density has a negative impact on the localisation of KIBS.Ova disertacija bavi se analizom tipova i trendova prostorne koncentracije i razmeštaja znanjem intenzivnih poslovnih usluga (KIBS) u Beogradu, ispitivanjem veza i odnosa između procesa postsocijalističkog restrukturiranja gradskog prostora i lokalizacije KIBS-a, evaluiranjem faktora lokalizacije KIBS-a i generisanjem modela njihovog prostornog razmeštaja. Ograničena decentralizacija podrazumeva transformaciju monocentričnog u centralizovani duocentričani model prostornog razmeštaja KIBS-a.

Najzastupljeniji oblik ispoljavanja manifestacija u Srbiji jesu muzički festivali i događaji koji čine suštinski deo lokalnih zajednica, njihovih kultura i obeležja pojedinih destinacija.

The Bounds of Demography in Gender Research

    Get PDF
The paper discusses the extent to which gender issues are included in demographic research and the potential of the population science for illuminating gender issues. The discussion is based on the theoretical and methodological characteristics of demogra phy. The nature of the relationship between women’s status and demographic outcomes is emphasized, as well as the transition of the research focus from “the diferences in demographic characteristics of the two sexes” to “gender inequalities as a principle of organization of society” and the factor of the demographic behavior. It also discusses the formal character of demography and the bounds of demographic analysis based on quantitative methods, as well as the current and future relevance of data in unraveling the phenomenology of gender. On the other hand, the paper emphasizes the social and anthropological character of demography, which is often neglected. An important part of the discussion is the presentation of the critical thinking of demographers themselves about their science’s research potential, especially from an epistemological perspective. In reviewing the pertinent literature, a chronological approach was followed in order to determine the developmental tendencies of the connections between gender and demography. Finally, the specifcities and underutilized capacities of the population science in gender research are indicated

Global-Local Knowledge Exchange and the Emergence of Translocal Spaces in the City: The Case of Belgrade

    Get PDF
The focus of this paper is exploration of translocal spaces through examination of global-local knowledge exchange between middling migrants and ‘cosmopolitan’ locals in semi-peripheral urban contexts. Translocal spaces are taken as concrete places (workplace, venue of business meeting, places for entertainment and recreation, public spaces, etc.) where interactions between middling migra nts and the local population occur and where global and local knowledge, experience and practice are exchanged. The analysis is based on the results of qualitative research conducted in Belgrade (from November 2018 to March 2019). The sample is composed of 42 respondents: 21 middling migrants (well-educated transmigrants employed in international companies, developmental agencies, embassies and universities) and 21 ‘cosmopolitan’ locals (Serbian employees in international companies and agencies who have been educated abroad and/or have a rich experience of working in a multinational environment). The paper focuses on two aspects: (1) opportunities and obstacles for globallocal knowledge exchange; and (2) spaces in Belgrade where this exchange most frequently occurs and that, as a consequence, become translocal

Pravni okvir lokalnih samouprava i naselja na području Smederevskog i Braničevskog Podunavlja u 20. i 21. veku

Smederevsko i Braničevsko Podunavlje obuhvata prostor adminstrativnih jedinica Smederevo, Požarevac, Kostolac, Veliko Gradište i Golubac.

Transforming metropolitan regions - evidence from Belgrade

    Get PDF
The paper seeks to identify and assess the polarising, indirect and direct favourable influence of Belgrade, as the capital and the largest city in Serbia, in the development of settlements and centres within its administrative area, i.e. the territory administratively named the City of Belgrade. The paper includes an analysis of demographic trends, including commuting trends, and the functional and morphological changes in the settlements of the Belgrade region between 1971 and 2011. Various analytical and synthetic methods have been used to assess the investigated territory's degree of transformation, including both positive effects and the negative consequences of the impact of various factors. Suburban areas are not clearly delimited. Belgrade's urban area is not marked by social segregation. The initial hypothesis that the Belgrade region underwent a complex and multifaceted transformation has been confirmed, which will significantly determine future planning solutions, especially as regards the identified causes of the transformation, the factors of which have not been significantly changed in the transition, post-socialist period. The appropriateness of development planning measures and governing policies in this area is of crucial importance for the country as a whole
