Ecotourism on salaš farms in Vojvodina as a green economic activity
The green economy is becoming a norm in the business operations of companies of
various economic activities, and has also found its application in tourism and
hospitality. In efforts to make the green economy more ecologically responsible,
various types of tourism were first developed, which support such a concept, but also
types of accommodation facilities, branches of traffic and means of transport, and
agricultural products which follow the concept of sustainable development. The
mentioned concept strives for the sustainability of nature and development that
positively affects society and the environment, and ecotourism certainly has a
decisive influence in this. The tourism offer of Vojvodina salaš farms and their
revitalization can have multiple positive effects, not only for households (owners of
farms), but also for local communities, as well as the entire rural area. The main goal
of the paper is to determine, on the basis of a survey, whether traditional combined
with modern trends in tourist movements can be a strong motivating factor for
attracting tourists to Vojvodina salaš farms. The focus is on determining the impact
and role of ecotourism and the green economy by researching salaš farms which,
according to various criteria (accommodation capacity, offer of organic agricultural
products, ecotourism...), are declared as green, and indicates which among them
have significant potential. The results can serve as a useful guideline for managers of
the tourism and hospitality industry to conceive or innovate such an offer and
successfully market it on the domestic and international tourism market.Urednici: Larisa Jovanović, Vadim Ermakov, Suzana Balaba
To podrazumeva sticanje funkcionalnih znanja, razvijanje veština i navika, kao i formiranje stavova o ekološkim osobenostima i zakonima u životnoj sredini. Urednici: Dejan Filipović, Velimir Šećerov, Dejan S. Evaluating Farm Tourism Development for Sustainability: A Case Study of Farms in the Peri-Urban Area of Novi Sad (Serbia)
Farm tourism is often considered a form of tourism whose main characteristic is sustainability. Nevertheless, the existing literature also provides a partial approach, where the development
of farm tourism is analyzed within the context of sustainable development and crisis situations, such
as the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the paper is to analyze environmental, social, and economic
factors as vectors for the sustainable development of farm tourism by applying a specially designed
SFT model. An empirical study was carried out on a sample of nine farms in the peri-urban area of
the city of Novi Sad (the Republic of Serbia). Sustainable development was analyzed using dynamic
social, economic, and environmental indicators with the aim of finding a model that could be used to
ensure more stable economic income for the population, social equality, and environmental protection.
By applying the SFT model, it was determined that the current position of farm tourism is not fully
compliant with the aims of sustainable development due to its clearly dominant economic dimension
and less developed social and environmental sustainability. The results were further analyzed with
the aim of achieving a balanced development of farm tourism, which needs to be based on the
continued application of the concept of sustainability. The results could be used by public and private
institutions in the tourism sector, as well as creators of legal regulations and strategies in the field of
sustainable and rural tourism, with the aim of further developing and improving its sustainability
A Statistical Analysis of Temperature and Precipitation in Belgrade, Serbia (1961-2020)
The most significant effects of climate change are related to temperature and precipitation. Changes in precipitation and temperature patterns affect water resource capacity, agricultural activities, global biodiversity and emergency management. In this study, using two statistical models (Mann-Kendall and Pettit’s test), climate data for the territory of Belgrade in the time interval 1961-2020 were processed. Trends were analyzed: average annual temperatures, average monthly temperatures, annual and monthly precipitation amounts. The aim of the research is to determine the statistical significance of the increasing/decreasing temperature and precipitation trends on a monthly and annual basis. Based on the obtained results, it was determined that the changing point of the annual temperature is in 1997, while a statistically significant increasing trend was observed in all months except November. The increasing trend recorded by the precipitation amount is 0.345 mm/year, but without statistical significance. The most significant results corresponding to July and October
Snow Avalanche Hazard Prediction Using the Best-Worst Method—Case Study: The Šar Mountains, Serbia
Snow avalanches are one of the most frequent natural hazards in high mountain regions. In this study, a map of the susceptibility of the Šar Mountains to snow avalanches was determined. The study area is located in the southern part of Serbia, which has the Status of a National park. Geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing are used to analysis and cartographical presentation of nine the most important elements of natural conditions which have an influence on avalanche development. Then, by applying the best-worst method (BWM) for each of the criteria was given a weighting coefficient depending on its importance for the avalanche occurrence. A synthetic map of snow avalanche susceptibility was created by processing geospatial data in the GIS software. The obtained results show that high susceptibility covers 16.9% of the territory, while 10.7% of the total area is very highly susceptible. The final results may be useful to decision-makers, local self-governments, emergency management services, and mountaineering services to mitigate human and material losses from snow avalanches. This study is the first to use the BWM methodology for snow avalanche hazard analysis.Editors: Jafar Rezaei, Matteo Brunelli, Majid Mohammad
Impact of the War in Croatia (1991–1995) on the Differentiation of Age Structure between Serbs and Croats: A Case Study of the Banija Region
Aging is the subject of various studies by the scientific community and monitoring by responsible institutions. The intensity of aging and the proportion of age groups among various communities differ due to different socio-economic conditions and characteristics. This article researches the impact of the war in Croatia 1991–1995 and postwar living conditions on the divergence of population aging in the ethnically heterogeneous Banija region. The first postwar census in 2001 recorded population decline by 44.9% compared to the 1991 census. We analyze the effects of the war on changes in ethnic and age structure, as well as their interrelations. The quantitative and qualitative magnitude of these demographic changes in the inter-census period had a decisive influence on the correlation of age and ethnic structure. The article examines whether the relative share of Serbs or Croats in the total population of a settlement affects the average age of the settlement. The results confirmed that the Serbs are older than the Croats, as well as the Serbs are in the phase of the most advanced demographic age. These changes raise the question of the demographic future and the biological viability of the Serbs, who were the majority in the region before the war
AP Kosovo and Metohija is a unique geographical area in Europe, during which the most complex demographic processes, caused by: political conflicts, the NATO bombing of 1999, and took place during the 20th century and the first decades of the 21st century: killing, ethnic cleansing, persecution and segregation of the population. Since June 1999, about 220,000 people were displaced from Kosovo and Metohija. Most of them were Serbs, followed by non-Albanian populations: Montenegrins, Gorans, Roma and Ashkali. The mass persecution of the Serb and other non-Albanian populations has resulted in tremendous changes in the ethnic structure of the Province. Previously, heterogeneous settlements became ethnically homogeneous with a dominant Albanian population. With 93% of the total population Albanians is dominated, while other ethnic communities have a participation of 7%.
Initial results of the colorimetric indices of the oldest exposed pedocomplex (Titel loess plateau, Serbia)
In this study we present an in-depth description of the colorimetric values for the lowest section of the Dukatar Loess Palaeosol Sequence (LPS) pedocomplex S5. Formed during the Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 13-15, it represents the oldest pedocomplex exposed at the base of the Titel loess plateau (TLP), near the confluence of the Tisa and Danube rivers in Vojvodina (northern Serbia). The results of low-field magnetic susceptibility measurements (χlf) were compared to colour properties (obtained by conventional methods as well as instrumental measuring) and quantified Soil Development Indices (SDI). Of these measurements we found that the Redness Index (RI1) yielded the most useful results, as this index appears most sensitive to lithological changes and soil development intensity. It was also observed that a high level of correlation existed between χlf, and a* chromaticity. The initial results of this study highlight the utility of colorimetric methods as an interdisciplinary tool when evaluating the presence of ferromagnetics, and the application of rock magnetism to the Middle and Upper Pleistocene LPS of the Middle Danube Basin. The presented approach can be used to observe the evolution of climatic and ecological conditions in the given study area, and for establishing correlations between sites extending over the Eurasian LPS provinces. © 2023, Croatian Geological Survey. Did the Covid-19 Pandemic Change Internal Rural Migration Patterns in Serbia?
Recent empirical research on internal migration has focused on the change in migration volume, before and after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, by the degree of urbanization. Less is known about the types of rural areas that are attracting internal migrants. This study aims to explore the changes in internal rural migration patterns in Serbia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the types of rural settlements as places of destinations and types of urban settlements as places of the origin of migrants. Relying on the additionally processed official national annual statistical data for the period 2018–2021, we offer findings on the differences in volume and socio-demographic characteristics of migrants across six internal migration flows (from small towns, medium-sized towns, and large cities, to suburban and non-suburban rural settlements). The results reveal that the pandemic affected an increase of rural–rural migration as well as rural in-migration from mediumsized towns. We also find that after an initial drop in values for in- and out-migration rates in 2020, relocation intensity exceeded the pre-pandemic level in 2021, with a positive net migration rate for all age groups except 15–30. The unfavorable economic characteristics of rural in-migrants shifted slightly in pandemic years since the share of active and population with personal means rose in non-suburban settlements, while the percentage of dependent population decreased. The opposite holds for suburban settlements
