The Gaia-X 4 Advanced Mobility Services (AMS) project is part of the “Gaia-X 4 Future Mobility” project family and focuses on the development of future mobility applications using the Gaia-X data and services ecosystem. Gaia-X-4 AMS addresses relevant aspects that are crucial for the implementation of use cases in the field of “connected and automated driving.” The goal is to define and implement a data and service landscape that describes the Gaia X data space for mobility. This includes both the data itself and the necessary data interfaces and basic services, such as security mechanisms, architecture, etc. Another central focus of the project is on the management of the underlying IT resources within the framework of capacity management. Furthermore, the goal is to design the data space based on the Gaia-X specifications in such a way that sector coupling will be possible seamlessly and efficiently. To this end, established technologies will be used, above all the International Data Space (IDS). Continental is responsible for the sub-project: “Specification based on requirements analysis and hardware and software implementation of the overall system for environmental perception in the vehicle, as well as use and connection of collective vehicle data to the Gaia-X ecosystem.

The collaborative project MOREALIS focuses on the conception, development, and testing of a system-specific approach for the early detection of medical emergencies in pilots of ultralight (UL) aircraft during flight operations. Continuous monitoring and thus timely detection of unfitness to fly enable a safe, automated landing using the activated autopilot. The core of the project is the continuous recording of selected medical and cognitive parameters, their evaluation using an adapted early warning system, and the integration of this information into a comprehensive system to support decision-making, culminating in the automated initiation of intervention measures (e.g., flight abort or emergency landing). The project culminated in the development of a complete system that monitors parameters during flight and triggers intervention management. This significantly contributes to flight and pilot safety. The system can also be applied in other fields, such as the automotive industry and control centers, and represents an important contribution to the further development of future assistance and safety systems for emergencies

State of the art Several projects, such as AStriD in Potsdam and MAAS in Darmstadt, have already achieved initial success in autonomous and remote-controlled tram operation, particularly in depot areas. At the same time, VDV publication 890 defined requirements for automated depots, which the SmarTram project used and expanded to include scenarios in the urban network. Despite this progress, fully autonomous trams remain an unattained goal, with driving on sight in real city traffic remaining the biggest hurdle. Objective The main objective of the project is to develop and improve technical solutions for exploiting automation potential in tram transport. A particular challenge lies in environmental recognition and safe interaction with other road users, as trams operate ‘on sight’. Basic safety requirements, functional scopes and interfaces between vehicles, infrastructure and operations are to be defined. These findings will serve as the basis for the development of future industry-wide standards for automated tram operation. Ultimately, the project aims to reduce operating costs, increase transport capacity and improve safety levels for passengers and staff. Results The project successfully developed technical solutions for the partial automation of trams, using CVAG line 5 and a Tatra T3D-M as a prototype. A comprehensive system architecture was designed for the vehicle and based on this, central driving functions for automated operation were developed. These functions and the operating behavior were validated by detailed simulations in order to evaluate their efficiency and safety. In addition, the necessary communication interfaces between the individual vehicle components and the infrastructure were defined. A key result is the construction of a test vehicle in which the developed sensor and control technology was integrated. The functionality of the overall system was successfully demonstrated through extensive test setups and system validations, including practical driving tests
