Analysis of the vehicle: applying finite element method of 3D data
Systems that allow engineering studies to be done in a virtual environment with computer software, to test designs in a virtual environment and to carry out design verification studies are developing day by day. The Finite Element Method (FEM) is a method used to simulate structurally with strength visualizations, production and weight determination, proper management of materials and costs, and numerically predict how a part or assembly behaves under certain conditions with Finite Element Analysis (FEA). In this paper, control of connection elements, material and mesh (solid, surface and volume) controls and preliminary analysis processes were carried out after transferring a 3D data with defined material and connection elements to Ls-DYNA program to perform Finite Element Analysis. As a result of the preliminary analysis, the crash test of the car with the wall was carried out with the Ls-DYNA program of the model, which is suitable for Finite Element analysis. The results of the crash test were interpreted in the Ls-DYNA program. In this study, it is aimed to understand the results according to time, car displacement and speed as a result of the collusion of the car with the wall
Identification of shallow cracks in rotating systems by utilizing convolutional neural networks and persistence spectrum under constant speed condition
The positive benefits of early faults detection in rotating systems have led scientists to develop automated methods. Although unbalancing is the most prevalent defect in rotor systems, this fault normally is accompanied by other defects such as crack. In this article, an effective self-acting procedure is addressed in identifying shallow cracks in rotor systems throughout the steady-state operation. To classify rotor systems suffering cracks with three various depths, firstly, healthy and cracked systems are modeled by employing the finite element method (FEM). In the following, systems' vibration signals are calculated in different situations numerically; for pre-processing stage, the persistence spectrum is implemented. Finally, by using a supervised convolutional neural network (CNN), rotor systems are classified by regarding the crack depths. The result of the testing step revealed that this hybrid method has rational capacity in distinguishing shallow cracks in steady-state operation where many other methods are somehow powerless
Significance of fin tip temperature on the heat transfer rate and thermal efficiency of a convective-radiative rectangular fin with variable thermal conductivity
In this work, effect of fin tip temperature on the rate of heat transfer and thermal efficiency of a rectangular convective-radiative fin with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity is analyzed using differential transformation method. The results of the power series solutions are verified numerically, and very good agreements are established. Also, the symbolic solutions are used to examine the effects of the conductive-convective and nonlinear thermal conductivity parameters on the thermal performance of the passive device. It is found that when the nonlinear thermal conductivity parameter increases, the fin tip temperature increases. However, the temperature at the tip of the fin decreases as the conductive-convective parameter increases. The thermal efficiency of the fin increases as the fin tip temperature and nonlinear thermal conductivity parameters are augmented but an increase conductive-convective parameter causes the fin tip temperature and the thermal efficiency of the extended surface to reduce. An increase in the conductive-convective parameter causes decrease the temperature distribution and thermal efficiency in the passive device. However, the efficiency of the fin increases as the nonlinear thermal conductivity parameter increases. When nonlinear thermal conductivity and conductive-convective parameters increase, the rate of heat transfer at the fin base increases. The developed analytical solutions provide a good platform for the nonlinear thermal analysis of the fin and proper design of the extended surfaces in thermal systems
Launchable rotary wing UAV designs and launch mechanism designs for rotary wing UAV
In recent years, rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles have been used in many areas. Rotary wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can carry different payloads according to their duties. For example; if they carry cameras, they are used for reconnaissance / surveillance, cargo if they carry cargo, agriculture if they carry pesticides, mapping if they carry an advanced camera and mapping system, and communication if they carry a base station or relay. Rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles are usually commanded to take off manually by a trained UAV operator. Before takeoff, the rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle is prepared for take-off by the UAV operator and this preparation takes approximately five minutes. It takes time for rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles to take off from the runway and reach their cruising speed, causing time loss in critical areas. A rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle launch assembly and a rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle with an opening mechanism that can open the thrust arms after launch and continue to fly can be the solution to this time loss. Rotary-wing drones capable of launching and without the intervention of the UAV operator will play an important role in emergency response and defense, where situational awareness is often required. For example; firefighters responding to fires can take advantage of the ability to quickly launch rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles from a stationary or moving fire truck. Thanks to the day / thermal camera on the launched rotary wing unmanned aerial vehicles, valuable information can be obtained about the progress of the fire and the damage caused by the fire. Thanks to rapid awareness, the fire can be intervened and fought faster. Similarly, military personnel can quickly deploy launchable rotary-wing drones for reconnaissance and surveillance and perform their duties. In order to be applicable to various types of missions, it is important that the rotary wing unmanned aerial vehicle be portable and low in volume. Since the launchable rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle proposed in the thesis has an arm release mechanism after launch, it can automatically open and generate thrust after launching its arms. In this way, it helps lower volume coverage before being launched. This also reduces air friction during launch. It can be deployed to autonomous systems effortlessly as it has closed package, mobile and self-arm management. Different mechanisms will be studied to create an efficient design. A mechanism that allows it to open its arms in a short time will be used in the self-arm-opening management design. Throwable rotary wing unmanned aerial vehicle and launch mechanism will be designed and 3D printers will be used for prototype
Emotional intelligence developing training program’s impact on teachers’ psycho-emotional state
Teachers’ profession is widely described as a mentally challenging one, often leading to burnout. As emotional exhaustion is higher among representatives of this occupation in comparison to other highly emotionally challenging professions, it is important to help teachers gain necessary skills and tools in order to maintain good emotional and overall wellbeing, and effectively cope with daily stressors. The aim of the study described in this paper was to assess the impact of a 5-module emotional intelligence developing training program on teachers’ psycho-emotional health. Study sample consisted of 45 teachers, who took part in the study, filling in the research questionnaires before and after the completion of the designed training program. Participants were asked to subjectively rate their level of stress and other parameters, defining their subjective wellbeing. Results of the study revealed that after completing the training program, participants indicated a statistically significantly lower level of stress (p< 0.01). Also, participants’ subjective evaluation of the quality of their social relationships and their overall wellbeing was significantly higher (p< 0.01) after the training program completion
Electrolytic plasma polishing of NiTi alloy
Nitinol is widely used in the production of medical devices, especially the ones that are designed for minimally invasive treatment, such as stents to restore vascular patency, stent grafts to eliminate aneurysms, and cava filters to trap blood clots. One of the most important characteristics that determines the reliability of the functioning of such products in the human body is the state of the surface layer. The higher the surface quality, the less negative impact is on the circulatory system, the walls of blood vessels and the higher the biological compatibility of the product. Electrochemical polishing methods are mainly used to improve the surface quality of nitinol products. The disadvantage of the applied electrochemical methods is the need to use aggressive electrolytes that contain toxic components, such as hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid, perchloric acid, nitric acid, methanol. As an alternative to the existing methods of electrochemical polishing, we have developed electrolytic-plasma polishing (EPP), a new highly efficient process for improving the surface quality of nitinol products. The most important advantage of the method over traditional electrochemical polishing is the use of aqueous salt solutions with a concentration of 4 % as electrolytes. Based on the results of the studies performed, the most rational EPP mode was established, the use of which during polishing of nitinol provides surface cleaning from scale, polishing with a decrease in the roughness parameter Ra by 0.344 µm and an increase in pitting potential by 33 %
Mathematical modeling of forced oscillations of semidefinite vibro-impact system sliding along rough horizontal surface
The paper considers the motion conditions of a semidefinite vibratory system placed upon a rough horizontal surface. Such systems are sometimes called unrestrained or degenerate ones, and are usually used in various vibration-driven robots and capsules. Unlike the numerous existent investigations dedicated to a similar subject, the novelty of the present paper consists in the implementation of a crank mechanism for exciting oscillations of a double-mass vibro-impact system setting into planar locomotion a robot’s movable body. A general design diagram of the improved semidefinite vibro-impact system is proposed, and the corresponding mechanical diagram is considered. The differential equations describing the system sliding (planar locomotion) along a rough horizontal surface are derived. A thorough analysis of the main inertia-stiffness, design, and excitation parameters influencing the system motion conditions is carried out. Performing the numerical modeling in MathCad software, the dynamic behavior of the robot’s movable body is studied under the specified system’s parameters and operational conditions
