Numerical analysis of a vertical rotor rub system partially immersed in inviscid incompressible fluid

    Get PDF
Two-dimensional linearized Navier-Stokes equations have been used to model the inviscid fluid forces acting on a vertical rotor-cylindrical stator system partially immersed in an inviscid incompressible fluid. The response of the fluid-stator-system subjected to subsequent fault feature extraction. The influences of parameters of the fluid system, among them, fluid density, and mass ratio on the unstable contact zones are analyzed. It is shown that for an effective prediction of rub-impact in a submerged rotor system, the influence of the fluid mass on the stability of the system is an important dynamic factor. It is revealed, that the fluid forces increase the amplitude of vibration, while the frequency of oscillation is reduced, phenomena that stabilise the isotropic vertical rotor-stator system

Dynamics of osteoblasts during bone remodeling cycle

    Get PDF
Bone is a dynamic connective tissue which adjusts to load variations through continuous bone remodeling, which occurs due to the dynamic behavior of bone cells. Many researchers made attempts in obtaining the dynamic characteristics of osteoblasts and its role in bone remodeling cycle. While making an effort to understand the effects of mechanical stimuli on the osteoblast, certain ambiguity is observed in the past literatures. This paper is to demonstrate the dynamics of osteoblast cells and exhibition of different natural frequencies during its life cycle. Osteoblast is modeled as a frustum of a sphere, considering it as a continuum model. The three prominent parts of an osteoblast, i.e., membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus are considered with reported material properties. Lifespan of an active osteoblast during bone remodeling cycle is considered as 90 days and progressive osteoblast stages are analysed using Ansys. First ten natural frequencies and mode shapes are extracted for nine stages and reported. It is observed that the natural frequencies of a micron sized osteoblast are in the range of kHz. A mathematical relation for the lifespan of an active osteoblast is obtained using curve fitting for fundamental natural frequencies. The natural frequency for exciting an active osteoblast on each particular day during its lifespan can be derived from the relation. This relation can serve as a guiding tool in bioengineering for in vitro bone cell culturing. Results also throw light on the excitation frequency and natural frequency of an osteoblast for proper analysis purpose. The different modes of vibration of osteoblast is identified and reported

Static analysis of dynamic servo tool rest considering the influence of precision error

    Get PDF
The analysis of the reliability of dynamic servo tool rest using traditional methods is inaccurate because the influences of the accuracy of gear machining and assembly are not considered. In this study, a static analysis method for dynamic servo tool rest is conducted considering the influence of accuracy error. Firstly, the working principle of tool rest is analysed, and its working process is divided into two actions, namely, initial positioning and locking. Secondly, the error sources of dynamic servo tool rest are investigated, and the transmission angle error is divided into two kinds, namely, assembly error of shafting and machining error of gear. The static analysis of tool rest is performed by considering the influence of the transmission error of the tool rest. Results show that the assembly, machining and locking forces of the fixed tooth disc of the dynamic servo tool rest have important effects

Safety evaluation method of bridge plate rubber bearing based on SVM

    Get PDF
In order to comprehensively evaluate the working state and safety performance of the bridge plate rubber bearing (PRB), the basic principle and method of SVM in machine learning theory (Support Vector Machine) was introduced in this paper. Firstly, the performance indices (such as the average compression stress, tangent value of the shear angle and the rotation angle of the PRB) were analyzed and calculated through its finite element model considering the different working conditions (axial compression, shear deformation and the rotation deformation of the PRB). Subsequently, considering the relevant indices affecting the safety performance of the PRB, the Pearson Correlation Coefficients (PCC) were calculated by SVM method for assessing the internal correlation of the performance indices of the PRB for different cases, respectively. The threshold values of the influential factors for different cases considering the PCC and the weight coefficient were obtained for grading the working state of the PRB as five levels. Moreover, in order to verify the validity and suitability of the evaluation of the working state of the plate rubber bearing by the SVM method, three apparent indices for grading the performance level of the PRB such as the crack, the undistributed spalling deformation and the dislocation of the PRB were analyzed and compared with the qualitative descriptions and the quantitative values. Finally, the corresponding threshold values for grading the performance levels of the PRB working states were proposed. It was shown that the SVM based evaluation method for the PRB is feasible and convenient, especially for the bridges with real-time monitoring devices to get the response data of the PRB

Damage detection in sluice hoist beams subject to excitation at resonance frequency band based on local primary frequency

    Get PDF
Cracks of sluice hoist beams due to the load and aging of the material threaten the safety of sluice structural system. As the one of the main methods of damage detection, the non-destructive detection method based on natural frequency is still insensitive to local damage. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for hoist beams damage detection driven by resonance frequency band based on local primary frequency in the local mode. Firstly, the possibility of damage detection based on local primary frequency is discussed and the procedure of determining resonance frequency band is explained. Then the damage identification index based on the change ratio of local primary frequency is provided. Finally, numerical results demonstrate the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed method can provide reference for damage detection of hoist beams and health monitoring of sluice structural system

Multi-body dynamic simulation and vibration transmission characteristics of dual-rotor system for aeroengine with rubbing coupling faults

    Get PDF
In this paper, a dual-rotor system multi-body dynamic model with rubbing coupling faults is established for practical aero-engine. In the model, the rubbing fault simulation method is introduced, the coupling effect between the internal and external rotor is considered. The numerical simulations of rotor vibration are accomplished by the utilization of multi-body dynamic platform, where the simulation model consists of discs unbalances and local rub-impact between discs and casing shells. The time-domain responses, the frequency spectra and the shaft-center trajectories of dual-rotor with different unbalance and different rubbing positions are obtained. The vibration and its transmission characteristics of the inner and outer rotors are calculated. Finally, the simulation results are compared with the measured vibration of a dual rotor tester with rubbing fault. The simulation results are consistent with the measured results, which confirms the feasibility of the established model and the multi-body dynamics simulation method in this paper. The application of multi-body dynamics simulation method in aero-engine can deepen the understanding of the internal operation nature and laws of aero-engine, reduce the repetition of physical tests, greatly improve the efficiency and quality of development, accelerate the research and manufacture process

A multi-fault diagnosis method for piston pump in construction machinery based on information fusion and PSO-SVM

    Get PDF
Piston pumps are key components in construction machinery, the failure of which may cause long delay of the construction work and even lead to serious accident. Because construction machines are exposed to poor working conditions, multiple faults of piston pumps are most likely to occur simultaneously. When multiple faults occur together, it is difficult to detect. A multi-fault diagnosis method for piston pump based on information fusion and PSO-SVM is proposed in this thesis. Information fusion is used as fault feature extraction and PSO-SVM is applied as the fault mode classifier. According to the method, vibration signal and pressure signal of piston pump in normal state, single fault state and multi-fault state are collected at first. Then the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is used to decompose vibration signals into different frequency band and energy features are extracted. These energy features extracted from vibration signals and time-domain features extracted from pressure signal are information fused at the feature layer and constitute the eigenvectors. Finally, these eigenvectors are put into support vector machine (SVM) and the working conditions of piston pump were classified. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is applied to optimize two parameters of SVM. The experimental results show that the recognition accuracy of the normal state, three single failure modes and multi-fault modes are 98.3 %, 97.6 % and 94 % respectively. These recognition accuracies are higher than which using vibration signal or pressure signal alone. So, the proposed method can not only identify the single fault, but also effectively identify the multi-fault of piston pump

Controlled cascading waterfall technology of crushing raw materials on the value of its current strongholds

    Get PDF
The results of laboratory studies of innovative technology for grinding raw materials are presented. Grinding technology is one of the most energy-intensive industries in the industry. The obtained data confirm the possibility of obtaining breakthrough technical and economic indicators in the implementation of the proposed innovative technology of grinding raw materials in ball mills. The latter is achieved by maintaining in them the optimal trajectories of intra mill loading on the basis of the use of a controlled cascade-waterfall grinding mode, depending on the constantly changing physical and mechanical properties (grind ability, strength) of the ground product. At the same time, the mill effectively implements the most efficient grinding regimes (blow, abrasion, crushing), depending on the current strength of the crushed raw materials. Tests have shown the possibility of reducing the specific energy consumption depending on the strength of the crushed material by 31-44 % with a simultaneous increase in the performance of the mill for raw materials of various strength classes by 22-57 %. For the industrial tests of the proposed technology, two systems of automatic control of the strength of the comminuted material in the mill have been developed
