The discriminant statistic based on MPE-MWPE relationship and non-uniform embedding

    Get PDF
The slope fitting line between MPE (multi-scale permutation entropy) and MWPE (multi-scale weighted permutation entropy) is recently proposed as a discriminant statistic for testing the nonlinearity of a time series. The main objective of this paper is to demonstrate that the selection of the optimal parameters of the non-uniform embedding is essential for the proposed discriminant statistic. In particular, the presented case studies indicate that the modified discriminant statistic based on non-uniform embedding can detect differences between such time series which remain indistinguishable if the original approach is used

Skull base flexion and its influence on chewing

    Get PDF
Skull base asymmetries can occur in the intrauterine period, manifesting from birth as craniofacial asymmetries and should be investigated both in the maxilla and mandible and in the craniofacial region, as they are related to the base of the skull. The objective of this study was to explain that treatment using Craniofacial Biodynamics (CFBD) enables symmetrical craniofacial growth, being recommended from three to six years of age, when the processes of skull base remodeling cease. This study was based on exploratory bibliographic research, aiming at a better understanding of the concepts presented in this therapeutic approach, to verify the influence that such concepts exert on treatment through CFBD. It was evidenced in this research that these asymmetries may be corrected, or even minimized through the CFBD, which relates the ontogenetic development of the skull base with orofacial development

Three-dimensional numerical simulation of multi-physical coupled environment during electromagnetic propulsion

    Get PDF
Electromagnetic propulsion technology is a new propulsion technology which uses electromagnetic force to push objects into high or ultra-high speed. However, during propulsion, the armature and launch load are affected by harsh multi-physics environment. The coupled effect was often ignored or over idealized in previous numerical simulations, which leads to large errors between simulation and experiment. In this paper, a three-dimensional multi-physics coupling environment simulation model is established. The distribution of electromagnetic field, structure field and temperature field in armature from static to high speed are effectively calculated. Moreover, the coupled effect between physical fields and the influence of key parameters on the simulation results are revealed. In conclusion, this model can reproduce the physical field distribution of armature and rail during electromagnetic propulsion. The time-varying resistance and inductance and the velocity skin effect (VSE) are the key parameters affecting armature movement. This method reveals a feasible path for the simplification of multi-physical model and the mitigation of extreme environment

Contribution of magnetic resonance imaging in the biomechanical interpretation of the temporomandibular joint. Clinical case report

    Get PDF
X-rays and tomography, in their different modalities, are used as auxiliary diagnostic elements in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction, both in static and dynamic situations; however, because they only allow the observation of bone structures, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the ideal method to analyze, among other structures, the articular disc. Among the internal disorders of the TMJ are the abnormal postural relationships between the disc, mandibular head, fossa and articular tubercle, which can even lead to a musculoskeletal condition causing noise, pain and functional limitation. The clinical evaluation of temporomandibular dysfunctions is complex, especially in asymptomatic patients; the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (RDC/TMD), place these entities within the AXIS I protocol, considering that the image is not strictly necessary. However, analyzing the disc situation statically and dynamically, with its surroundings, allows considering the loads that generate dysfunction, leading to the correct diagnosis, and selection of the best treatment. A clinical case is presented, an asymptomatic patient, without functional limitation, who reported a history of occasional mouth opening locking upon awakening. MRI was indicated, finding an abnormal position of the disc, in a static and dynamic situation; finding anterior displacement of the disc in the right and left TMJ in closed mouth position, dynamically anterior displacement without recapture in the right TMJ and with recapture in the left TMJ; Treatment was performed with Jaw Functional Orthopedics (JFO), obtaining changes in the dynamic disc-mandibular head relationship, anterior displacement with recapture of the right TMJ and total recapture of the left TMJ

The longitudinal vibration characteristics and parametric analysis of a ship thrust bearing integrated with internal disc springs

    Get PDF
To reduce the transmission of shafting longitudinal vibration in surface ships, a design of thrust bearing integrated with internal disc springs is proposed and the longitudinal vibration characteristics of the shafting are studied. According to the structural characteristics of thrust bearing and the deformation characteristics of disc springs, the specific size and combination forms of disc springs in the thrust bearing are designed, and the effective disc springs schemes are achieved according to the static and dynamic design requirements. With the integration of the disc springs into the thrust bearing, the peak of longitudinal displacement response at the base of thrust bearing can be reduced by 10 dB by two schemes of disc springs. The proposed design can effectively suppress the transmission of shaft longitudinal vibration to the hull, which has engineering significance for the longitudinal vibration control of the shafting of the surface ship

Simulation and experimental analysis of tip response of tapping mode atomic force microscope

    Get PDF
In this study, the vertical deflection responses of tapping mode atomic force microscope (TM-AFM) micro-cantilever tip are obtained by simulation and experiment. The results show that, under the blocking of the sample on one side, the steady-state response of the tip is still a sinusoidal form almost symmetrical about the equilibrium position. Furthermore, from the perspective of energy dissipation of the micro-cantilever system, the phases of two surfaces with different properties are simulated under different background dissipation. The result shows that eliminating partial background dissipation can increase the phase contrast between the two surfaces. These results are of significance for understanding the tip response and phase optimization in TM-AFM

Dynamical characteristics and vibration behavior of the novel composite dry separator

    Get PDF
At present, the composite dry separation technology is a successful technology in coal gangue discharge. In this paper, the mechanical structure of the novel composite dry separator (NCDS) was revealed, and the dynamic characteristics and vibration behaviors of the separator were deeply discussed by combining theoretical modeling and experimental testing methods. The dynamic mechanics mathematical model of the NCDS was established. The dynamic experiment of the separator was carried out by using the vibration testing system to reveal the space-time characteristics of the NCDS and compared with the theoretical results. The results show that the error between experimental data and theoretical data is less than 6.78 %. This work should be useful for optimal design and efficient operation of the composite dry separator

Effect of the temperature increase in oil-immersed electric reactor on the stress loss of the fastening rods of core limb

    Get PDF
The noise and vibration of large oil-immersed reactor is usually controlled and reduced by using high-strength pretensioned steel rods to fasten iron cores. But the effect of uneven temperature increase in the reactor on the pretension relaxation of steel rods is rarely discussed in previous literatures. A combined fastening device of high-strength steel rod and disc spring is designed to conduct temperature experiment in this paper. And three-dimensional (3D) finite element model is developed to reproduce the experiment process. After the numerical simulation method is verified, finite element analysis of a real BKD-6700/20 oil-immersed reactor is performed. The prestress loss proportion of the high-strength pretensioned steel rods in the oil-immersed reactor under practical operating state is 17.91 % owing to its uneven temperature rise, which can result in significantly weakening of its vibration and noise reduction function

Controlling isolation system of initial combustion engines

    Get PDF
To evaluate the effect of the engine vibration on the vehicle's ride comfort and improve the vehicle's ride comfort, three types of engine’s isolation systems including the traditional rubber mount (TRM), hydraulic mount (HM), and semi-active HM controlled by the PID control (SHM) are proposed. A dynamic model of the inline 4-cylinder engine is established to determine the excitation force of the engine. By the combination of the random excitation of the vehicle floor affecting the engine isolation system, the isolating performance of the TRM, HM, and HM is then simulated and evaluated on isolating the engine vibration and improving the vehicle’s ride comfort. Both the root mean square (RMS) values of the engine acceleration response (aRMSe) and isolation force (FRMS) of engine isolation systems are given as the objective functions. The research results show that the engine vibration combined with the excitation of the road surface roughness significantly affects the vehicle’s ride comfort. By using the SHM, both the engine acceleration and isolation force are significantly reduced in comparison with the TRM. Especially, the values of the aRMSe and FRMS are remarkably decreased by 9.32 % and 9.69 % in comparison with the TRM. Thus, to improve the vehicle's ride comfort and reduce the effect of the engine's vibration on the ride comfort, the engine isolation system used by the TRM needs to be replaced by using the SHM

Nonlinear dynamic analysis and defect detection of gears

    Get PDF
In the current work, the nonlinear dynamic behavior of an eight degrees of freedom gear system is investigated. Tooth crack is introduced into the model. The main sources of excitation are the time varying mesh stiffness (TVMS), time varying mesh damping, backlash and friction inter teeth. By using the potential energy method applied into the cantilevered beam, the TVMS is calculated. The backlash is considered as a dead zone. The effect of backlash, friction and tooth crack on the vibration frequencies is highlighted. The crack detection is based on the time-frequency analysis
