Methods and processes that must be followed are examined and streamlined, starting from the point of client contact, and ending with establishment of a pilot production line. This study provides strategies to help technicians and engineers create excellent product designs. Though most of the concepts and methods it will produce are anticipated to be applicable to the design of all types of goods, its primary focus is on the engineering-related aspects of product design. The formulation of problems and the conceptual and embodiment phases of design are the main topics of this work. It will support designers in SMEs with problem identification, explanation, and generation and assessment of solutions. To understand their approach and issues, a thorough search in this field is conducted, along with interviews with multiple SMEs. Additionally, to ascertain the SMEs’ network architecture and how their technical employees interact inside these organizations in a way that supports the creation of new products. This will demonstrate these SMEs' advantages or strengthen their creative positions in the face of global competition

CFD analysis of model rocket using the VDI 2206 approach

    Get PDF
A model rocket system serves as an excellent example of a mechatronic system, integrating mechanical, electrical, and control components. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) plays a critical role in mechatronic system design by enabling the analysis and optimization of fluid interactions within these integrated systems. In rocket design, the accurate assessment of aerodynamic forces – thrust, weight, drag, and lift – is essential for optimizing performance. CFD analysis is employed to determine the drag coefficient (Cd) and lift coefficient (Cl), both of which contribute to improving the rocket's aerodynamic efficiency. CFD is a powerful tool for evaluating key aerodynamic parameters such as velocity, pressure, and temperature while also identifying and mitigating design flaws to enhance overall performance. This study examines the model rocket system from a mechatronic system design perspective, evaluating three different mesh structures in two- and three-dimensional CFD simulations to determine the most suitable configuration. The accuracy of the mesh depends on factors such as element size, quality metrics (skewness, orthogonal quality), and first-layer thickness. A well-refined mesh that adheres to these criteria significantly enhances the reliability of the simulation results, ensuring more precise aerodynamic analysis and performance optimization. The analysis results obtained in this study indicate that the rocket’s nose cone and the area around the wings are subjected to the highest forces, and that mechanical and structural improvements are needed in these areas

Multi-parameter inversion of concrete face rockfill dam using wild horse optimizer and optimal polynomial chaos kriging

    Get PDF
Structural parameter inversion is essential for monitoring and assessing the risks of concrete face rockfill dams. Current parameter inversion techniques are, however, often overly complex, computationally demanding, and inefficient, especially when the dam is simulated with a 3D nonlinear finite element method. This study proposes a novel approach combining the Wild Horse Optimizer with Optimal Polynomial Chaos Kriging (WHO_OPCK) to tackle these issues. The method benefits from the low computational cost of optimal polynomial chaos kriging and the fast convergence of the wild horse optimizer. By incorporating statistical uncertainty in input parameters, the method successfully inverts four key constitutive parameters φ, Kb, K, and Rf based on displacement data from a complex dam. The approach proves practical and cost-effective in real engineering applications and has culminated in the development of specialized software that streamlines this structural parameter inversion process. Sensitivity analysis using Sobol’ indices further highlights the importance of each parameter at a low computational cost. The study highlights two key advantages of WHO_OPCK: (i) Unlike traditional methods that struggle with complex dams, WHO_OPCK significantly reduces computational costs and handles parameter determination efficiently. (ii) Compared to other surrogate model combinations with WHO, the proposed WHO_OPCK method offers superior accuracy and efficiency. This method establishes a solid foundation for multi-parameter inversion in concrete face rockfill dams

Improved cubature Kalman filter for vehicle state estimation and measurement

    Get PDF
The accurate estimation of vehicle state parameters has a significant impact on the active safety system of automobiles. Accurately obtaining vehicle operating parameters is the foundation and prerequisite for active safety control of vehicles. In response to the limited estimation accuracy of the traditional CKF method, the CKF was extended to fifth-order according to the third-order sphere-radius cubature rule, making it have the accuracy of fifth-order Taylor series expansion. At the same time, singular value decomposition was used instead of traditional Cholesky decomposition to form a fifth-order cubature Kalman filter (SVD-FCKF) estimator for singular value decomposition. Then, the SVD-FCKF was validated using the Carsim and Matlab/Simulink joint simulation platform. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method was verified through virtual experiments. The results show that the improved SVD-FCKF estimator can effectively improve the accuracy and stability of vehicle state estimation, with overall estimation performance better than the CKF estimator and has strong adaptability under high and low adhesion coefficient conditions. The research results can provide theoretical support for the active safety research of intelligent vehicles and have practical application value

    Get PDF
The differential spiral bevel gear of Baja off-road vehicle is designed and verified. Based on the competition rules and vehicle transmission parameters, the key geometric parameters of the gear pair are determined, and the three-dimensional model and finite element analysis software are established by UG for static contact analysis and modal analysis. The results show that the maximum contact stress of the tooth surface is 411.4 MPa, and the natural frequency of the gear pair is much higher than the excitation frequency of the system, which can effectively avoid the resonance risk. Through analysis and verification, it meets its application conditions

Data analytics-based model for optimizing cationic retarder and acetic acid in polyacrylic yarn dyeing

    Get PDF
The study aims to develop a model for optimizing the concentration of solution parameters in the dyeing process of polyacrylic yarns. Specifically, the study examines the use of cationic retaiders and acetic acid, which affect the wavelength as an indicator of yarn color aging. By optimizing these parameters, the objective is to improve the color stability and longevity of dyed polyacrylic yarns. The application of Response Surface Methodology (RSM) encompassed two distinct types of data distribution properties: linear and non-linear. The R-squared (R2) value for the non-linear RSM model was 0.96, compared to 0.86 for the linear RSM model. These results indicate that the model formed based on the non-linear RSM offers superior predictive ability in optimizing solution concentration as a parameter in the polyacrylic yarn dyeing process compared to the linear RSM-based model. In addition to providing practical implications for textile practitioners, this study contributes theoretically by emphasizing the effectiveness of statistical methods such as RSM in manufacturing process analysis

Feature extraction of rolling bearing based on adaptive variational multi-harmonic mode extraction

    Get PDF
Variable multi-harmonic mode extraction (VMHME) not only has the advantages of high computational efficiency and extraction accuracy similar to variational mode extraction (VME), but also could extract the multi-harmonic components of periodic narrowband impulse signals in frequency band as wide as possible, making it very suitable for feature extraction in the event of rolling bearing failure. VMHME needs to accurately estimate the fault characteristic frequency of rolling bearing as its prior parameter, and small errors in estimating the fault characteristic frequency will cause significant deviations in the target extraction components. At present, the theoretical fault characteristic frequency of rolling bearings is commonly used as the estimated fault characteristic frequency. However, due to the installation deformation of rolling bearings and the random sliding between the rolling elements and the raceway during operation, it can cause a deviation between the actual fault characteristic frequency and the theoretical fault characteristic frequency. The most scientific and effective method is to enable VMHME to adaptively obtain the fault characteristic frequency based on the characteristics of the analyzed signal itself. Therefore, this paper introduces the envelope harmonic product spectrum (EHPS) theory into VMHME and proposes an adaptive VMHME (AVMHME) method to effectively extract the multi harmonic components of the periodic narrowband impulse signal when rolling bearings fail. Feasibility of the proposed method is verified through simulation and rolling bearing’ early weak fault experiment, and its superiority is also verified through comparative analysis

Bifurcation and chaos analysis of the floating raft vibration isolation system with quasi-zero-stiffness isolators

    Get PDF
This paper presents an investigation into the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of the floating raft isolation system coupled with quasi-zero-stiffness isolators subject to multiple disturbance sources. First, the coupling effects between the excitation source and isolation system are considered. Also, the floating raft isolation model under multiple excitations and its motion equation are deduced, and then the dynamic responses are mainly investigated by using the techniques of time history diagram, spectrum diagram, phase diagram and Poincaré map, and the bifurcation diagram. Finally, the bifurcations of the mechanical isolation system with different parameters are analyzed through numerical methods, especially the effect of center distance and mass ratio. The result predicts that the floating raft shows an alternate phenomenon of periodic motion, quasi-periodic motion, and chaotic motion when the center distance and mass ratio vary. The motion state of the floating raft vibration isolation system is more sensitive to the mass ratio than to the center distance. The horizontal and rotational response of the system becomes very intense in the chaotic state, and the response amplitudes in the horizontal and vertical directions reach the same order of magnitude. Above all, the dynamic characteristics can provide the theoretic supporting for the dynamics, vibration control and its parametric optimization of the floating raft isolation system coupled with quasi-zero-stiffness isolators. This study will lay down the requirements for the engineering design and application of floating raft isolation equipment in large vessel
