Engine remaining useful life prediction based on trajectory similarity
The traditional remaining useful life prediction methods need to study the mechanism failure of equipment and the vibration signals can easily be submerged by the noise in the actual operation, in order to solve these problems, the methods of Trajectory similarity based prediction (TSBP) and condition monitoring based on lubricant information are proposed in this paper. The gradient model of lubricant data information which is processed by principal component analysis (PCA) is used to monitor equipment status. Additionally, degradation trajectory abstraction procedure and similarity evaluation procedure are studied in detail. Finally, the both studies are combined for the research of engine remaining useful life prediction and case study proves the simplicity and effectiveness of this method
Spare support model based on gamma degradation process
Spare parts ordering is very important in the domain of system support based on condition-based maintenance. For a single-unit system with condition monitoring, a joint degradation and spare parts ordering model is established in this paper to achieve the lowest total cost rate as the objective. The degradation process of system is assumed to be followed a gamma process. A decision on optimal spare ordering time by the improved cost rate model based on the proposed degradation model is made. Finally, a case analysis is implemented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model in this paper. Analysis results show that the proposed model can reduce the cost rate effectively
Bearing fault detection of wind turbine using vibration and SPM
Rolling bearings are one of critical components in rotating machines. The importance of monitoring the bearings conditions to prevent the breakdown of system is becoming more and more obvious. Vibration and shock pulse method (SPM) are the two popular methods for detecting the bearings fault. Vibration method and theory have been comprehensively studied. SPM has gained a wide acceptance in industrial applications. But few studies have compared the superiority of the two methods, especially utilizing the industrial data. In order to solve this problem, a gearbox test rig of wind turbine is set up. Vibration device and SPM instrument are used to monitor and acquire the condition data of bearings respectively. Through analyzing the derived frequency spectrum, a conclusion that SPM is superior to vibration when detecting the bearings fault in industrial applications has been derived
Nonlinear filtering and identification algorithms for correlation-extremum dynamic systems with random structure
The problem of adaptive estimation using spatial-time-varying filtering in dynamic systems with random structure is investigated. The proposed approach of the extension of state estimation in the classical stochastic dynamic systems with deterministic structure to the case of signal processing and parameter identification in stochastic systems with random structure or with switching parameters using the correlation-extremum methods and the theory of Markov processes provides the system operation in varying and uncertain external conditions
The effect of accelerometer mass in mechanomyography measurements
Mechanomyography (MMG) signals record and quantify low-frequency lateral oscillations of active skeletal muscles. These oscillations reflect the ‘‘mechanical counterpart’’ of the motor unit activity measured by electromyography (EMG). Accelerometers have been commonly used to measure MMG. However, the accelerometer mass can affect the MMG signal. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationship of the accelerometer mass and the MMG signal. Thirty-two normal volunteers conducted the maximum voluntary contraction of leg extension. MMG signals were obtained from the rectus femoris muscle using an accelerometer. For each subject, the accelerometer mass was varied from 3, 8, 13, 18, 23 and 28 g. The signals were measured for three seconds with a sampling rate of 1kHz. Results showed that the MMG signal amplitude increased as the accelerometer mass increased. However, the median frequency (MF) of the MMG signal decreased with the increased accelerometer mass. When the accelerometer mass increased from 8 g to 13 g, the amplitude of the MMG signal increased the most, and the MF of the MMG signal decreased the most. However, for accelerometers heavier than 13 g, no significant change was observed in both the amplitude and MF. Based on the present study, the mass of the accelerometer is recommended to not exceed 13 g to properly measure MMG signals
Seismic performance evaluation and improvement for damaged reinforcement concrete piers using a fiber steel composite plate
The seismic performance evaluation and retrofit process are very important in damaged bridges. If the result is not appropriate, then retrofit process are required. In this paper, to validate the seismic performance of retrofitted bridge experimentally, an experimental study was conducted to verify the application and efficiency of the jacket retrofit method to ensure seismic performance of damaged reinforcement concrete (RC) bridge piers. A total of 4 RC bridge piers was made and then 3 piers were pre-loaded under the range of service load to be damaged. These piers were retrofitted and repaired using a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), steel plate, and fiber steel composite (FSC) plates. These retrofitted and repaired piers were subjected to monotonic loading. Hysteresis and ultimate behaviors of the 3 RC piers were evaluated and compared with those of 1 non-damaged pier (standard specimen). As a test result, the retrofitted and repaired RC bridge piers applied by the jacket retrofit method were ensured under the targeted displacement ductility and ultimate load. The ultimate load and displacement ductility of the pier retrofitted and repaired by FSC plate were higher than those of other piers by CFRP and steel plates and also the pier by FSC plate showed better energy dissipation capacity than others. Generally, RC bridge pier retrofitted and repaired with the jacket retrofit method has low ductility but it was found that the pier retrofitted and repaired by FSC plate combined with CFRP and steel wire had overcome effectively this disadvantage through ductility evaluation based on the concept of energy numerically. This experiment showed that one could improve the safety margin and targeted ductility by repairing the cracks, spalls, etc. of the damaged RC bridge piers appropriately and then retrofitting them with the high ductile materials. The responses of existing damage bridges are compared with those of retrofitted bridge by jacket method for earthquake of target level, and also seismic performances are evaluated. By the test and analysis results it can be concluded that the proposed seismic retrofit method was found to be valid
Study of fuzzy control for cab’s isolation system of heavy truck
Heavy truck cabin ride comfort is studied, the evaluation method of the root-mean-square (r.m.s) acceleration of the vertical driver’s seat, the cab pitch and roll of heavy truck is presented, the random road roughness model is used for excitation. In this paper, a 3-D dynamic model with 13 DOF is established. Fuzzy logic controller is applied to control the cab’s isolation system of heavy truck, and the program is developed based on Matlab/Simulink software to simulate and calculate the r.m.s acceleration of the vertical driver’s seat, the cab pitch angle and roll angle under different road surface conditions. The obtained results showed that the semi-active cab’s isolation system is compared with the passive cab’s isolation system can reduce vibration and improve heavy truck ride comfort. Especially, on the ISO level B road at vehicle speed of 72 km/h, the r.m.s acceleration of the vertical driver's seat, cab pitch and roll angle are greatly reduced by 36.5 %, 10.8 % and 25 % respectively
Research model robot-hexapod under static and dynamic loads
In the paper the stress-strain state of hexapod robot is considered in order to clarify its dynamical characteristics. Full-size model of hexapod robot is built in the SolidWorks program complex. The state of the robot was analyzed in an extremely dangerous location at static loading. Dynamic analysis was conducted to clarify oscillation of the support unit in the robot’s construction. The results of the survey show that such robot design cannot be used in the environments with the vibrating background below 5 Hz
The NAH based on complex cepstrum method in a closed space
NAH method in non-free sound field reconstruction of the sound source will lead to considerable error. This paper proposes a method to reconstruct the sound source in a closed space. In the closed space, the total sound pressure is the sum of the source radiation pressure and the reflected sound pressure from medium interface. Reflections from medium interface is a convolution noise, rather than additive noise. In order to reconstruct a sound source in the closed space, in this paper we first adopt the complex cepstrum method to separate and radiation pressure and the reflected sound pressure, then filter them to reduction of reflected sound pressure, and then reconstruct the sound source. The simulation results show the correctness and effectiveness of the method
Modeling and analysis of the vibration characteristics of a new type of in-arm hydropneumatic suspension of a tracked vehicle
We investigated the nonlinear elastic characteristic of an in-arm hydropneumatic suspension unit (ISU) as well as the damping characteristic of the controllable vane absorber. Due to the strong nonlinear characteristic of the ISU, simplify is needed to accurately model the vehicle. Based on the theory of multibody dynamics, a virtual prototype of the tracked vehicle was built, which includes the hydraulic system, the multi-dynamics of running gears and a road surface model. The virtual prototype is validated using both a static balancing test and a stiffness characteristics test. By simulating the road impact loading of the tracked vehicle when travelling on a trapezoidal US military road, the changes of the pitch angle and the acceleration of seats and centroid of the tracked vehicle was analyzed for two different damping ratios. We also determined key ride indicators for different speeds. The stiffness and damping characteristics of the ISU were tested in a bench experiment
