Numerical computation for the impact of pantograph angles on the near-field and far-field aerodynamic noises of pantographs
Pantographs are an important part of power supply systems of high-speed trains, whose good working performance is a guarantee for the steady power supply and safety operation of high-speed trains. The aerodynamic drag of pantographs will have negative impacts on the running of high-speed trains. In the meanwhile, the disturbance effect of pantographs on airflow will cause large aerodynamic noises when a high-speed train runs at a high speed. Therefore, this paper conducted a numerical simulation for the flow field and aerodynamic noises of pantographs on the symmetrical plane, compared simulation results with experimental one, verified the correctness of the numerical simulation model, and further studied the impact of pantograph angles on radiation noises. When pantographs were working, cylindrical rods which were vertical to the direction of airflows had a more obvious disturbance effect on airflows and caused a larger range of vortex shedding. Shedding vortexes were mainly distributed at the pantograph head, hinge joints between upper and lower arms, and rear bases. Near-field aerodynamic noises on the longitudinal symmetrical plane of pantographs were distributed at the lower arm, middle hinge joints and bases. The maximum appeared at the middle hinge joints. The intensity of vortexes at the middle hinge joints, lower arms and bases when the pantograph angle was 60° was more than that at other pantograph angles. In this case, the near-field aerodynamic noise of pantographs was more than that of other pantograph angles. In addition, radiation noises of observation points of pantographs in all directions presented an obvious linear relationship. The far-field radiation noise of pantographs was gradually decreased with the increased distance from pantographs. In addition, the far-field radiation noises of pantographs on the same vertical plane had the intensity with the same level
Seismic fragility analysis of continuous bridges with UDCMEJ under the excitation of seismic sequence
Pounding and unseating have been repeatedly observed during severe earthquakes. Residual displacement between adjacent components may have already existed after the mainshock and it will get further destroyed with series of aftershocks. The uniform drift cable-sliding modular expansion joints (UDCMEJ) are constructed by connecting the supporting bars and the fuse boxes with elastic cables avoiding the excessive relative displacement between girders. The seismic analysis of bridges with UDCMEJ under the excitation of seismic sequence is conducted on a continuous beam bridge and a probabilistic assessment is introduced in this study. Conclusions are drawn from comparing fragility curves with and without UDCMEJ. It reveals that the UDCMEJ can avoid pounding between girders and the relative displacement is limited to cables’ free movement. With the contribution of the expansion joints, all of the girders work together and get a balance between displacement and force causing decreased damage probability
Study on determination of borehole drainage radius by gas content method
In order to determine the radius of borehole gas drainage, using five kinds of gas content under different conditions corresponding to the extraction rate were compared according to different drainage objectives, determine the need for gas drainage amount, according to a certain period of time the average single hole gas drainage quantity, calculate the number of drilling in the region need to be arranged, and then get the borehole gas drainage radius. Based on the actual investigation and comparison analysis, the effective radius of borehole gas drainage in certain extraction time is obtained. The results show that the method of gas content determination of drilling drainage radius is feasible
Numerical analysis of spiral curved tube of the solid liquid two phase abrasive flow polishing
In order to solve the problem that the inner surface of heterosexual surface parts is difficult to be machined, a solid-liquid two-phase abrasive flow machining method is proposed. The standard model and the pressure-coupled SIMPLEC algorithm are used. The dynamic characteristics of the dynamic pressure, turbulent kinetic energy and turbulence intensity of the polygonal spiral surface flow channel were obtained by numerical analysis of the solid-liquid two-phase abrasive grain polished polygonal spiral curved pipe under different outlet pressure conditions. The numerical simulation results show that the grinding effect is inversely proportional to the outlet pressure. We can achieve better polishing effect by appropriately reducing the outlet pressure
Faulty bearing features by variational mode decomposition
This paper proposes a hybrid method based on Variational Mode Decomposition method (VDM) for detection of faulty bearing frequencies. The application of this method calls for a determination of the number of relevant frequencies K and a balancing parameter α; these are the key parameters of the VDM method. The operational modal analysis method and correlation coefficients are used respectively to estimate theses required parameters. The proposed method has been applied on experimental bearing signals at their early stages of degradation from 50 µm to 200 µm, as well as at an advanced stage of 2 mm. Results show a good identification of faulty bearing frequencies, which allows for the determination of the degradation severity
Test my product using sine or random?
As you know, in the vibration world, there are quite a few test “types” to which you can expose your product. The major choices are Sine, Random, Classical Shock, Transient Shock, Field Recorded Time History, Sine-on-Random, Random-on-Random and Sine-and- Random-on-Random. Frequently, our customers will request advice on which of these types of test to run on their product, and in particular, how to choose between the two most common test types: sine or random. Their desire is to know which test, sine or random, is best to most quickly pinpoint flaws in their product. If they can only run one test, either sine or random, which should it be? Recently, I received an even more specific request from a customer. This customer (Don) presented both a sine test and a random test and wanted to know, given both a sine test and a random test, how he could determine which is the most severe? Let’s take a look at the two tests and decide how to answer to his question. Here is Don’s question: How would the following specifications compare with regard to amplitude/severity

In conclusion, torsional analysis was carried out
Numerical simulation of the relationship between underwater jets oscillation and shock wave
In order to study the relationship between an underwater shock wave and jet thrust oscillation, a simulation model of underwater jet is established. As per a numerical calculation based on the SST (Shear Stress Transport), and VOF (Volume of Fluid) models, the flow speed of jet gas has been changed with the pressure ratio. When the jet speed becomes supersonic, its corresponding shock structure will occur. When the pressure ratio is small, the shock wave structure in the nozzle is normal, and in case of an increase of the jet speed, the jet is moving from the nozzle inside to the outside. When the pressure ratio reaches a certain number, the shock is out of nozzle, and the nozzle is operating in an over-expansion state, the thrust oscillation amplitude is high. When the pressure ratio is large, and the nozzle is operating in the under-expanded state, then the structure of shock wave is very complex, jet back-attack no longer appears, and the thrust amplitude is rather smaller than the over-expanded one. Two kinds of situations are compared. And the comparison revealed that the highly under-expanded state is more conducive to the stability of the underwater vehicle, which can provide a reference for the corresponding design
Analytical modeling of a thin-walled cylindrical workpiece during the turning process. Stability analysis of a cutting process
The purpose of this work is to develop a mathematical model of the dynamics of turning a thin-walled cylindrical shell. This model uses a finite number of degrees of freedom and takes into account the variability of dynamic compliance. It is then possible to obtain estimates of the boundaries of stability of the continuous cutting process. The model is based on the theory of shells with application of Galerkin’s method in conjunction with the expansion of the displacement field in beam and trigonometric functions. On the basis of the developed model, an algorithm designed for constructing boundaries of stability of turning of the thin-walled cylindrical parts is presented and compared to experimental results. A strategy to define matter removal sequences is proposed
Simplified calculation method for transverse seismic response of aqueducts considering fluid-structure interaction
Aqueduct is the key structure in water conveyance engineering, which may be damaged during earthquake. Although numerous water conveyance designs have been built, the current state of researches on aqueduct aseismic design is inadequate. In this paper, based on the fluid-structure interaction dynamics and response spectra analysis, a simplified analysis method was proposed to evaluate the transverse seismic response of aqueducts, and the simplified calculating results were compared with the results of the nonlinear finite element calculation of fluid-structure interaction and experimental results. The results showed that the simplified analysis method put forward in this paper could be used to evaluate the transverse seismic response of aqueducts. In the condition that the pier height is less than 40 m, the first-order lateral vibration mode of the aqueduct has a higher model contribution rate; the simplified calculation method can achieve extremely high accuracy. The simplified calculation precision decreases as the height increases when the pier height exceeds 40 m
