Numerical modelling of the warping behaviour at the first layer-build plate interface in 3D-printed models produced via the fused deposition modelling process

    Get PDF
The material structure of 3D-models printed via the fused deposition modelling (FDM) technique is mainly affected in the z-direction of the 3D-print as a result of the layer-by-layer approach which tend to exhibit a deformation behavior corresponding to a type of transversely orthotropic material. Moreover, uncontrolled parameters such as printing temperature and printing speed have been reported to adversely affect 3D-print quality leading to undesired effects such as distortion and warpage. The additive manufacturing process is a relatively new field in advanced manufacturing where further research and innovation are required to overcome the limited strength and structural performance observed in presently 3D-printed components. In line with the above, this study proposes the numerical investigation of the warping behavior in PLA (Polylactic acid) - based 3D printed models by considering the finite element method (FEM) software of LS-DYNA. The warping investigation was specifically centered on the cooling cycle prevailing between the layer-by-layer structures. The findings of this study showed that warpage would most likely occur in the thermal process model corresponding to abrupt change in temperature due to a buildup of strain between the bottom most layers of the 3D model and the build plate. The findings of this study, which shed light on the warping behaviour in 3D-models, has direct implications on the final quality of 3D-printed components

Influence of the welding cycle on the parameters of material damageability of the high-strength steel connection with an austenitic seam

    Get PDF
The distribution of macrohardness of the material of a welded joint made of high-strength steel in the vicinity of a weld with an austenitic structure has been studied. The characteristics of the material's homogeneity, technological damageability, and the intensity of its growth have been determined using the LM-hardness method. The obtained characteristics of the material are considered according to the distance from the axis of the weld. It is shown that using the dispersion of important physical and mechanical characteristics to analyze the material homogeneity makes it possible to consider the differences in relation to the base material, structure, and properties of the weld. The method used in the work to assess the material damageability can be used for a welded joint that is heterogeneous in material. The obtained results are applicable in developing the technique of heterogeneous weld joints made of high-strength steels, as well as in the study of existing welded critical structures of long-term operation, in particular, main pipelines

An improved wavelet threshold function denoising method based on IGA optimization

    Get PDF
In single crystal diamond tool grinding, cutting-edge quality is affected by various parameters, with tool vibration playing a crucial role. Due to environmental factors and the complexity of the process, vibration signals are often noisy and non-stationary. This study proposes a denoising method that optimizes the wavelet threshold function using an Improved Genetic Algorithm (IGA). The method introduces a configurable value α in the wavelet threshold function, which is optimized with IGA to improve denoising. MATLAB R2018b simulations show that this approach achieves better denoising, a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and lower mean square error

Bridge crack segmentation and measurement based on SOLOv2 segmentation model

    Get PDF
With the continuous increase of vehicular traffic, the safety caused by bridge crack damage is becoming increasingly prominent. Bridge crack analysis and measurement are of great significance for promoting road traffic safety. However, existing bridge crack image segmentation methods have shortcomings in processing image detail features, resulting in the inability to better measure the actual size of bridge cracks. Therefore, to further optimize the calculation method, a bridge crack image segmentation method based on improved SOLOv2 is designed to achieve more accurate bridge image segmentation. Based on the image segmentation results and combined with the skeleton data extraction method, a bridge crack calculation method is designed. From the results, the segmentation accuracy for crack images was 92.05 % and 93.57 %, respectively. The average mIoU of AM-SOLOv2 method was 0.75, significantly lower than commonly used crack image segmentation methods. In addition, the mIoU value variation amplitude of the AM-SOLOv2 method was relatively smaller. The crack length and width errors were within 0.05 mm and 0.06 mm, significantly lower than the comparison method. It indicates that this method can achieve more accurate crack image segmentation and calculation. This is beneficial for a deeper understanding of the performance degradation and crack damage evolution of bridge structures, thereby improving bridge design and construction technology

Strain modal response and vibration damping optimization of tower for wind power equipment

    Get PDF
The safety of wind power equipment under dynamic load is one of the key factors to ensure sustainable energy recovery. In order to effectively improve the reliability of tower structure, the damage identification of flange bolt fracture based on strain mode was studied, and the vibration control and optimization scheme was proposed and verified. The dynamic response of the tower to wind load was calculated using the theory of Davenport spectrum. Combined with computational fluid dynamics, the dynamic load change law of the tower was obtained. Based on ANSYS Workbench, the modal simulation and analysis of the tower were carried out. Under different bolt damage conditions, the distribution characteristics of the strain modal shape of the tower in the axial and radial directions were obtained. The vibration damper was applied to the inside of the tower, and the vibration and stress at different positions under wind load were compared and analyzed to verify the specific vibration reduction and optimization effect. The results show that the strain modal shape of the tower cylinder has a significant peak at the damage site, and the peak height is positively correlated with the damage degree, indicating that the strain modal shape is highly sensitive to the damage. In addition, the vibration and maximum stress of the flange and top position of the tower have been effectively reduced by the shock absorber. The average amplitude of tower top can be reduced by 22.5 %, and the peak stress at the bottom flange position can be reduced by about 38 %

    Get PDF
The method of electromagnetic signal modulation recognition based on wavelet transform convolutional neural network is studied to improve the effect of electromagnetic signal modulation recognition. By analyzing the electromagnetic signal modulation model, the original electromagnetic signal is preprocessed by wavelet transform to remove the noise of the original electromagnetic signal. The processed electromagnetic signal is used as the input of convolutional neural network, and the electromagnetic signal feature vector is extracted through the convolution layer of convolutional neural network. By using full connection operation, the advanced feature vector of electromagnetic signal is integrated, and the electromagnetic signal is classified by softmax function, and the electromagnetic signal modulation recognition result is output, thus realizing the electromagnetic signal modulation recognition. The experimental results show that when the number of layers of wavelet decomposition is 7 and the wavelet function is Db9, the wavelet transform has the best denoising effect on electromagnetic signal data. At the same time, the network training efficiency of this method is high, and the accuracy of electromagnetic signal modulation recognition is as high as 97.2 %, which improves the effect of electromagnetic signal modulation recognition and is suitable for various types of electromagnetic signal modulation recognition

Effect of welding axial stresses on the strength of a welded pipe joint with a defect

    Get PDF
The use of an integrated approach to determining the static strength of operated main pipelines with surface defects makes it possible to take into account the effect of residual weld stresses in combination with operational loads. In this case, it is important to determine the nature of the welding stress distribution for welded structures made of high-strength steels. Here, there is non-uniformity of stresses concerning magnitude and gradient, which is due to technological methods. A mathematical model of the experimental-calculation method is proposed. Such a model allows describing such stresses. A two-parameter criterion for brittle-tough fracture of a material which takes into account the influence of residual stresses is used. It is shown that the combination of residual stresses and operating loads has a significant effect on the safety factor. At the same time, conditions are possible under which compressive residual stresses have a favourable effect on the static strength of a pipeline with a defect

On the decisional problem based on matrix power function defined over non-commutative group

    Get PDF
In this paper, we perform statistical analysis for the decisional problem which is fundamental for the security of the key exchange protocol based on matrix power function. We have proven previously that the considered decisional problem is NP-complete and hence our proposal could potentially be quantum-safe. However, we did not explore the dependence of the complexity of the considered problem on the security parameters. Here we show that for small matrices certain information could be gained from the distribution of the entries of the public key matrices. On the other hand, we show that as the size of the matrices grows, the public key matrices are indistinguishable from truly random matrices
