Critical discourse analysis speech of Hillary Clinton through the American Election
Get PDFThis paper sheds light on the American election from the side of one candidate its name Hillary Clinton she was candidate for American election in 2016. We chose this candidate because it is a female and also the mind of this candidate will be different from her opponent. Also Clinton is considered as the most effective woman in the American politics. In this paper we will talk about critical discourse analysis and what is meant by critical discourse analysis and how it works and analyses the politician’s discourse. The model used in this paper is Van Dijk’s model of critical discourse analysis. Discourse analysis is the main point of this paper and we will focus on how critical discourse analysis works in politics. The objectives of this paper- (1) what are the ideologies that are used in this discourse; (2) Clinton used her power in a perfect way; (3) Hers is the female speech different from male speech. The result shows that any new admiration first thing do they are want to run the race for the presidency should underestimate the previous leader so Clinton starts expressing her negative rejection to the previous government for some points. The result shows that she shows herself as a great leader and the successful one. She talks about Iran and the fears for attacking Israel and also fears from Hezbollah for striking Israel. Clinton’s speech is not completely different from male speech because they used same the ideology, lexical words and exaggeration

It is comparatively less as compared to the offline courses but while it is beneficial for these students we must also consider the fact that some of these learners might be the first-generation learners and might not have the same resources or opportunities or knowledge as others. Backed with scientific evidences, there is no denying in the fact that mankind’s sustainability will be largely dictated by its catastrophic or soothing effects. To take the harsh realities of climate changes head on, every single species on this very earth should put forward its foot forward. It is here where we, the human race in general, must embrace the glaring truths of the day around us and exercise our democratic rights to make a difference in the physical world we live in. And in this noble sphere of activities, women can’t lag behind others. Women also have the knowledge and understanding of what is required to be acquired to challenge the changing environmental circumstances in order to determine practical solutions. But, in the face of the prevailing social environment, they remain a largely untapped resource due to existing biases, including restricted land rights, financial resources and limited access to decision making due to under representation. In Barbara's Flight Behaviour, Dellarobia, the female protagonist is deprived of the proper knowledge about the climate change which misleads her to interpret the Monarch butterflies as a vision of glory. But, later when she learns the fact, she shows her utmost enthusiasm to carry forward her learning. She even becomes lab assistant of Ovid, a scientist tracking the flight behaviour of monarch butterflies. At the end of the novel, Dellarobia plans to go back to college and move away from the farm along with her children. Get PDFChinua Achebe’s No Longer at Ease perfectly captures the ongoing plight of a colonized nation that is going through massive transitions. Though the character of Obi, Achebe sets out to map the future that Nigeria is headed towards which is dialectically interlocked with the past it has experienced. Extensive work has been done to carve out the literary parallels to and allusions mentioned in the novel. In this article I would like to argue how the character of Obi and his spiritual death allegorizes the fragmentation of the nation as a whole; how his fragmentation also stems from language, both Igbo and English, through which Obi fails to coherently express himself; furthermore, this paper would also try to establish religion's link to the same fragmentation. This article also points to a lacuna which will, hopefully, be filled and takes the research available in this area further

Magic Realism in African Literature: A Study on Selected Works of Ben Okri and Nadine Gordimer
Get PDFThis article examines the evolution of magical realism as a narrative style used by African writers throughout the transition period, and how it became increasingly suited to African literary sensibilities at the time. At the same time, magical realism relies heavily on African oral traditions, serving as a site of convergence for black and white writing under apartheid, as well as exemplifying the synthesis of Eurocentric Western logic and African tradition. This article discusses the possible origins of the proliferation of African texts embracing this narrative mode in the immediate aftermath of apartheid's demise, as well as the possible reasons for the gradual abandonment of magical realist narrative strategy in the post-millennial era, while discussing magic realism in relation to Ben Okri's and Nadine Gordimer's post-apartheid novels. As a consequence of the short cohabitation of the two literary forms in African literary history, African magical realism works will be located at the intersection of celebration and disillusionment literature
Women in Colonial Space: A Study of Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart and Ferdinand Oyono’s Houseboy
Get PDFChinua Achebe and Ferdinand Oyono in their novels, Things Fall Apart and Houseboy, present women in three phases: as people who are sadly oppressed by their male counterparts, people who contribute in their subjugation by accepting the norms placed on them, and as powerful women. Many critics have focused their analysis on the oppression of women without considering the role of women in their own subjugation. Though their assumptions may appear to be right, women in these novels possess a degree of power. This study submits that, women’s suppression comes as a result of indigenous patriarchy and colonial patriarchal custom. The study has as findings that women accept some of the positions given them and even help in their suppression. The ones who try to speak out are either not heard, that is, “speaking in the belly of a beast” or considered in other lights. This study uses the Postcolonial feminist theory for its analysis. The theory is suitable for this study because it presents the forms of marginalization and exclusion of women, and the misrepresentation of their roles. The study concludes that women are active, but their roles are underestimated by their counterparts, and they end up accepting the position given to them
