Applications of Digital Twin in Precision Medicine: A Systematic Review
2025 International Conference on New Trends in Computing Sciences, ICTCS 2025 -- -- Amman -- 208974Digital twin (DT) technology has emerged as a transformative tool in healthcare and precision medicine, enabling personalized care through real-time simulations, predictive modelling, and patient-specific diagnostics. This systematic review analyses 94 peer-reviewed articles from the Scopus database, highlighting the role of machine learning (ML) techniques—such as supervised, unsupervised, and hybrid methods—in advancing DT applications. The study explores the integration of emerging technologies, including blockchain and generative artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance DT functionality and data security. Spanning disciplines such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, and metabolic disorders, the research underscores the interdisciplinary applications of DTs while addressing critical ethical concerns like data privacy, algorithmic bias, and regulatory challenges. Despite limitations, including reliance on a single database and subjective categorization, this review demonstrates the transformative potential of DTs and suggests future research directions in quantum computing integration and patient-centered DT design. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
Rational Drug Use and E-Health Literacy Levels of Inpatients of Internal Medicine Services
Objective: Health professionals can provide opportunities to increase the level of e-health literacy by accessing accurate health information on the internet to improve the attitudes and behaviors of rational drug use in the disease management of individuals with chronic diseases. This study aimed to determine the rational drug use and e-health literacy levels of individuals with chronic diseases. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted at a training and research hospital of a university in Turkey between March and July 2023. Hospitalized in internal medicine services and with at least one chronic disease were included 381 patients in the study. The study data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, and Rational Drug Use Scale, and E-Health Literacy Scale. Results: The average age of the patients was 53.44±16.48?years. Of these patients, 60.1% were women and 19.9% had a diagnosis of endocrine system disease. While the average score of the patients on rational drug use was moderate. their e-health literacy levels were found to be low. A weak levels positive correlation was detected between rational drug use and e-health literacy (r=.106. p=.03). Conclusion: It was concluded that rational drug use among individuals with chronic diseases is moderate and e-health literacy is low. Improving rational drug use and e-health literacy in chronic disease management are important strategies for reducing health expenditures and patient care burden
Measurement of the t(t)over-barH and tH production rates in the H ? b(b)over-bar decay channel using proton-proton collision data at ?s=13 TeV
An analysis of the production of a Higgs boson (H) in association with a top quark-antiquark pair (t (t) over barH) or a single top quark (tH) is presented. The Higgs boson decay into a bottom quark-antiquark pair (H -> b (b) over bar) is targeted, and three different final states of the top quark decays are considered, defined by the number of leptons (electrons or muons) in the event. The analysis utilises proton-proton collision data collected at the CERN LHC with the CMS experiment at root s = 13 TeV in 2016-2018, which correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). The observed t (t) over barH production rate relative to the standard model expectation is 0.33 +/- 0.26 = 0.33 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.21(syst). Additionally, the t (t) over barH production rate is determined in intervals of Higgs boson transverse momentum. An upper limit at 95% confidence level is set on the tH production rate of 14.6 times the standard model prediction, with an expectation of 19.3(-6.0)(+9.2). Finally, constraints are derived on the strength and structure of the coupling between the Higgs boson and the top quark from simultaneous extraction of the t (t) over barH and tH production rates, and the results are combined with those obtained in other Higgs boson decay channels.
Factors affecting theatre attendance: An econometric analysis on the case of Bursa
This study analyzes the socio-economic factors influencing theater attendance in Bursa. Although there are numerous statistical data sources on cultural participation in Turkey, econometric analyses specifically focusing on Bursa—a city distinguished by its cultural heritage and artistic activities—remain limited. In this context, the study is based on survey data collected from 680 individuals who attended performances at state, municipal, and city theaters in Bursa. The questionnaire used in the study consists of 25 questions, primarily aimed at gathering demographic information (such as gender, age, education level, income, employment status, and whether the individual has received arts education) and measuring the frequency of theater attendance. The data were analyzed using the Stata software, and two separate ordered probit regression models were applied. The first model examines attendance at state and municipal theaters during the previous season, while the second model focuses on attendance at private theaters. The selection of independent variables was informed by the existing literature, and several variables commonly used in prior studies were also included in the analysis. The findings may contribute to the development and refinement of theater policies
Vortioxetine modulates Nrf2/HO-1 signaling and antioxidant defense in a cuprizone- induced demyelination model
Aim: To evaluate the effects of vortioxetine on oxidative stress and antioxidant defense responses through the regulation of the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway in a mouse model of cuprizone-induced demyelination, representing experimental Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Method: Twenty-four male C57Bl/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups: control, cuprizone, cuprizone + vortioxetine, and vortioxetine. Demyelination was induced by administering cuprizone (10 mg/kg) via oral gavage every alternate day for a duration of 5 weeks. Vortioxetine (10 mg/kg) was delivered intraperitoneally to the appropriate groups for the same period. Biochemical analyses were conducted to assess nuclear and total Nrf2, HO-1, and total antioxidant status (TAS). Results: Cuprizone treatment led to a significant increase in HO-1 levels compared to the control group while co-administration with vortioxetine significantly reduced HO-1 levels relative to the cuprizone group. Nuclear Nrf2 expression was elevated in the cuprizone group and significantly decreased in the vortioxetine co- treatment group. The nuclear-to-total Nrf2 ratio was significantly lower in the co-treatment group compared to cuprizone group. TAS levels were significantly increased in both the cuprizone and cuprizone + vortioxetine groups relative to control, whereas TAS values in the vortioxetine group were significantly lower when compared to the co-treatment group and the cuprizone group. Conclusions: Vortioxetine effectively modulated the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and reduced oxidative stress in a mouse model of demyelination. These findings suggest the potential of vortioxetine as a therapeutic agent for demyelinating diseases, such as MS
Kent İçi Toplu Taşıma Hatlarının Etkinliğinin Veri Zarflama Analizi ile Değerlendirilmesi
Kent yaşamının önemli unsurlarından biri olan kent içi toplu taşıma, kentlerin gelişmişlik düzeyini belirleyen temel göstergelerinden bir tanesidir. Özellikle büyükşehirlerde yaşanan trafik yoğunluğu, hava kirliliği, gürültü, fazla enerji tüketimi vb. birçok sorunun çözümünde ortak nokta olan kent içi toplu taşıma sektöründe, kaynakların en iyi şekilde kullanılması ve hizmet kalitesinin arttırılması zorunluluk haline gelmektedir. Bununla birlikte, hemen hemen tüm kentlerde kent içi toplu taşıma sistemlerinin bel kemiğini oluşturan otobüs hatlarının etkin şekilde kullanılması oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışmada İzmir kentinde hizmet veren 323 otobüs hattında 2019 Ekim-Aralık dönemi, hafta içi günlerine ait veriler ile Veri Zarflama Analizi (VZA) kullanılarak etkinlik analizi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar, otobüs hatlarının güzergah uzunluğu arttıkça etkinliğinin azaldığını ve kent merkezinde hizmet veren hatların etkinliğinin daha yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışma sonuçları, hizmetlerin iyileştirmesi, yeni yolcular kazanılması ve kaynakların daha iyi kullanılması açısından işletmelere yardımcı olacaktır
Use of epicardial adipose tissue as a marker in cardiac involvement in childhood primary hypertension
Background: Patients diagnosed with hypertension (HT) are at high risk for end-organ damage. With changing living conditions and access to healthcare facilities worldwide, the rate of diagnosis in childhood is increasing. In this study, healthy children were compared with a group of pediatric patients diagnosed with hypertension. Cardiac findings in the hypertensive group were compared at presentation and at six months. We aimed to determine the discriminatory value of epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) measurements as an early imaging marker for cardiac involvement in children with HT compared to healthy children and to determine its prognostic feature for HT treatment response. Methods: Fifty-nine primary hypertension patients and 76 control patients aged 0-18 years were compared. EAT values measured between the healthy group and the patient group and at the beginning of treatment and subsequent follow-ups in the patient group were evaluated with M-mode measurements. Results: There was no difference between the groups in terms of sex, and age. EAT was found to be significantly higher in the patient group than in the healthy group. There was a statistically significant difference between the EAT measurements evaluated before and after treatment in the patient group. Conclusions: Hypertension is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Using EAT measurements as a noninvasive parameter may provide information about early cardiac involvement due to HT. EAT is promising as an imaging marker that can be used in diagnosis and follow-up
Relationship Between Coronary Collateral Circulation and The Presence of Bendopnea in Patients with Ischemic Low Ejection Fraction Heart Failure
Background: Coronary collateral circulation(CCC) is a physiological protective mechanism that deve-lops as a result of critical coronary artery stenosis and ischemia. Bendopnea, shortness of breath upon bending forward, is linked to poor cardiac index, increased pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, and coronary artery disease. This study aims to investigate the relationship between coronary collateral circulation and the presence of bendopnea in patients with ischemic low ejection fraction heart failure. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study screened 1024 patients diagnosed with heart failure with low ejection fraction after coronary angiography between January 2023 and January 2024, and 259 met the inclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria for the study were defined as having stable coronary artery disease and low ejection fraction heart failure (LVEF<40%) Patients were categorized into ben-dopnea+ and bendopnea- groups. Rentrop classification was used as a basis for the evaluation of CCC Results: There were 158 patients (mean age: 74.1±12.9 years, % 66.4 male) in the bendopnea+ group, while there were 101 patients (mean age: 67.2±14.2 years, %70.2 male) in the bendopnea- group. Bendopnea+ patients were older and had a higher number of NYHA class 3-4 individuals(p<0.001). NT-proBNP(p=0.001) and uric acid levels(p=0.001) were significantly higher in the bendopnea+ group. The Gensini score(p=0.001) and poor collateral circulation(p=0.001) were significantly higher in the bendopnea+ group. Systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP) was notably higher in the bendopnea+ group (p=0.001). Regression analyses identified age(OR: 1.355 %95 CI:1.212-1.517 p=0.001), NT-proBNP(OR: 1.252 %95 CI:1.195-1.412 p=0.001), NYHA class 3-4(OR: 1.245 %95 CI:1.195-1.412 p=0.001),, Gensini score(OR: 1.328 %95 CI:1.213-1.515 p=0.001), and poor collateral circulation(OR: 1.318 %95 CI:1.162-1.441 p=0.001) as independent risk factors for bendopnea. Conclusions: The study concludes that insufficient coronary collateral circulation is an independent risk factor for bendopnea in ischemic heart failure patients
