    Assessment of nurses' ethical sensitivity and knowledge concerning artificial intelligence and robotic nursing technologies

    Bu araştırma, hemşirelerin yapay zekâ ve robot hemşire kavramlarına yönelik bilgi düzeylerini ve etik duyarlılıklarını belirlemek amacıyla yarı deneysel tipte yürütülen çalışma, İzmir'in Aliağa ilçesindeki Aliağa Devlet Hastanesi'nde görev yapan 92 hemşire ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Katılımcılara 45 dakikalık bir eğitim sunulmuş, eğitim öncesi ve sonrası olmak üzere Yapay Zekâ Bilgi Testi ve Etik Duyarlılık Ölçeği uygulanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde SPSS 25.0 programı kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya katılan hemşirelerin Yapay Zekâ Bilgi Testi puan ortalamaları eğitim öncesinde 62,30±10,80 iken, eğitim sonrasında 75,78±10,54'e yükselmiş ve bu artış istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur (p0,05).Demografik özelliklere göre incelendiğinde, kadın hemşirelerin eğitim öncesi bilgi puan ortalamaları erkeklere göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur (63,53±9,79 vs 55,42±13,75; p=0,044). Ayrıca, yapay zekâ ve robot hemşirelerin iş yükünü azaltacağı ve mesleğe yarar sağlayacağı görüşünde olan hemşirelerin eğitim öncesi bilgi puanlarının bu görüşe katılmayanlara göre anlamlı derecede daha yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır .(p?0,002). Bu doğrultuda, yapay zekâ ve robot hemşireler konusundaki eğitimlerin süreklilik kazanması ve etik duyarlılığı pekiştirecek içeriklerle zenginleştirilmesi, hemşirelik uygulamalarının insan odaklı doğasını koruyarak teknolojiyle uyumlu hale getirilmesini sağlayacaktır. The research was carried out with 92 nurses working at Aliağa State Hospital in İzmir. Participants were provided with a 45-minute training program, and both the Artificial Intelligence Knowledge Test and the Ethical Sensitivity Scale were administered before and after the training. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0. The mean scores of the AI Knowledge Test increased significantly from 62.30±10.80 before the training to 75.78±10.54 after the training (p0.05).Regarding demographic characteristics, female nurses' pre-training knowledge scores were higher compared to males (63.53±9.79 vs 55.42±13.75; p=0.044). In addition, nurses who believed that AI and robot nurses would reduce workload and benefit the profession had significantly higher pre-training knowledge scores than those who disagreed (all p?0.002). In conclusion, short-term training programs were found to increase nurses' knowledge about AI and robot nurses, while simultaneously leading to a decrease in ethical sensitivity—particularly in the dimensions of privacy and accountability. These findings suggest that such trainings should be continuous and enriched with ethical content to ensure that nursing practice maintains its human-centered nature while adapting to technological advancements.     Resistorless electronically tunable floating memtranstor emulator and its application to chaotic oscillators

    The Memtranstor, recognized as the fourth fundamental memory element after the memristor, memcapacitor, and meminductor, establishes a direct relationship between charge and magnetic flux via nonlinear magnetic interactions. This paper presents a novel electronically tunable and resistorless floating memtranstor emulator, along with its application in a chaotic oscillator circuit. The memtranstor circuit proposed in this paper is implemented using a voltage difference transconductance amplifier (VDTA), a dual output differential voltage current conveyor (DO-DVCC), an analog multiplier, and three grounded capacitors. The design is fully resistorless and offers electronic tunability of its characteristics. To validate the performance and functionality of the proposed circuit, extensive PSPICE simulations were conducted using 0.18 ?m CMOS technology parameters. Various simulations were performed by changing the parameters of the model, including Monte Carlo simulations and compressed hysteresis loops under different transconductance values and frequencies. A memtranstor-based chaotic oscillator is also presented as an example of application and verified through PSPICE simulations.     The use of crista terminalis maximum interdeflection time for right–left determining in atrial flutter patients

    Although surface electrocardiography (ECG) provides important information about the localization of atrial flutter (Afl), in cases where the p wave is unclear, it may not provide enough information about the ablation strategy and the procedure time may be prolonged. This study aimed to investigate the potential utility of crista terminalis double split signals in the differentiation of right- versus left-sided Afl in patients undergoing ablation therapy. In this retrospective study, symptomatic patients with Afl diagnosed by surface ECG and in whom no thrombus was detected by transesophageal echocardiography were enrolled. The decapolar catheter was placed into the crista terminalis and coronary sinus. The two most distant split signals were recorded as ‘maximum interdeflection time’ (MIT) in crista terminalis. The right or left atrium was mapped with 3-D system. 3-D mapping identified 112 patients with right Afl and 32 patients with left Afl. The right atrium was found to be significantly increased in patients with right Afl, whereas the left atrial diameter (LAD) was found to be significantly increased in patients with left Afl. The number of patients with coronary sinus activation sequence from proximal to distal, coronary sinus proximal to distal interval time and MIT were significantly increased in patients with right Afl. When patients with MIT > 80 ms and coronary sinus activation sequence from proximal to distal were taken together, it was found that the distinction between right and left atrial flutter was perfectly distinguished. In conclusion, MIT may serve as a valuable adjunctive parameter for distinguishing right- from left-sided Afl prior to 3-D mapping. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

    Improvement of antibacterial and mechanical properties of chitosan matrix biodegradable polymer coating materials with green synthesized nanosilver obtained from aromatic arugula (Eruca vesicaria)

    This study explores the development of antibacterial and mechanically enhanced nanocomposite films based on biodegradable chitosan (CS) and alginate (ALG) matrices. Initially, four polymer film formulations (CS1, CS2, CS-ALG, and ALG) were prepared and characterized to assess their baseline physical, mechanical, and antimicrobial properties. Among them, CS2 exhibited the highest tensile strength (31.68 MPa), while CS-ALG displayed the greatest elongation (19.68%), although their inherent antibacterial performance was limited. To enhance their functionality, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized through a green method using Eruca vesicaria (arugula) extract and incorporated into the CS2 matrix at different concentrations (1%, 2.5%, and 5%). The resulting CSNP films were comprehensively characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM, FT-IR, EDX, and XRD, which confirmed the formation of well-dispersed, crystalline AgNPs with an average size of 16 nm. The CSNP3 sample (5% AgNPs) demonstrated significant improvement in both antibacterial activity (inhibition zones: 11-15 mm) and mechanical strength (54.6 MPa), while CSNP2 offered an optimal balance between flexibility and antibacterial efficacy. Overall, the results confirm that green synthesized AgNPs significantly improve the structural, mechanical, and biological performance of CS-based films.     Treatment and lifestyle change recommendations by cardiologist for patients attending cardiology outpatient clinics: a TLC study

    Introduction: Just as it is important to recommend lifestyle changes such as exercise, diet and smoking cessation to patients in the low-medium-risk group for protection from cardiovascular diseases, it is also important to identify patients in the high-risk group and reduce cardiovascular risk with lifestyle changes and, when necessary, pharmacological treatment. Aim: This study evaluated the treatment and lifestyle change recommendations given by cardiologists to patients. Material and methods: Our study was shared with cardiologists via e-mail from January 2024 to February 2024, and the surveys were answered online. Our questionnaire, consisting of 30 questions, covers topics related to cardiovascular protection, diet, nutritional habits, lifestyle, and diagnosis and treatment strategies of coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, and dyslipidemia. Results: Of the 104 participants included in the analysis, 37 (35.58%) were female, and 67 (64.42%) were male. The proportion of participants who recommended regular exercise to all of their patients was low at 25 (24.04%). It was determined that 60 (57.69%) participants were recommended to use aspirin in primary prevention in patients with moderate-severe cardiovascular risk. Achieving the target LDL value remains at a very low rate (2.88%). Conclusions: The rate of recommending lifestyle changes, diet and exercise to patients in cardiology outpatient clinics is very low. SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) and angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibitors (ARNI) have become highly regarded drugs in heart failure patients. The rate of achieving the target low-density lipoprotein cholesterol value in patients admitted to the cardiology outpatient clinic remains very low

    Demographics and clinical features of pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis: a single-center study from Western Turkey

    Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a disease that has significant effects on the quality of life of people and exhibits different phenotypic features with different clinical findings. By analyzing the data of pediatric patients, we aimed to reveal the relationship between demographic and laboratory data and clinical features and to gain awareness about allergic rhinitis phenotypes in children. Methods: Demographic data, clinical complaints, physical examination findings, and atopy biomarkers are retrospectively analyzed to assess the impact of aeroallergens on the disease phenotype. Results: In a study of 301 AR patients (median age 11 years; 66.1% male), sneezing (79.1%) was the most common complaint, and pallor of the nasal mucosa was the primary examination finding (83.1%). Persistent symptoms were reported by 62.1%, and 60.5% were polysensitized. Notably, 42.5% had asthma, often associated with concurrent sensitization to mold or animal dander (p ? 0.05). Pollen was the most prevalent allergen (65.8%), with significant increases in sensitization to pollen (p < 0.001) and animal dander (p = 0.003) with age. Patients with pollen sensitization reported more sneezing (p = 0.026) and persistent symptoms (p ? 0.05). Nasal congestion was predominantly seen in house dust mite-sensitized patients (78.4% with concha hypertrophy, p < 0.001). Overall, it was found that 59.7% of monosensitized patients and 63.7% of polysensitized patients reported persistent complaints. Conclusion: This study, conducted in Western Turkey with 301 allergic rhinitis patients, revealed a high prevalence of polysensitization, particularly to pollen and animal dander. Polysensitized patients were older, exhibited higher IgE levels, and more frequently reported sneezing and rhinorrhea. Furthermore, polysensitization was linked to more persistent and severe symptoms, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment strategies for these patients. Our findings highlight the importance of developing individualized and region-specific approaches to enhance the effectiveness of allergic rhinitis management. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

    The effect of oral care with foam swab and toothbrush on oral hygiene in intensive care patients

    Yoğun bakım hastaları çeşitli nedenlerle özbakım gereksinimlerini karşılayamadıkları için ağız hijyenini sağlamada de sağlık personeline bağımlı hale gelmektedir. Ağız bakımı enfeksiyon riskini azaltma ve ağız hijyenini sağlama açısından önemli hemşirelik girişimlerinden biridir. YBÜ'lerde ağız bakım uygulamasına yönelik ortak bir yöntem, uygulanma sıklığı, araç ve solüsyon seçimi bakımından bir standardizasyon bulunmamaktadır. Literatürde diş fırçalarının plak temizliğinde daha etkili olduğu belirtilmektedir ancak klinik uygulamalarda çoğunlukla süngerli çubukların tercih edildiği gözlemlenmektedir. Bu araştırmanın amacı yoğun bakım hastalarına süngerli çubuk ve diş fırçası ile verilen ağız bakımının ağız hijyenine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Bir grup hastaya diş fırçası diğer gruba ise süngerli çubuk ile ağız bakımı uygulanan araştırmanın verileri Aralık 2023 - Aralık 2024 tarihleri arasında bir üniversite hastanesinin 2. Basamak Yoğun Bakım Ünitesinde toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini bu ünitede tedavi gören hastalardan 18 yaş üzerinde olan, oral alımı kapalı olan ya da oral alamayan, kendi ağız bakımını yapamayacak durumda olan 76 hasta oluşturmuştur. Araştırmaya trombositopenisi ve diş eti kanaması olan hastalar dahil edilmemiştir. Hastalar basit rastgele örnekleme yöntemiyle süngerli çubuk ve diş fırçası gruplarına ayrılmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak bireylerin sosyodemografik, hastalık ve klinik özelliklerini belirlemeye yönelik Birey Tanıtım Formu ve ağız değerlendirme ölçeği olarak Eilers tarafından geliştirilen ve araştırmanın yürütüldüğü kliniklerde rutin olarak kullanılan Eilers Oral Değerlendirme Rehberi kullanılmıştır. Analizler IBM SPSS 27 programında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Verilerin tanımlayıcı istatistikleri sayı, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma, medyan, minimum ve maksimum verilmiştir. Çalışmada kullanılan ölçeğin güvenilirlikleri test edilmiştir. Normal dağılım varsayımı Shapiro Wilk testi ile ve varyans homojenliği Levene testi ile kontrol edilmiştir. Uygun testler doğrultusunda parametrik ve non-parametrik analizler yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonuçlarına göre diş fırçası ve süngerli çubuk gruplarında yaş, cinsiyet, tıbbi tanılar, hastanede yatış süreleri, oksijen tedavisi, oral beslenme durumu, diş ve protez varlığı gibi sosyo-demografik ve klinik özellikler açısından anlamlı farklılık bulunmamıştır. Diş fırçası grubunun ön test puan ortalaması 17,89 ± 2,28, son test puanı 12,19 ± 2,55 olarak bulunurken; süngerli çubuk grubunun ön test puanı 17,17 ± 2,16, son test puanı ise 13,95 ± 5,05 olarak belirlenmiştir. Her iki grupta da ağız hijyeninde anlamlı düzeyde iyileşme sağlanmış; ancak diş fırçası grubunda bu iyileşme daha belirgin olmuştur (p<0,05). Özellikle diş eti puanları incelendiğinde, diş fırçası grubunda daha olumlu sonuçlar elde edilmiştir. Literatürdeki diğer çalışmalarla da paralellik gösteren bu bulgular diş fırçası kullanımının ağız hijyenini sağlamada süngerli çubuklara göre daha etkili olduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Sonuç olarak her iki aracın da ağız bakımında etkili olduğunu ancak diş fırçasının özellikle diş eti sağlığı üzerinde daha olumlu etkiler sağladığı görülmektedir. Bu amaçla ağız bakımının standart bir protokol çerçevesinde uygulanmasının önemini destekleyen çalışmalar planlanmalıdırIntensive care patients become dependent on healthcare personnel for maintaining oral hygiene due to their inability to meet self-care needs for various reasons. Oral care is one of the essential nursing interventions, as it plays a critical role in reducing the risk of infection and maintaining oral hygiene. In intensive care units, there is no standardized protocol regarding the method, frequency, tools, or solutions used for oral care practices. While evidence in the literature suggests that toothbrushes are more effective for plaque removal, foam swabs are still predominantly used in clinical settings. This study aims to evaluate the impact of oral care provided using foam swabs and toothbrushes on the oral hygiene status of patients in intensive care units. The data of this study, in which oral care was provided using a toothbrush for one group of patients and a foam swab for the other group, were collected between December 2023 and December 2024 in the Level 2 Intensive Care Unit of a university hospital. The study sample comprised 76 patients aged 18 and above, hospitalized in this unit, who had no oral intake or were unable to consume food orally, and who were not capable of performing oral care independently. Individuals diagnosed with thrombocytopenia and those presenting with gingival bleeding were not included in the study. Using a simple random sampling method, patients were randomly allocated to either the foam swab group or the toothbrush group. The data collection instruments included the Individual Identification Form, which captured participants' sociodemographic, disease, and clinical characteristics, and the Eilers Oral Assessment Guide, developed by Eilers and routinely employed as an oral evaluation tool in the clinics where the study took place. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics software, version 27. Descriptive statistics were reported using frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, medians, as well as minimum and maximum values. The internal consistency and reliability of the scale employed in the study were evaluated. The assumption of normality was assessed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, and homogeneity of variance was evaluated with Levene's test. Appropriate parametric and non-parametric statistical tests were applied based on the data characteristics. The findings of the study revealed no statistically significant differences between the toothbrush and foam swab groups regarding sociodemographic and clinical variables, including age, sex, medical diagnoses, duration of hospitalization, oxygen therapy, oral feeding status, and the presence of natural teeth or prostheses. The toothbrush group demonstrated a mean pretest score of 17.89 ± 2.28 and a posttest score of 12.19 ± 2.55, while the foam swab group's mean pretest and posttest scores were 17.17 ± 2.16 and 13.95 ± 5.05, respectively. Both groups demonstrated statistically significant improvements in oral hygiene, with the toothbrush group exhibiting a more marked enhancement (p < 0.05). Particularly in the evaluation of gingival scores, the toothbrush group demonstrated more positive outcomes. These results, aligning with existing literature, demonstrate that toothbrush use is more effective than foam swabs in ensuring oral hygiene. In conclusion, both tools are effective for oral care; however, the toothbrush appears to have a more positive impact, particularly on gingival health. For this purpose, studies supporting the importance of implementing oral care within a standardized protocol framework should be planned

    Educating Intensive Care Nurses in Pressure Injury Staging by Using Analogy: A Quasi-experimental Study

    OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of training on pressure injury (PI) staging provided to intensive care nurses with two different teaching techniques: a traditional teaching method and the analogy-based technique. METHODSThe sample of this pretest/posttest, quasi-experimental study consisted of 60 intensive care nurses from a university hospital. Using the stratified randomization method, nurses were divided into two groups as traditional (n = 30) and intervention (n = 30) groups. Training on PI staging was given to the traditional group using a traditional teaching technique and to the intervention group using analogy-based teaching. For both groups, the pretest was administered before training, the posttest was administered immediately after the training, and the retention test was administered 4 weeks later. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test, two-way mixed analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTSThe mean pretest score of the intervention group (7.97 +/- 3.25) was significantly lower than the mean pretest score of the traditional group (12.30 +/- 3.16; P < .001). After the training, the mean posttest score of the intervention group (15.27 +/- 2.15) was significantly higher than the mean posttest score of the traditional group (12.43 +/- 2.21; P < .001). Further, the mean retention test score of the intervention group (13.73 +/- 3.69) was significantly higher than the posttest mean score of the traditional group (11.90 +/- 3.03; P = .04). CONCLUSIONSPressure injury staging training with the analogy-based teaching method resulted in significantly better posttest and retention scores compared with the training using a traditional teaching method. The authors recommend the use of analogy-based teaching method for nurse training in the staging of PIs

    Measurement of the double-differential inclusive jet cross section in proton-proton collisions at ?s=5.02 TeV

    The inclusive jet cross section is measured as a function of jet transverse momentum p(T) and rapidity y. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at root s = 5.02 TeV, recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 27.4 pb(-1). The jets are reconstructed with the anti-k(T) algorithm using a distance parameter of R = 0.4, within the rapidity interval |y| < 2, and across the kinematic range 0.06 < p(T)< 1 TeV. The jet cross section is unfolded from detector to particle level using the determined jet response and resolution. The results are compared to predictions of perturbative quantum chromodynamics, calculated at both next-to-leading order and next-to-next-to-leading order.     Günümüzde, yorgunluk kaynaklı kazaların önlenmesi için, sürücü yorgunluğunun tespiti konusunda doğru ve güvenilir sistemlerin geliştirilmesi büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışma, sürücü yorgunluğunu tespit etmek için hem fizyolojik verileri (HRV) hem de aracın CAN-Bus haberleşmesini kullanan hibrit bir sistem önererek literatüre yenilikçi bir katkı sağlamaktadır. Literatürde yer alan hibrit yaklaşımlar ise araç CAN-Bus verilerini simülasyon ortamında elde ederek geliştirilmiştir. Ancak bu çalışma iki farklı veri kaynağını gerçek dünyada birleştirerek daha yüksek doğrulukta tespit sağlamayı ve oluşturulan makine öğrenmesi modeli sonucunda sadece araç sinyalleri ile yorgunluğu tespit etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Yöntem olarak, gerçek sürücülerden çeşitli çevresel ve trafik koşulları altında EKG ve CAN-Bus verileri eş zamanlı olarak toplanmış ve bu veriler makine öğrenimi algoritmalarıyla analiz edilmiştir. Üç sınıflı bir yorgunluk tespit modeli geliştirilmiş olup, bu model sürücüleri düşük, orta ve yüksek yorgunluk seviyelerine ayırmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, modelin %85 doğruluk oranıyla yorgunluk tespitinde başarılı olduğunu göstermiştir.The development of accurate and reliable systems for detecting driver fatigue is critically important to prevent fatigue-related accidents. This study introduces an innovative hybrid system that combines physiological data (HRV) and vehicle CAN-Bus communication to detect driver fatigue, offering a novel contribution to the literature. Unlike existing hybrid approaches, which typically use CAN-Bus data generated in simulation environments, this study integrates real-world data from two distinct sources to achieve higher detection accuracy and aims to identify fatigue solely through vehicle signals using a machine learning model. ECG and CAN-Bus data were simultaneously collected from real drivers under various environmental and traffic conditions, and these datasets were analyzed using machine learning algorithms. A three-class fatigue detection model was developed to classify drivers into low, medium, and high fatigue levels. The results showed that the model achieved an 85% accuracy rate in detecting driver fatigue
