Effect of karaoke training applied with telerehabilitation-based exercise training on health-related outcomes in children with asthma
Although exercise is recommended for children with asthma, inconsistencies in study findings limit the development of standardized exercise prescriptions. This study aimed to investigate the effect of karaoke training applied with telerehabilitation-based exercise training on health-related outcomes in children with asthma. Twenty-eight children with asthma were randomly assigned in equal numbers to a study group (SG) or a control group (CG), with 25 completing 24 individualized online exercise sessions over 8 weeks. In addition, SG performed singing exercises using a karaoke application. The primary outcome was pulmonary function, with secondary outcomes including perception of dyspnea, perception of fatigue, thoracic expansion, respiratory and peripheral muscle function, functional capacity, asthma control, and quality of life. Both groups showed significant improvements in pulmonary functions, respiratory muscle strength, thoracic expansion, functional capacity, asthma control (ACT), and the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire scores (PAQLQ) (p < 0.05). However, SG demonstrated significantly greater improvements in peak expiratory flow, maximal expiratory pressure, dyspnea on exertion, thoracic expansion (axillary and subcostal), 1-min sit-to-stand test, ACT, and PAQLQ (activity limitation, symptoms, total scores) compared to CG (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Telerehabilitation-based exercises have positive effects on health-related outcomes. Ostial Stent Implantation or Crossover Stenting for Ostial LAD Lesions: The Multicenter CROSS-ANATOLIA Registry
Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for isolated ostial left anterior descending artery (LAD) lesions remains technically difficult. Accurate ostial stenting (AOS) aims to prevent involvement of the left main coronary artery (LMCA), while crossover stenting (COS) ensures complete ostial coverage but may increase procedural complexity. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent AOS or COS for ostial LAD disease. From 2014 to 2025, patients who underwent PCI for ostial LAD lesions were retrospectively collected. The primary outcome was major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including cardiac death, target lesion revascularization (TLR), and target vessel myocardial infarction (TVMI). This large-scale multicenter (n = 12) observational study included a total of 1,167 consecutive patients [men: 859 (73.6%), mean age: 61.70 12.73 years] with ostial LAD lesions who underwent PCI; 590 (50.6%) of the cases were revascularized with AOS, and 577 (49.4%) were treated with COS. The incidences of MACE (18.1 vs 9.5%, p <0.001), TVMI (9.2 vs 4.7%, p = 0.003), and clinically driven TLR (10.7 vs 4.2%, p <0.001) were notably higher in the AOS group compared to the COS group. Treatment (AOS) (HR:2.469, p <0.001), chronic kidney disease (HR:1.832, p = 0.003), reduced LVEF (HR:1.016, p = 0.042), SYNTAX score (HR:1.089, p <0.001), lack of intravascular imaging (HR:1.451, p = 0.049), direct stenting (HR:2.171, p = 0.001), stent length (HR:1.036, p = 0.001) were found to be independent predictors of MACE. In conclusion, this nonrandomized study suggests that COS was associated with better long-term MACE, TVMI, and clinically driven TLR rates compared with AOS in patients with ostial LAD disease. Fabrication and Characterization of Novel Porous Bioactive Glass with Enhanced Properties and Biocompatibility for Bone Tissue Engineering
Recently, bioactive glasses have attracted much attention due to their wide-ranging applications and unique properties in tissue engineering. As a novel approach, bioactive glasses containing diatomite, a naturally abundant material, and alumina nanoparticles were synthesized using the sol-gel method. These synthesized nanocomposite materials were utilized to fabricate tissue scaffolds via the polymer sponge replication technique. The thermal and structural properties of the samples taken from the prepared powders were characterized and then the biocompatibility of the prepared tissue scaffolds was examined using L929 fibroblast cell line and their bioactivities were examined using simulated body fluid. Apatite structures, all of which have different morphologies, were formed on the surface of all samples kept in simulated body fluid for 30 days. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analyses revealed the 550-600 cm(-)1 band characteristic of apatite formation in bioactive glasses and peaks at 26 degrees and 32 degrees specific to apatitization. Following the cell culture analysis, the prepared tissue scaffolds exhibited a morphology conducive to cell adhesion, and it was observed that the produced materials did not exhibit any significant toxicity that would hinder their potential use in tissue scaffold applications. Furthermore, the addition of diatomite enhanced the biocompatibility of the material. Postisometric relaxation technique versus pelvic floor relaxation exercise in the treatment of women with dyssynergic defecation: a controlled trial
Aim This study aimed to investigate the effects of post-isometric relaxation (PIR) technique and Pelvic floor relaxation exercises (PFRE) on disease symptoms and compare the methods. Methods 42 females with DD were assigned to the PIR (n = 21) or the PFRE group (n = 21), each receiving 8 sessions treatment. Constipation severity (Constipation Severity Instrument-CSI), pain intensity during and after defecation (Visual Analog Scale-VAS), defecation duration, quality of life (Constipation Quality of Life Questionnaire-PAC-QOL), pelvic floor muscle function (Electromyography-EMG), sexual function (Female Sexual Function Index-FSFI) and the impact of DD on pelvic floor functions (Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire-short form-PFIQ-7) were assessed at baseline, and at the end of weeks 2 and 4. Results Defecation duration, pain intensity during and after defecation, CSI and PAC-QOL scores and pelvic floor relaxation activity (p 0.005). No significant change was found in the satisfaction score in the PIR group and in sexual desire, sexual arousal, lubrication and satisfaction scores in the PFRE group (p > 0.005). FSFI total (p = 0.001), sexual desire (p = 0.005), sexual arousal (p = 0.004), lubrication (p = 0.012), orgasm (p = 0.020), satisfaction (p = 0.042), and pain (p = 0.001) scores increased more in the PIR group than the PFRE group. PFIQ-7 summary (p < 0.001), Colorectal-Anal Impact Questionnaire (p < 0.001) and Pelvic Organ Prolapse Impact Questionnaire (p = 0.002) scores decreased more in the PIR group. Conclusion PIR and PFRE may be effective in managing symptoms and improving quality of life in women with DD, with PIR showing potentially greater benefits
Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Pediatrics Scale Validity and Reliability Study of the Turkish Version
This study aimed to adapt the Attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: Pediatrics (AAIH-P) scale to Turkish culture and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the scale. The data were collected by reaching out to 256 parents via an online data collection platform between September 2024 and November 2024. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin value of the scale was 0.947, and the result of Bartlett's test of Sphericity was significant (X2 = 12594.874 and p < 0.001), indicating that the data were suitable for exploratory factor analysis. The repeated factor analysis revealed that the total variance explained was 63.254%. The correlation coefficient between the two halves was calculated as 0.560 for the overall scale, 0.851 for Factor 1 and 0.846 for Factor 2. The Cronbach's Alpha value was calculated as 0.965, indicating a high internal consistency. A Review of The Place of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells among Stem Cell Applications in Neurodegenerative Diseases
Treatment of neurodegenerative diseases aims to slow disease progression, alleviate symptoms, and improve life quality. Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) have emerged as a promising treatment for neurodegenerative diseases that can be easily obtained from adipose tissues. Their abundance, accessibility, and potential for multilinear differentiation make them an attractive candidate for regenerative medicine. ADSCs can release neurotrophic factors, modulate neuroinflammation, and potentially differentiate into neurons, giving hope for neuronal repair and replacement. Preclinical studies have shown the efficacy of several neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and spinal cord injuries. ADSC has demonstrated the potential to improve functional results, promote neurogenesis, induce tissue integrity, and reduce neuron loss. Clinical trials are still underway, but evidence of the effectiveness of ADSC in neurodegeneration is still being developed. The first clinical studies focused on safety and feasibility and achieved promising results. Optimizing cell transmission, controlling tumor growth, standardizing treatment protocols and such challenges remain. Current research is aimed at addressing these obstacles and transforming ADSC therapy into a widespread clinical practice. This review focuses on the characteristics, problems, and future approaches of ADSC in the context of neurodegenerative diseases and therapeutic processes. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
Girth and groomed radius of jets recoiling against isolated photons in lead-lead and proton-proton collisions at ?sNN=5.02 TeV
This Letter presents the first measurements of the groomed jet radius R-g and the jet girth g in events with an isolated photon recoiling against a jet in lead-lead (PbPb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at the LHC at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The observables R-g and g provide a quantitative measure of how narrow or broad a jet is. The analysis uses PbPb and pp data samples with integrated luminosities of 1.7 nb(-1) and 301 pb(-1), respectively, collected with the CMS experiment in 2018 and 2017. Events are required to have a photon with transverse momentum p(T)(gamma) > 100 GeV and at least one jet back-to-back in azimuth with respect to the photon and with transverse momentum p(T)(jet) such that p(T)(jet)/p(T)(gamma) > 0.4. The measured R-g and g distributions are unfolded to the particle level, which facilitates the comparison between the PbPb and pp results and with theoretical predictions. It is found that jets with p(T)(jet)/p(T)(gamma) > 0.8, i.e., those that closely balance the photon p(T)(gamma), are narrower in PbPb than in pp collisions. Relaxing the selection to include jets with p(T)(jet)/p(T)(gamma) > 0.4 reduces the narrowing of the angular structure of jets in PbPb relative to the pp reference. The Associations between Mindfulness, Metacognition and HbA1c Levels Among Diabetic Pregnant Patients: a Case Control Study|Asocijacije izme?u svesnosti, metakognicije i nivoa HbA1c me?u trudnicama sa dijabetesom: studija kontrole slu?aja
Pregnancy, due to the diversity of lifestyle changes it leads to, may represent a period characterized by intensified stress. Women of childbearing age are at the highest risk for a number of health difficulties and complications, including glucose abnormalities. Such an occurrence often has a set of complex consequences for both the mother and the newborn. We aimed to examine how mindfulness and metacognition interact with HbA1c levels during pregnancy characterized by Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). One hundred pregnant women with GDM and ninety-eight healthy pregnant women were enrolled in the study. Average blood glucose levels were assessed by HbA1c monitoring. Participants completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), DSM-5 Level 2-Anxiety-Adult measure (DSM-5 Anxiety), Five-Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), and Metacognition Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30). A negative correlation was found between HbA1c and FFMQ “Describing” subtest, while a positive correlation was obtained between HbA1c and MCQ-30 “Negative beliefs about uncontrollability and danger” subtest. Multiple linear regression showed an association between Mindfulness Describing subtest and HbA1c as an outcome variable. Findings imply the association between mindfulness and HbA1c during pregnancy period. Mindfulness cultivation seems to be relevant in emotional and cognitive processes in order to minimize negative stress related effects on well– being during pregnancy. Such approach may be beneficial in promoting treatment compliance among pregnant women with diabetes, but also among women experiencing low prenatal well– being. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
How digital pirates cope with guilt and norms: a study on the mediating role of rationalization techniques
PurposeDigital piracy continues to pose a critical challenge to the media streaming industry, persisting despite the moral complexities and risks it entails. While existing research has shed light on the antecedents of digital piracy and the connection between rationalization and the intent to pirate, the role of different rationalization techniques as mediators in this process is still not well understood. Furthermore, few studies focus directly on the mindset of digital pirates. This study aims to fill this gap by delving into the rationalization strategies used by digital pirates, revealing how these mechanisms help them reconcile their actions with their personal moral standards and manage feelings of guilt.Design/methodology/approachUsing Hayes Macro, the mediating role of seven rationalization techniques between these two variables (i.e. personal norms and guilt) and intention to continue using illegal platforms were was by using two separate parallel mediation analyses. Data were collected from 464 respondents via an online questionnaire.FindingsThe findings of the study reinforce the role of rationalization strategies in digital piracy: each rationalization technique is positively associated with the intention to continue using illegal platforms. The most intriguing aspect of the study highlights three specific techniques - appealing to higher loyalties, condemning the condemners and denial of injury - as key mediators. These techniques bridge the gap between personal norms and feelings of guilt and the intention to continue using illegal platforms, emphasizing their strong influence in legitimizing digital piracy behavior.Practical implicationsThe insights gained from this study offer invaluable guidance for businesses, regulators and academics alike. These findings can inform the development of sophisticated anti-piracy campaigns, innovative consumer education programs and heightened awareness initiatives. Additionally, they can shape the design of digital platforms to discourage piracy and craft targeted communication messages that resonate with different consumer segments. By leveraging these strategies, stakeholders can collaboratively combat digital piracy, fostering a more ethical and sustainable digital media environment.Originality/valueThis pioneering study is the first to comprehensively analyze the spectrum of rationalization techniques used by digital pirates, identifying which strategies are most prevalent. Distinct from prior research, this investigation exclusively targets individuals who consume content through illegal digital platforms. By doing so, it delves deeply into the negative thoughts and emotions that, as the rationalization theory suggests, surface following unethical behavior. This focused approach promises to uncover nuanced insights into the cognitive processes that underpin digital piracy
Association between daytime napping and perceived stress levels among university students in Türkiye, Brazil, and Italy: a multicultural study
Stress is a common issue among university students, often affecting their academic performance and overall well-being. Therefore, there is a growing need for low-cost, time-efficient stress management strategies that students can easily adopt. This study aimed to examine the daytime napping habits of university students in T & uuml;rkiye, Brazil, and Italy and to explore their association with perceived stress levels. This descriptive, cross-cultural study was conducted using online surveys, including an Introductory Information Form and the Perceived Stress Scale-14 (PSS-14). A total of 1,237 university students (74.4% female) participated. Data were analyzed using linear regression analyses. Overall, 35.7% reported taking a daytime nap once or twice a week, and 59.5% reported using naps for stress management. Students in Italy had significantly lower perceived stress than those in T & uuml;rkiye and Brazil. In the univariable regression analysis, students who took daytime naps for stress management had higher stress levels than those who did not, and those who never took daytime naps had higher stress levels than those who did so once or twice a week. In the multivariable analysis, students who took daytime naps every day had significantly higher stress levels than those who never took naps. Additionally, belief in the positive effects of daytime naps on stress management was associated with lower stress levels (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that the frequency of daytime naps, their utilization for stress management, and belief in their effectiveness are associated with perceived stress levels. To strengthen these results, future cross-cultural studies should employ randomized controlled trials incorporating objective sleep measures and demographically more homogeneous samples
