FORMULATION OF UNDERGRADUATE TEACHER EDUCATION CORE COMPETENCIES: A HARMONIZATION APPROACH
Get PDFThe expectations for teacher education can sometimes be diverging, which can be addressed through a harmonization approach. This paper is a preliminary analysis that aims to formulate a set of competencies for teacher education by harmonizing different curriculum sources. Using document analysis as a research method, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) teachers competency framework, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) program outcomes, and Department of Education (DepEd) professional standards for teachers were examined. The results showed unique, common, and different teacher expectations. Based on this result, seven core competencies were proposed underscoring content knowledge, learner diversity, learning environment, educational foundations, instructional development, community linkages, and personal and professional development. As part of the initial stage in the rigorous process of curriculum development, the results of this work should further undergo validation in the future
POSITIVE PERSPECTIVES MATTER: ENHANCING POSITIVE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
Get PDFThis paper is an attempt to shed light on positive organizational behavior and the significance of three psychological perspectives in fulfilling positivity in the workplace, namely the attribution theory of motivation and emotion, the Broaden-and-Build theory, and the emotional intelligence theory. The paper is based on the assumption that these three theories help individuals understand the causes and reactions of other human behavior. In organizations, the way people perceive daily responses or interactions affects everyone's judgments and actions. Awareness of self-emotions and appropriate attributions of others' reactions would enhance positive behavior within organizations. Reference to the most relevant literature review is discussed and linked to these three theories as well as the positive impact they create when interrelated with cultural awareness. The main points in each theory are highlighted, followed by a claim that justifies their possible effectiveness in contributing to positive organizational and employee behavior. According to this paper, organizing workshops within the work environment that address positivity theories and their impact on positive behavior will help bridge the gap between individual and organizational cultural values, increase self-awareness and understanding, and boost togetherness, collaboration, and positive attitudes toward others
THE IMPACT OF WORKING FROM HOME ON EMPLOYEE PRODUCTIVITY DURING 21ST CENTURY
Get PDFCompanies are now being forced to shift operations out of the workplace and into their employees' homes while doubts are still being cast if productivity would remain. When working from home, the factors influencing productivity have been put under the spotlight to see if they are significant as times call for work from home arrangements to be the subsequent new norm. The research was conducted to investigate the impact of working from home on employee productivity in the 21st century. The study has thoroughly examined academic papers and theories relevant to the area and settled on using Self-Determination Theory for this research. Self-Determination Theory speaks of the factors that affect an individual's motivation and breaks what drives them into three basic human needs that need to be satisfied to feel motivated. This research's primary data collection method was to use a well-structured questionnaire, and Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 26 was employed. The questionnaire was distributed to several different service industry organizations in Malaysia. The results determined that Autonomy had the highest Correlation and strongest determinant of employee productivity and proved to influence employee productivity alongside competence significantly

No full textThe inclusion of women in conflict resolution and peacebuilding is an important notion that has been well documented. Despite a widespread call for inclusive peacebuilding and progress in some African countries, in Nigeria, women are yet to achieve direct representation in formal peace and policy decision-making processes. The complex nature of conflict in Nigeria makes it imperative to explore all possible solutions to peacebuilding, including women’s potential, which remains largely untapped. This article examined, through a review of the literature, the strategies that women employed to achieve direct representation at the table in formal peace talks in Kenya and South Africa. The conflict situations in the two countries resonate to some extent, with some of the current insurgencies in Nigeria. The strategies of both the Kenyan and South African women were similar. High-profile women in the two countries brought their skillset and competencies to work across women’s groups regardless of social, religious, or political affiliation. They formed strong coalitions and were able to unite to the lobby, dialogue, and push for representation in formal peace talks. They engaged with the government to be included as negotiators and mediators. In Nigeria, there is a need to change patriarchal norms and traditional mindsets that prevent women from representation at the peace table through sensitization. It is also essential to enlighten relevant stakeholders, especially the government, on the importance of leveraging women’s skillset in peacebuilding initiatives

Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to study legal protection for fashion design in Thailand and a comparative Case Study between Intellectual Property Code (Code de la propriété intellectuelle) and the United States Code Title 35 – Patents Act. It is to say that fashion design is considered an industrial design that has been protected as a product design under the patent law and at the same time, it is considered as the work of applied art in accordance with Thai copyright law. The copyright law did not stipulate the explicit fashion design section but it only stipulated the listed protected work as the type of artistic works. Based on my study of fashion design protection in foreign countries, especially France, the law clearly states the protection for fashion design and listed protected works stipulating the type of protected works, and includes clear rules for what action constitutes the infringement. As a result of this strong protection of the law, innovation was created and progression for the fashion design industry was supported. In the United States of America, several ways of fashion design are protectable. Under the patent law, designers can apply for a design that qualifies as a new, unique and ornamental design and shall be eligible for protection under copyright law
TWENTIETH-CENTURY TRAUMAS DEPICTED IN THE MOVIE THE WHITE RIBBON BY MICHAEL HANEKE

The generation brought up in the era of glass screens and familiar with the style instilled by mass media has soaked in with some patterns. Michael Haneke's unusual cinema argues with the popular models of film creation. It allows the viewer to make his interpretations, does not facilitate anything, and makes a distance that is supposed to lead to reflection. Haneke brings to light the darkest corners of the human mind. In The White Ribbon (2009) Haneke depicts the society in a northern German village just before World War I. This cinematic work has an important social and ethical significance for the contemporary viewer. It also cannot be denied a deep psychological dimension. The movie poses questions about the face of post-traumas of the 20th century. Haneke shows that behind huge mechanisms are ordinary people with a specific social entanglement. The author aims to try to search for the genesis of violence and the decline of societies based on the mentioned picture. INTERNAL GOVERNANCE MECHANISMS AND FIRM PERFORMANCE: THE CASE OF VIETNAM
Get PDFGood corporate governance would contribute to the sustainable development of the economy. Better corporate governance is supposed to lead to better corporate performance and expropriation of controlling shareholders is supposed to be prevented. Studies of impacts of corporate governance on organizational performance had started since 1990s. Vietnam is a developing country with an underdeveloped financial market and week regulatory principles. Therefore, an approach of internal mechanism is supposed to be a better way to improve the quality of corporate governance than external mechanisms. Two internal governance mechanisms (IGMs) are examined in the relationship with corporate performance in this study include (1) Ownership structure and (2) Board of Directors. The results shows that largest shareholder, controlled directors and duality have negative impacts on firm performance while family ownership, board of director ownership, institutional ownership and foreign ownership have positive impacts on firm performance. The study makes theoretical and empirical contribution to the understanding for the development of an effective corporate governance framework in Vietnamese market

Get PDFSince the start of his journey in 1275, Marco Polo has been one of the most significant figures to promote cultural exchange between the East and the West throughout history. Instead of discussing the authenticity of Marco Polo’s experiences in China, this essay focuses on finding the reasons that contributed to Marco Polo’s unsuccessful attempts to spread Christianity in China during the Yuan Dynasty by concentrating on “The Travels of Marco Polo” that he wrote. Combining details from this primary source text along with contemporary documents, artwork, and Chinese culture during the Yuan Dynasty, there were many factors that prevented Christianity from spreading. In particular, this essay explores three key factors: the prevalence of Buddhism, the customs of the Chinese people,and the failure in converting emperor Khan to Christianity during the Yuan Dynasty. In conclusion, the convergence of these factors serves as the explanation for the unsuccessful popularization of Christianity during the Yuan Dynasty

No full textThe aim of this paper is twofold: to examine how present-day detective novels reflect Britain’s geographic, social, and linguistic diversities in a way that perhaps no other single genre of fiction does, and to consider how this differs from those works that are generally regarded as the classic examples in this field. Current writing in this category exhibits various characteristics that distinguish these works from older works, and these features are reviewed and possible reasons for the recent diversification considered. However, attention is also paid to the fact that there are, nonetheless, modern works which seem to more closely follow the model of the ‘traditional’ detective story. It is possible that there are two distinct trends involved, which overlap in some areas to complement each other in terms of filling the various niches in the readership of detective fiction. This is essentially an empirical study, based on the author’s extensive reading of detective fiction, both classic and contemporary, over a number of years. Although much of this was originally done as a hobby, personal observation of the extremely wide-ranging nature of the modern British detective novel led to a desire to examine the diversity of the genre in detail
THE IMPACT OF REMITTANCES ON ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOR IN THE PLACE OF ORIGIN
Get PDFThis research is mainly about remittances and the impact of remittances on building entrepreneurship. Remittances (money sent by migrants to their households in their place of origin) can play a significant role not only on household finances but also on the stimulus to local entrepreneurship in the places of origin. Still, the success of these entrepreneurial initiatives depends on the circumstances of different households and key socioeconomic conditions of the places in question. In this article, we aim to investigate which conditions of the households and the places of origin are likely to motivate the investment of remittances in entrepreneur activities. Our main methodology is the literature review, and here we examine various case studies addressing remittances investments in entrepreneurship, aiming to identify common key elements enabling and stimulating entrepreneurship in the cases examined. With this analysis, we aim to learn from the lessons of these case studies and then indicate ways to stimulate a sustainable investment of remittances in entrepreneurship in other contexts. Our main finding is several factors can contribute to setting up the entrepreneurship, namely, business environment; local policies; economic development in the host country; the mindset of remittance receivers and senders; the household’s income; the household’s culture, and kinship relations
