No full textIndonesia, with a predominantly Muslim population, exhibits low levels of financial literacy and Islamic financial literacy, despite a growing interest in Islamic banking. This research focuses on evaluating the financial literacy of young Indonesians and its relationship with Islamic financial literacy policies. The quantitative approach, based on a survey of 70 respondents, reveals that the youth in Indonesia possess moderate financial literacy and Islamic finance knowledge. Government policies, primarily centered around personal learning and online education, demonstrate limited efficacy in improving financial literacy among the youth. The study suggests that the low level of Islamic financial literacy cannot be solely attributed to existing policies, as other external factors play a significant role. The research emphasizes the need for a more comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted influences on the relationship between Islamic financial literacy and societal outcomes in Indonesia

No full textManagers' roles and corresponding obligations in business organizations are well-established. If a conflict in competing obligations arises, then the concerned manager is generally advised to consult and apply rules as they exist in the form of various laws, policies and guidelines in the country, the profession or the industry, and the organization. These three sets of rules are formulated to help explain an organization's work to managers and others so that they may understand and arrive at judgments to act in the given fact-situations appropriately. However, the rule-following of managers, it is argued, ought to be ethically correct for its own sake and for the sake of the ethical environment in the organization. For this purpose, the managers ought to interpret the rules for their correct applications, in fact-situations, instead of just following the rules. They ought to look for a rational interpretation of rules so they do not compromise their managerial responsibilities, as it is a question of understanding not only letters of rules but also the spirit of rules. The argument continues that apart from understanding the reasons for the rational interpretation of rules, there is also a need to assess the ethical justification of rules because, for example, a professional manager may come across a rule regarding gender discrimination or else he may not find any rule regarding unjust dismissal from the job in his organization. Given the above, I argue in the paper that the rule-following of managers in the organization is ethically required to be rooted in their ability to interpret and ethically justify rules rationally

HAVE THE BOYS GONE OVERBOARD? A STUDY TO INVESTIGATE THE ACADEMIC PLIGHT OF PRIMARY SCHOOL BOYS
Get PDFAssessments conducted nationally and internationally have suggested that boys are achieving lower results than their female counterparts in all subjects in school. Historically, boys have performed better than girls academically. However, current research internationally into this situation has indicated that girls are outperforming boys in all subjects [see: Philippines (Fontanos and Ukampo, 2019); South Africa (Mather, 2019); Finland (Lahelma, 2021); Kenya (Muyaka & Malena); Pakistan (Ullah & Ullah, 2021); and Spain: (Sainz, Sole & Fabregues, 2021). Sainz, Sole & Fabregues (2021) state that in countries like Spain, boys are more likely to fail in school than girls, and during the last decade boys show a higher disposition to drop out of school earlier than girls. For instance, in 2019, 21.4% of the learners who dropped out were boys and 13% were girls (MEFP, 2020). In South Africa learners in Grades 3, 6 and 9 wrote the Annual National Assessments (ANA) in Home Language and Maths. The results found that girls performed better than boys in both subjects in all provinces and in all participating grades (DBE, 2013; DBE, 2014). This study sought to investigate the academic crisis of boys and foreground the gender gap in academic performance and was carried out as a desk study. Desk research or secondary research is a research method that involves using already existing data by conducting research through web searches, online platforms, industry reports, or even physical books (Gell, 2020). In this study rigorous research has been conducted using online platforms such as Ebscohost and Sabinet to source relevant, credible, and current research related to phenomenon that is being investigated. It was found that a gender gap in academic performance exists both nationally and internationally, and in all grades and subjects. It was concluded that some research has been conducted into this gender gap. However more research about causes of this underperformance and context-specific strategies that can be implemented to help bridge this gap, especially since the Covid19 lockdown, is needed to help bring the boys back on board
REFLECTING ON PEDAGOGICAL CHALLENGES EXPERIENCED WHEN BIPOC INSTRUCTORS TEACH COURSES FOCUSED ON RACE AND RACIALIZATION
Get PDFExisting research has explored the challenges that University instructors experience when incorporating anti-racist pedagogical strategies in their teaching. However, there is limited exploration of the emotional labor that BIPOC instructors experience when teaching students about the experiences of the populations to which they belong. This presentation extends this research by exploring the experiences of a Black identified and immigrant instructor in a course that explores the experiences of Black immigrants in Canadian cities. The research is based on a self-reflective autoethnography that documents one instructor’s experience with teaching a Black experience course at a Canadian institution. The research shows that strategies such as incorporating projects and course readings that celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of the population under study is one way of dealing with the challenges associated with teaching difficult topics. Additionally, the paper also highlights that vulnerability in the classroom and sharing the difficulties associated with teaching difficult topics can be alleviated by sharing difficulties associated with such instruction
VLOG-BASED EFL TEACHING MODEL FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: IMPACT ON SPEAKING SKILLS AND ENGAGEMENT
Get PDFThis study aims to investigate the efficacy of a vlog-based teaching model in enhancing oral speaking skills and engagement among university students in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) setting. With the digital technologies reshaping educational methodologies, this research integrates vlogs (video blog) into EFL teaching to build a more engaging learning path. The study was conducted over a semester with 30 university EFL learners in China, employing a mixed-methods approach to evaluate the impact of vlog-based learning. Pre-and-post oral speaking tests were administered to assess improvements in students' language proficiency, while questionnaires measured levels of engagement and motivation. Initial findings suggest that the vlog-based teaching model significantly improved students' speaking skills and heightened their engagement in learning English, indicating a promising avenue for digital media integration in language education. This paper contributes to the evolving field of digital media in EFL teaching, offering insights into the potential of vlogs to enrich language learning experiences and outcomes
